This document provides an analysis of the representation of Dalit identity in three films by director Pa. Ranjith - Attakathi (2012), Madras (2014), and Kabali (2016). It examines how the clothing worn by Dalit characters in the films represents their social identity and position. The paper discusses how clothing has symbolic meaning and can be used to either maintain or challenge social boundaries. It applies semiotic analysis to understand how the films depict Dalit identity through costume choices. The representation of Dalits and their issues in cinema is important given historical struggles for social and political emancipation in Tamil Nadu.
