Feel , Imagine, Do & Share…. Today at the very young age children suffer from tooth decay. So, we felt that an awareness should be given to the primary grade children to prevent tooth decay at early stage.
A map of my mouth…… Students create a map of their mouth while looking in the mirror. They note how many teeth they have & which kinds.

Dental quotes Some tortures are physical and some are mental, but the one that is both is dental. ~Ogden Nash The man with a toothache thinks everyone happy whose teeth are sound. ~George Bernard Shaw Even pearls are dark before the whiteness of his teeth. ~William R. Alger
Bring your words to life……….1. Warm and moist environments of the mouth help the germs to grow and damage the gums & the teeth.2. The gum is very close to the tooth surface and during chewing the food is forced to irritate gingival.3. The tooth itself is unique, in sense, once it is fully formed, it does not have repair power after injury.4.The germs grow in the pockets of gums and teeth if theyhave space in between the teeth.5. The systemic disease like diabetes, blood-pressure and chronicdiseases have their shadows on the teeth, gums and tongue.
Facts and much more………….6. The nutritional deficiency causes oral ulcer in the mouth which will help the germs to grow.7. Economical background results in intake of improper diet consisting of vitamin deficiencyspecially vitamin C which causes gum bleeding.8. Using a very rough material like charcoal toClean the teeth causes damage to the teeth & gums.9. Avoid the food, drink which is very hot.Dont use chilled water like drinking a hot teafollowed by ice-cream.10. Dont crack nuts with the help of teeth. It is better to slice apple or hard fruits and theneat.
Cont...11. Eat fibrous food so that the teeth get cleaned. The cheapest way is to eat guava, black berry and a small piece of sugarcane.12. The salivary flow should be increased to wash-away the food particles by first cleaning with water or using a orange slice. Older methods are to use cardamom (ilaichi).13. You should protect your teeth and the gum from extreme cold or hot drinks. Avoid insult from irritant causing gum injury.14. "Chew thirty two times", was the saying of old men. But at least we can chew the food well before we swallow15. Just remember there is a greater role of your dentist in preserving and restoring the health of the gum & the teeth.
Cont...16. As you maintain your health by exercise and balanced diet also visit dentist every six months for dental check-up.17. Remove the ill-fitting dentures, sharp edges to be smoothed, never use sharp pin to remove food debris.18. Remove food particle that is wedged in between teeth with the help of flossing...(a silk thread). Learn the correct way of brushing and help your children the same way.19. A mouth rinse with normal water will remove a food particle. Make a habit of washing with water several times a day.20. A moderation in eating with fruits, vegetables and vitamins and minerals is good. A well balanced diet contains all these but as the age advances, swallowing of vitamin pill on advice of physician may keep your health.
Do’s – Seize the day….(1) Do brush your teeth at least twice a day(2) Do floss your teeth after food to get rid of any food particles or plaques that are stuck in-between your teeth.(3) Do rinse your mouth with mouth rinse at least once a day to kill excessive oral bacteria’s(4) Do visit your dentist every half yearly or at least once a year for oral examination(5) Do eat more calcium rich food such as fish and milk(6) Do clean your tongue at least twice a day. It is recommended to do when you brush.
Don’ts –Value has a value only if its value is valued(1) Dont rush through your tooth brushing. Brush each tooth in circle manner at least 5 - 10 times(2) Dont intake too much sweets or sweet stuffs such as soft-drinks to avoid tooth decay.(3) Avoid carbonated soft drinks – which cause the calcium in your teeth to dissolve.(4) Dont be lazy to clean your teeth, gum and tongue properly.
Exclusiveness beyond compare…… Song about dental care…..
Choosing a Toothbrush1. A toothbrush is an important factor in preventing dental disease, especially gum problems.2. Expensive brushes are usually not satisfactory.3. Brush heads should be small enough to reach all parts of the mouth and should have a flat brushing surface with a straight handle.4. The medium or medium soft nylon bristles.5. one should probably change about four brushes per year.
Choosing a Tooth Paste1. Toothpaste should be of acceptable taste.2. preferably Tooth Paste should contain a small amount of fluoride.3. It is better to buy small tubes rather than the large.4. The tendency for some pastes to harden in the tube will be avoided - the contents should be used quicker.
Brushing is fun.... Brush up and down Side to side Upper jaw and lower jaw In a rotator motion.
I brush day & night Brushing the teeth day and night (Concept) Do oral rinsing after every meal. Gum massage is important in strengthening of gums and teeth. Tongue cleaning helps to speak better. Oral hygiene helps from bacteria.
Diet and Dental Health The prevention of dental decay begins with cutting down the amount of sugars taken in all forms. Some of them are: 1. All sugars (including honey) 2. Soft drinks such as colas and lemonades 3. Nearly all cereals 4. Cakes, biscuits and puddings. 5. Jam on your bread, marmalade on your toast. 6. Chocolates, sweets and toffees. 7. Peppermint sweets.
Sugar Free Snacks…………..... A chocolate candy bar of about 50 grams may contain the equivalent of ten teaspoons of sugar! A slice of two-layer chocolate cake may be the equivalent of fifteen teaspoons of sugar! If Children must have sweets, they should have them only once a day (preferably during meal time). But it is better to recommend sugar-free snacks. A good list would contain: Fruits: Apples, Oranges, Pears, Bananas Vegetables: Carrots, Celery, Tomatoes, Lettuce, Cucumber, also Nuts, Crisps, Cheese (in cubes), Eggs, Milk, Yogurt.
