1. I took photos of my neighbor’s old swing set. I thought I would be able to capture emotions of childhood, but that was not the case. There was more of a feeling of nostalgia and almost gloom . Some of the photos I took had a sad feeling because of the state of the swing set. This photo follows the rule of thirds. The focal point is on the broken slats on the bottom left intersection. Because of the emptiness of the play set there is a feeling of loneliness.
2. In this photo I used the rule of leading lines. The viewer follows the row of swings out of the frame. This line also conveys movement. I think the feeling is one of moving on beyond childhood, or growing up.
3. I took this photo because I really like the feel and look of the old wood and nails. I again used a leading line in the photo. For me the texture has a connection to childhood, but because of the state it’s in there is a feeling of sadness connected also. The right side of the photo is framed by the lighter piece of wood and it forces the viewer to look at the row of nails. You would think this would lead out of the frame but the far beam brings your eye back into the photo. (also known as triangulation)
