2. In the process of deciding what genre my media product would we thought of looking
statistics too see which was a popular genre in 2016. From our research we found that the
thriller and horror and genre was most popular. For that reason I decided to making my
movie a hybrid genre of thriller and drama because I know it would it would attract a large
target audience but for the same reason the drama aspect would add a sense verisimilitude
which would make it much more relatable. Other factors helped me come to this conclusion
such as the questionnaire that I carried out at the beginning of my research.
In the post production process I thought about the typical conventions of thriller movie and
what I would have to do to incorporate some of these things into the opening sequence such
as making my audience feel uncomfortable and on edge.
I thought using someone of a younger age would make the film more relatable. Not only this
but because youth is time of innocence and when use should be nurtured and found it
sinister thinking that this child in my movie was facing the deathly decisions alone.
Our media product is about a young black boy who covers up death of his drug
abusing mother and inevitably becomes homeless. ‘Numb’ has a strong sense of
verisimilitude and represents the proportion of young people who are homeless
due to the impact of home life, on their living situation. It challenges the Medias’
typical representations of young children in London as it is highlighting the hidden
homeless. However it conforms as it is once again displaying one of the many
problems in black and ethnic minority communities.

3. Before we started planning our movie we researched our genre in depth to make sure that we had the key
conventions. We also found that there was many types of different thriller movies. Some of which focused
on thriller from the start or some which started out innocent but had a sinister twist.
For example: the 2016 movie nerve. In the beginning of the movie you expect it to be a
typical young adult movie but at the end it takes a sinister turn and the characters.
In comparison to the 2016 movie nocturnal animals in which from the start we know it’s a
thriller. based on this I chose to establish my movie as a thriller from the start.
There were many other successful movies in 2016 that gave me ideas as of what I wanted
to base my film on and we also focused on some of the traditional thriller movies.

4. Existing product: Nocturnal animals (2016)
We took inspiration from the colours of this opening title. I think before the movie begins to play this
title sequence automatically is telling the audience that the film is going to be associated with death. By
establishing this at the start I found that It would draw in the audience more than a simple title
sequence . This is a very common feature in thriller movies therefore when we use it our opening
would be conforming to this typical stereotype.
From this scene you can tell that the movie is from a high budget as it uses block
colours on a large scale. However because our movie has a low budget we had to
use natural lighting and familiar scenes. From our research we found that many
physiological thrillers use this same effect if they have a budget. However in lower
budget movies they use low key natural lighting. For this reason we had to use low
key lighting .
Thriller movies always use mise-en scene
To perhaps foreshadow the events that are to come. In this
instance they chose to use the colour red and from the
rest of a film there were many deaths. In the instance our
film challenges this as we only use a low key colour
scheme and failed to put any key props.
