3. Inherited Heart Conditions
• Inherited heart conditions can affect people of any age and can be life threatening.
For many families, the first sign there’s a problem is when someone dies suddenly
with no obvious cause or explanation.
Several genetic disorders are associated
with increased risk of premature heart attacks.
A relatively common disorder is
familial hypercholesterolemia, which
causes high levels of "bad" cholesterol
(low density lipoprotein, or LDL
cholesterol) beginning at birth.
4. What causes an inherited heart condition?
• It’s possible to have a faulty gene that can lead to a heart condition, yet never
develop any signs or symptoms of the condition itself. You can still pass the
genes on and there’s no way of knowing how it may affect your child, even if
they do inherit the same faulty gene.
Our DNA make each of us unique. They affect how we
look and how our bodies work. We inherit them from
our parents. Inherited heart conditions are caused by
a fault (or mutation) in one of more of our genes. If
one of your parents has a faulty gene, there’s a
50:50 chance you could inherit it. If you do, then
there’s also a 50:50 chance you could pass it on to
each of your children.
5. The most common inherited heart conditions are:
Inherited heart rhythm disturbances, for example:
Cardiomyopathies, for example:
Very high cholesterol levels:
Long QT syndrome (LQTS)
Brugada syndrome
Progressive cardiac conduction defect (PCCD)
Catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular
tachycardia (CPVT)
Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
Dilated cardiomyopathy
Arrhythmogenic right ventricular
cardiomyopathy
Familial hypercholesterolaemia
6. WORLD HEALTH RANKINGS
12 Pakistanis Every Hour Heart Attack
DIE Due to
1/3rd i.e. 34% of all deaths in Pakistan are caused by
cardiovascular diseases (CVDs).
7. Hypertension is the leading risk factor for
CVD and is associated with 7.6 million deaths
globally.
The prevalence of obesity in up to 45% of the
urban population of Pakistan as another major
risk factor for CVD.
The CVDs are a group of disorders of the
heart and blood vessels. Heart attacks and
strokes are usually acute events and are
mainly caused by a blockage that prevents
blood from flowing to the heart or brain.
8. How to prevent Heart diseases..?
The chance of developing heart disease can be
reduced by taking steps to prevent and control factors
that put people at greater risk. Individuals can help
prevent heart disease by eating a healthy diet,
maintaining a healthy weight, exercising regularly,
limiting alcohol use, and not smoking.
Early detection of this disorder can help
reduce the burden of heart disease in the
person with hypercholesterolemia as well as in
their family members.
9. Most important just go for Cardiac DNA
test. And then you will be able to know about
those Heart diseases, which can’t be
detected early stages and also don’t show
any symptoms.
DNA test will also tell you about your health
condition and diet, according to your heart.
By managing your life style according to your
DNA you will be able to defeat the HEART
diseases…
