1. Task 10
Formal proposal.
After carrying out research about what my magazine is going to contain and look like, and also who
it is going to be aimed at, I have come to conclude several things such as the title of the magazine,
why I chose the particular genre and also who the target audience is. I have also thought in advance
about what sort of photographs I shall take to be included in the magazine.
Firstly, the title of my magazine will be ‘IMP’, this stands for individual
music publication. I felt as though this was a suitable name for the
magazine as it really represents the genre of music I have chosen. This
genre being INDIE, which is a form of soft rock, including bands and
artists such as; Oasis, Arctic Monkeys, Jamie T and also The Killers. I
also chose this genre as I enjoy this type of music therefore I feel that I
will enjoy producing a magazine about this particular genre. I also
found it easier to collect data for my focus group and questionnaire as
most people around the 16-25 age range enjoy the genre as well.
My target audience for the magazine is going to be mainly for the 16-25 age range rather than the
25-40 age range. This is because the younger generation seem to enjoy this genre of music rather
than the older people do. Also, everyone who gave positive answers on my questionnaire where all
in the 16-25 age range.
I have come up with several ideas about how the magazine is going to
look. Firstly, on the front cover page I am going I am going to have the
main image based in the middle of the page with cover lines placed
around the image. I will also have the title placed in the top left hand
corner of the page in bold writing to enable it to stand out. I will also
utilise the rule of thirds as it gives the front cover a clear and easy to
read look which people asked for on my questionnaire. The contents page shall be similar as I am
going to divide the page into several sections, once again to give it a clear and easy to read feel. My
main image will be placed in the centre of the page with smaller images below it. This is used to
make to contents page brighter and more interesting. The title ‘Contents’ will be running down the
left hand side of the page to give the magazine its own unique look. Page numbers and information
will be placed at the top of the page so it is the first thing you look at and easy to find.
Finally I will be taking photographs of my friend Jack who is the lead singer of an up and coming
band called the super kings (who my magazine is based around). I shall be trying to make the images
look as rebellious as possible to try and fit in with the style of the band and also the music genre.
