Life Begins on the other side of despair
What is life ?
 Life has different definitions in the eyes of different
peoples.
 For many life is all about love.
 For a few, life is all about religious practices.
 For philosopher like Aristotle life is about happiness
"Happiness is the meaning and the purpose
of life, the whole aim and end of human existence."
Life begins on the other side of despair
What does this line mean ?
 We can understand from the saying that to understand the life
and to live it properly one has to go through a transformation ;
he has to experience various difficulties, problems and even
despair.
 In order to live a true and productive life, it is important that we
should create such a life.
 Creating a life means finding the true purpose of the existence
and then following the same through our actions. Creating
such a life is not a piece of cake; rather it requires great
energy and hard work.
How we can transform our life ?
 The transformation can start from negating what is already
taught to human beings by his surroundings.
 Transformation is a process, and as life happens there are
tons of ups and downs. It’s a journey of discovery – there
are moments on mountaintops and moments in deep
valleys of despair.”
 During this transformation, he may feel despair; and may
experience nothingness.
 The world may look meaningless and purposeless.
 The roads may look dusty and leading to nowhere.
 The trees may look autumn-stricken and the water may be
flowing in a directionless directions.
 The relations may seem absurd and the friends may appear to
be strangers.
The feelings that someone will feel during the transformation of his
life are:
How one feels during transforming his life ?
 However, the important thing is never to get stuck in despair as the life is
on the other side of despair. It is not within it. This despair may prove to be
a necessary evil. It may provide an opportunity to a person to rethink about
his life, to rewrite its script and to rebuild his personality.
 As the great novelist Dostoevski had said,
“Suffering is the origin of consciousness.”
 As we see a lot of examples in our daily life that one who overcomes his
despair and works hard in his life, he ‘s definitely going to be a great man in
his life one day.
Hope and Despair in life by Different Religions
Islam
 Life is full of highs and lows. Without exception, every person
has some challenges or difficulties in their life. These
difficulties can sometimes feel overwhelming to the point
where one sees no way out and despairs.
 Those who lose all hope in life sometimes resort to taking their
own life. And do not kill yourselves. Surely, God is Rahīm
toward you (Qur’ān 4:29). The word raḥma, often
mistranslated as mercy, conveys the meaning of love and
compassion.
 The Qur’ān teaches that one should never lose hope of
despair from God’s raḥma.
The Story of Hazrat Yusuf(A.S)
 Prophet Yusuf (Joseph) was betrayed by his family, kidnapped, sold into slavery, falsely accused of
adultery, and imprisoned. His father Yaqub (Jacob) was full of sorrow but never lost hope despite the
fact that Joseph was gone for decades.
O my sons (said Prophet Jacob)! Go you and enquire about Yusuf (Joseph) and his
brother, and never give up hope of raḥma of Allah. Certainly no one despairs of Allah’s raḥma, except
the people who disbelieve (Qur’ān 12:87).
 In the end, Joseph became the king of Egypt and was reunited with his family.
 Until today people throughout the world read the story of Joseph with awe and inspiration. Had
Joseph known this it would have made all of his difficulties much easier.
Not everyone will be remembered like Joseph, but the lesson is that God ultimately has a plan for each
of us. We do not understand why things happen to us now, but down the line we may look back and
recognize that those challenges were necessary to make us a better person.
Lesson to Learn
 Allah promises us that after every difficulty is relief. We must never lose hope that our
situation will improve.
After a difficulty, Allah will soon grant relief.
Quran 65:7
 Hope is faith in Allah and the hereafter.
So be not of the despairing.
Quran 15:55
Trials and Tribulations in Islam
Christianity
 The Christian life can sometimes feel like a roller coaster ride when
strong hope and faith collide with an unexpected reality.
 When our prayers aren't answered as we desired and our dreams
become shattered, disappointment is the natural result.
The Christian Response to Disappointment:
 Fear, worry, depression, sadness, discouragement, resentment… are
all normal parts of life on Planet Earth. But, for the Christian, We have
hope beyond our circumstances and peace beyond logic. We have
the peace of Jesus! He is in command of it all.
 There is one certainty regarding every trial you will ever face: God is
still in control. You haven’t encountered the one problem He can’t fix.
Seas still part and mountains still crumble at His command.
 Disappointment is too heavy a burden to bear. If we let disappointments pile
up, they lead to discouragement. Too much discouragement leads
to despair. God doesn’t want that for us. In his grace, God asks us to take
our heartaches to him.
Solution of Despair
 The Bible is such an important guidebook that we should immerse
ourselves in it regularly. It's called the Living Word of God because its truths
are constant yet they apply to our changing situations.
 No matter how painful your disappointment may be, God's answer to your
question of "What now, Lord?" always begins with this simple command:
"Trust me. Trust me."
 Your life will begin to change when you start asking God, you’ll still feel angry or
disheartened by disappointments, but you’ll also discover that God is eager to
show you what he wants you to do next. Not only that, but he’ll equip you with
everything you need to do it.
Lesson to Learn
 Seeking God's answer to "What now?" helps us grow in faith. Through experience,
we learn that God is trustworthy. He can take our disappointments and work them
for our good. When that happens, we come to the staggering conclusion that
the all-powerful God of the universe is on our side.
 We live in a world that is filled with despair. The enemy strikes hard
with the spirit of despair.
 The dictionary definition of despair is: the complete loss or absence of
hope, disheartenment, discouragement, desperation, distress,
anguish, depression, misery, defeatism, pessimism, and even suicidal
feelings. This doesn't sound good.
 There is a shocking reality regarding despair and suicide that we
cannot ignore.
 There are 35,000 suicides in America every year, and the suicide rate
is the same among Christians and non-Christians. This is alarming.
But it doesn’t have to be this way. We ask ourselves, “Why is this so,
and what can we do about it?
How can we overcome despair within our own lives as
well as within our families, friends, and co-workers?”
Getting Motivation from others to overcome your despair and to
begin your life from a new turning point
 As all of us face a number of different problems in our lives and most of the time we
give up things and get our life struck with despair.
 As all of us know that life is not a bed of roses where you can find everything easily but
you have to face a number of different problems and have to work hard to transform
our lives.
 There are a number of personalities in this world who overcome their fears and
transformed their lives by woking hard day and night.
Any body can transform his life If he wants to:
Examples from our daily life
 Gold becomes gold after many years of suffering. It has to bear
the extreme temperature and great pressure. It has to go through
various processes to sparkle as it does.
 A seed becomes a tree after going through a long and tiresome
process. It has to bear the different sorts of weather and have to
extract its nutrition from the earth. Only after surviving through
every thick and thin it is able to stand strong as a tree and grow
flowers and fruits.

thought he was just a dud.
 He never spoke for the first three years of his life, and
throughout elementary school, many of his teachers thought
he was lazy and wouldn't make anything of himself.
 He always received good marks, but his head was in the
clouds, conjuring up abstract questions people couldn't
understand.
 But he kept thinking and, well, he eventually developed the
theory of relativity.
 Einstein started teaching himself calculus at 12, and
as a 14-year-old he says he had
"mastered integral and differential calculus
 The twelve-year-old Einstein taught himself algebra
and Euclidean geometry over a single summer.
 Throughout his life, Einstein published hundreds of
books and articles
He published more than 300 scientific papers and 150
non-scientific ones
 On 5 December 2014, universities and archives
announced the release of Einstein's papers, comprising
more than 30,000 unique documents

 Jack Ma -- was born on October 15, 1964, in Hangzhou, located
in the southeastern part of China.
 Without money or connections, the only way Ma could get ahead
was through education. After high school, he applied to go to
college -- but failed the entrance exam twice.
 He finally passed on the third try, going on to attend Hangzhou
Teachers Institute. He graduated in 1988 and started applying to
as many jobs as he could.
 He received more than a dozen rejections -- including from KFC
before being hired as an English teacher. Ma was a natural with
his students and loved his job -- though he only made $12 a
month at a local university.
History
 Ma had no experience with computers or coding, but he was
captivated by the internet when he used it for the first time during a
trip to the US in 1995.
 Ma's first online search was "beer," but he was surprised to find that
no Chinese beers turned up in the results. It was then that he
decided to found an internet company for China.
 He gathered 17 of his friends in his apartment and convinced them
to invest in his vision for an online marketplace he called "Alibaba."
The site allowed exporters to post product listings that customers
could buy directly.
 Soon, the service started to attract members from all over the world.
By October 1999, the company had raised $5 million from Goldman
Sachs and $20 million from Soft Bank, a Japanese telecom company
that also invests in technology companies.
 Alibaba went public September 19, 2014.
"Today what we got is not money. What we got is the
trust from the people," Ma told CNBC.
 But with the passage of time the company's $150-billion IPO was
the largest offering for a US-listed company in the history of the
New York Stock Exchange.
 It also made Ma the richest man in China, with an estimated worth
of $25 billion.
 In March 2013, Alibaba spent a reported $49.7 million on a
Gulfstream G550, mostly for Ma's use.
 Number of employees working in Alibaba are 101,958 ( March
31,2019 )

 Edison's major innovation was the establishment of an
industrial research lab in 1876
 Although the exact number of tries has been debated, ranging from
1,000 to 10,000 attempts, it's safe to say Edison tried and failed a
whole lot before he successfully created his beacon of light.
His response to his repeated failures?
“I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.”
 After his demonstration of the telegraph, Edison was not sure that his
original plan to sell it for $4,000 to $5,000 was right, so he asked
Western Union to make a bid. He was surprised to hear them offer
$10,000 ($221,400 in today's dollars.), which he gratefully accepted.
 In 1878, Edison began working on a system of electrical illumination.

Conclusion
 Today’s world wherein most of the people are lost in hustle and
bustle and in pursuit of the materialistic gains, this is a crying need
that the human beings must discover their meaning of life.
 Every human being has to go through the experience of despair if
he has to discover his true self.
 He must suffer and despair, but has to take a rebirth. He has to be
born as a different human being after what he goes through. This is
the only way human beings can change the world around
themselves; no other way is possible today.
 The personalities that have gone through very critical
circumstances have been able to stand taller as human beings.
 There are always ups and downs in life but it is not a good
thing to lose hope and courage and thinking that I can’t do
this.
 History proves that one who works hard always achieves a lot
in life. So never get your life struck in despair.
“Work hard in silence, let your success be your noise.”

Go you and enquire about Yusuf (Joseph) and his brother, and never give up hope of raḥma of Allah. Certainly no one despairs of Allah’s raḥma, except the people who disbelieve (Qur’ān 12:87).  In the end, Joseph became the king of Egypt and was reunited with his family.  Until today people throughout the world read the story of Joseph with awe and inspiration.
