2. We believe the bible is the inspired Word of God
in its original language.
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and
is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for
correction, for instruction in righteousness .
(2 Timothy 3:16)
3. Acts 17:10
Then the brethren immediately sent Paul
and Silas away by night to Berea. When they arrived,
they went into the synagogue of the Jews. 11 These
were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica,
in that they received the word with all readiness,
and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether
these things were so. 12 Therefore many of them
believed…
4. Are you able to search the
scriptures to find out if what
you are being told is so?
5. Get Understanding
Proverbs 4:7 Wisdom is the principal thing;
Therefore get wisdom.
And in all your getting, get understanding.
Understanding is mentioned over 150 times
in the Word
6. How do we get understanding?
Psalm 111:10
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of
wisdom; all those who practice it have a good
understanding. His praise endures forever!
Proverbs 9:10
“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of
wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is
understanding.
7. How do we get understanding?
1 Cor. 2:12-13
These things we also speak, not in words which
man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit
teaches, comparing spiritual things with
spiritual. 14 But the natural man does not
receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they
are foolishness to him; nor can he know them,
because they are spiritually discerned.
8. God is a Spirit and He speaks to our spirit
Rom 8:15-16
For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again
to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption
by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”
The Spirit Himself bears witness with
our spirit that we are children of God..
9. How do we know what we are hearing is
true?
John 7:17
Jesus said, “If anyone wills to do His will,
he shall know concerning the doctrine,
whether it is from God or whether I speak
on My own authority.
10. Revelation comes only from God
The Word of God can only be discerned accurately
by revelation from the author.
It cannot be discerned by human reasoning,
academics or intelligence.
It is not a historical document,
it is not an intellectual document,
it is the living Word of God. Heb 4:12
11. Matt 16: 15
He said to them, “But who do you
say that I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered and
said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living
God.” 17 Jesus answered and said to him,
“Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh
and blood has not revealed this to you,
but My Father who is in heaven.
12. Why some people stay void of understanding
(even Christians)
1. Selfish ambition
2. Preconceived notions
3. Idolatry, looking to other sources
4. Infatuated by their own reasonings
5. Pride
6. Hard heart, Mark 8:15-17
7. Unfaithful with money, Luke 16:10
8. Rejecting the Prophets, Matt 13:10, Luke 8:10
9. They repeatedly say, “I don’t understand the bible.”
Prov. 18:21
13. To You (the disciples) it has been given
Matthew 13:10 And the disciples came and said to Him, “Why do You speak to them in parables?”
11 He answered and said to them, “Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries
of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given. 12 For whoever has, to him
more will be given, and he will have abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has will
be taken away from him. 13 Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see,
and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. 14 And in them the prophecy of Isaiah is
fulfilled, which says:
‘Hearing you will hear and shall not understand,
And seeing you will see and not perceive;
15 For the hearts of this people have grown dull.
Their ears are hard of hearing,
And their eyes they have closed,
Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears,
Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn,
So that I should heal them.’
16 But blessed are your eyes for they see, and your ears for they hear; 17 for assuredly,
I say to you that many prophets and righteous men desired to see what you see, and did not see it,
and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.
14. Augustine formulated the axiom,
“The Old Testament is the
New Testament concealed,
the New Testament is the
Old Testament revealed.”
15. Ask God to Reveal His Word to You
Prayer adapted from Eph 1:17-18
Father of glory, give me the spirit of wisdom and

Inheritance in the saints

25. Basic Principles of Bible Interpretation
Scripture Defines Scripture
The primary rule of Biblical interpretation is to interpret scripture by
other scriptures. This means, that by referring to other verses about
the same subject, we can get a more complete picture of that subject.
Context:
Who is speaking
What is the situation
Who is being spoken to
Please Note: Just because Jesus is speaking to the Pharisees, don’t
automatically discount its application to our own lives.
Also just because something is in the bible does not make it truth,
there are things stated by certain people in the bible that are not the
truth of the Word of God.
26. Law of First Mention
Look for the first time the subject was mentioned to
see how it was first defined.
Mouth of 2 or 3 Witnesses
Facts or truth must be established in the mouths of
two or three witnesses. There should be at least two
or three scriptures verifying a doctrine, or principle.
It takes more than one scripture to prove a doctrine,
a point, or a principle.
27. How to use the Strong’s Concordance
Look up any English word in the bible.
1. It gives you every verse containing that English
word.
2. It will give you what Hebrew (Old Testament or
Greek (New Testament) word the English word is
translated from with an assigned number.
3. It gives a definition for every Greek and Hebrew
word in the bible.
