2. Abstract
The purpose of the study is to explore the role and function of performance
profiling in sports and its application university level players. The investigator
explains the performance profile variables and its application. This would then
allow the coach the ability to evaluate how the players perceive the current
condition of the team. The most fundamentally crucial element of the whole
process is to ensure that the player completing it is totally honest with
themselves and their answers, and not just filling out what they think their
coach wants to see. The selected players from the universities according to their
games namely football, volleyball and basketball both men and women
category. During the time of university coaching camp the players involved the
various test and measurements based on psychology. The questionnaire
covered the various aspects both training and competition strategies along with
the mental toughness. The personal technique, observation and questionnaire
will be adopting for the data collection. The result of the study helpful to players
and coaches because result reveal the actual score of their mental attitude to
the training and competition one way anova used for the statistical evaluation.
3. Psychology
Psyche: Mind
Logos: Knowledge or study
Definition: The scientific study of behavior
and mental processes
Behavior: Overt (i.e., can be directly
observed, as with crying)
Mental Processes: Covert (i.e., cannot be
directly observed, as with remembering)
4. What psychologist do?
Development: Course of human growth and
development
Learning: How and why it occurs in humans and
animals
Personality: Traits, motivations, and individual
differences
Sensation and Perception: How we come to know
the world through our five senses
5. Goal of Psychology
Description of Behaviors: Naming and classifying
various observable, measurable behaviors
Understanding: Being able to state the causes of a
behavior
Prediction: Predicting behavior accurately
Example of counter intuitive studies:
Seminary speech on “good samiratans”
6. Psychology is the scientific study of behavior and mental processes.
Studying Psychology offers practical solutions to everyday problems
Psychologists use the scientific method to make observations
Psychology is a social science which means it is:
Based on findings that are subjected to careful scrutiny
Grounded in facts
7. Psychologists seek to observe, describe,
explain, predict, and modify behavior and
mental processes
Actually Sports psychologists can help
athletes improve performance by measuring
athletes’ heart rates and other body processes
and by interviewing athletes
Psychologists predict that athletes perform best
when anxiety is moderate
Psychologists help athletes control their behavior
and mental processes by teaching them how to
control anxiety
8. Psychology in Research
We know, psychology research can only be
basic or applied
There are 4 methods of research within
psychology
1. Experimental
2. Descriptive
3. Correlation
4. Biological
9. Gestalt psychology is an alternative to behaviorism
and structuralism
It is based on the idea that our perceptions of
objects are more than the sum of their parts. They
are wholes that give shape, or meaning, to the parts
It was developed by German psychologists Max
Wertheimer and Wolfgang Köhler
10. Sports performance analysis
Performance analysis is an area of sport and
exercise science concerned with actual sports
performance rather than self-reports by athletes or
laboratory experiments. The applied nature of
performance analysis research is described and a
justification for performance analysis as a research
area is made. There is overlap between
performance analysis and other disciplines as
technical, physical and psychological aspects of
performance are often being investigated within
performance analysis investigations.
11. There are a variety of methods that can be used to gather data
for performance analysis exercises, ranging from highly
quantitative biomechanical analysis to qualitative analysis.
Notational analysis is a method of recording and analyzing
dynamic and complex situations such as field games. It allows
the data to be gathered in an efficient manner, providing an
abstract view of the sport that focuses on the most important
information. In early manual notational systems, shorthand
symbols and tallies allowed data to be recorded efficiently.
More recently, computerized notational analysis systems have
followed advances in data entry technology and allowed
flexible and highly efficient processing of match data
12. Performance profiling Performance indicators in
sports performance are not stable variables like
anthropometric variables, and there are many
sources of variability in sports performance
including opposition effects, venue and score
line
Therefore, teams and individuals need to be
represented by performances from multiple
matches. A performance profiling performance
analysis is a collection of performance indicators
that together characterize the typical
performance
13. Questionnaires are written or electronic forms to
be completed by respondents for analysis by the
researcher. Questionnaires allow a greater
number of participants to be surveyed than
interviews. However, questionnaires do not
permit the level of probing or flexibility that
interviews do. There are many different types of
questionnaire, including self-completion
questionnaires, which could be administered in
person or sent and returned by post. There are
also questionnaires to be completed by the
researcher while asking questions in the presence
of the respondent or during a telephone call.
