The document discusses several internal conflicts within India over the past decade and media reactions to them. It describes the Kashmir conflict between India and Pakistan over the territory of Kashmir. It also discusses the Naxalite insurgency by Maoist groups in eastern India, the Telangana movement for statehood in southern India, the 2002 Godhra riots between Hindus and Muslims in Gujarat, and religious violence between Hindus and Christians in Odisha in 2008. Across these conflicts, the media is criticized for both being too silent at times as well as sensationalized and polarized reporting at other times. Experts also note political and economic motivations behind prolonging some of these conflicts.

Political Activities in Jammu and Kashmir 1846 1946ijtsrd
Many political reform movements were launched in the last decade of the 19th century in Kashmir. These reform movements, in turn, gave rise to the desire for the achievement of a democratic political system in place of autocracy. The early socio religious reform movements among the Hindus and the Muslims made an effective impact on the politics of the State of Jammu and Kashmir. These movements brought about socio political awakening among the people. Political awakening leads to the awareness among the masses about their rights and the nature of relationship that exist between them. In a scenario where the relationship is oppressive and discriminatory, political awakening leads to movements for change of the structure. In this paper I will try to find out the factors responsible for the emergence of political consciousness in Kashmir during the period under study. Saffron On The Rampage - Gujarat’s Muslims pay for Lashkar’s Deedssabrangsabrang
A collective investigation into the Aug 3-10, 2000 post
bandh violence all over Gujarat state tracks the most
recent evidence of how the state ‘s minorities — Muslims
and Christians — live in a state of terror, ghettoised,
with their patriotism forever under question.
Gujarat 1998 - 2000 is live testimony to the utter contempt
that the Indian Constitution and the rule of law
have been reduced to, by BJP elected representatives
and VHP-BD and RSS hit squads
When will the rest of India wake up to the mockery of
the Constitution taking place in the laboratory of
Hindu Rashtra?
2. INTERNAL CONFLICTS WITHIN OUR NATION IN THE PAST DECADE AND MEDIA REACTIONS TO IT.
3. INTRODUCTION Every nation faces with conflicts. They are divided into internal and external conflicts. Even India has had its share of conflicts. Here we are going to highlight some of the internal conflicts faced by India in the past one decade
6. It arises from the partition of India in 1947, both India and Pakistan claiming Kashmir to be their land
7. India and Pakistan have fought three wars over Kashmir : 1947, 1965, 1999
8. The turmoil between the Indian armed forces, the militants and separatists has resulted in thousands of deaths
9.
10. The militants wing after the state election in 1987 created a catalyst for the mujahedeen insurgency which continues even today
11. India claims that these insurgents are Islamic terrorist groups from Pakistan administered Kashmir and Afghanistan fighting to make Jammu and Kashmir a part of Pakistan
12. India also states that the terrorists have been killing citizens of Kashmir and violating human rights.
13.
14.
15. In an interview Syed Shah Geelani said that, “violence should be stopped as it would only hurt people and the image of Kashmir , don’t burn the police stations as it is not related to our movement, violence must stop and the protest must be peaceful.”
16. According to media no matter what the political party say the innocent children of Kashmir should not get affected
17.
18. Why doesn’t India opt for a democratic solution for the Kashmir issue, if it believes it in the true spirit of democracy?
19. According to KC Singh the media wants the things to settle down though it may be quiet but it has done a responsible amount of reporting.
20.
21. Another opinion says that even though there is nothing, people can always use Kashmir as an issue
22.
23.
24. The Naxalite movement started when a militant section of CPI(M) led by Charu Majumdar and Kanu Sanyal attacked the police on 25 May 1967 in Naxalbari village in North Bengal after a farmer was killed over a land dispute.
25. The Naxals are considered far-left radical communists, supportive of Maoist political sentiment and ideology. Their origin can be traced to the split in 1967 of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), leading to the formation of the Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist).
26.
27. In their efforts to intimidate and consolidate control, the Naxalites tax local villagers, extort businesses, abduct and kill "class enemies" such as government officials and police officers, and prevent aid from getting through to people who need it
28. On 6 April, 2010 Naxalites launched the biggest assault in the history of the Naxalite movement by killing 76 CRPF jawans
29.
30.
31. Some believe Maoist rebels have a point; They are not asking for a new country, only a better country
34. According to some experts, It will need the coordination of 28 separate state administrations as well as the government in power to combat the Maoist rebellion
35.
36.
37. In Jan 1969,after the formation of Andhra Pradesh people of Telangana expressed their dissatisfaction and demanded a separate state
38. Students agitated at Osmania university In Hyderabad and this is known as the Telangana movement.
39. There was widespread violence and death of around 369 students , though the government had promised to look into their grievances they didn’t o much for it
44. Over a dozen students committed suicide 'demanding Telangana', but circumstantial evidences tell a different story. Almost all of them wrote similar text in their 'suicide notes'
45.
46. The process has already begun in some rural areas. A group of Muslim youth was physically attacked in Nizamabad when they refused to join a pro-Telangana rally and chant 'Jai Telangana‘
47. the agitation for separate Telangana is proving to be a deadly game being played by politicians for their own gains.
48.
49.
50. The Sabarmati Express returning from Ayodhya was stopped and attacked by a Muslim mob, 59 Hindu passengers were burnt alive.
51. 790 Muslims and 254 Hindus were killed and 523 places of worship were destroyed.

53.
54. Attack on Muslims by Hindu mobs was started in Ahmadabad , Baroda and for the 1st time in Gandhinagar.
55. The Hindu mob threw stones and burnt a Muslim housing complex called Gulburg society in Ahmadabad.

57.
58.

60. Gujarat Samachar and Pro Hindutva Sandesh were faulted for distorted and provocative reporting.
61. The Gujarat violence received extensive news coverage and carried sensationalized visuals and graphics.
62.
63. In April 2009, the special investigating team(SIT) investigated that Teesta Setalvad had cooked up cases of violence to spice up the incident
64. According to the Tehelka investigation the attacks were not pre-planned
65.
66. ORISSA CONFLICT on 23rd august 2008, swami LakshmanandSaraswatia leader of the VishwaHindu Parishadwas killed along with for four others The Hindu groups along with BJP blamed the Christians for the attack Some say that the Maoists has bribed the Christians for the attack Later, Azad, one of the Maoist leader claimed responsibility for the attack On 30th of September, some news sources reported rape of a nun
67. ORISSA CONFLICT Though at first she refused the incident, but later she gave a written complaint about her rape To protest the killings of Lakshmananad and the other men, VHP called for a statewide shut on august 25th,2008 and on the same day rioters attacked a Christian orphanage at Khuntpalli Violence still continued till the 31st of august 310 villages were affected with 4000 homes torched, more than 18,000 people were injured and 50,000 displaced, around 11,000 are still in relief camps
69. MEDIA REACTION The recent violence in Kandhamal should be taken as a caste conflict than a communal clash The Chief Minister, his cabinet colleagues from the party, BJD Legislators and the party members were busy celebrating their 10th foundation day in the capital city of Bhubaneswar ,while Kandhamal was burning This was the first time in Orissa that Church services could not be held on a Christmas day at many places in Kandhamaldespite strong police presence Some of the leaders termed the police action as “inadequate” and “improper”
70. MEDIA REACTION It indicates that the issues leading to the clash between the Hindus and the Christian members, were related to the chronic intolerance and discontentment between them Some of the questions raised by media which are still unanswered – why did the Kandhas declare a bandh immediately after the clash in Brahmanigaon when communal tension was gripping the district? Was Brahmanigaon clash a communal one or was a caste based conflict ?
71. MEDIA REACTION The clash was more motivated by political power rather than mere caste conflicts, as they could take the advantage of the divide Both the VHP and the christian groups knew the ground reality, but none of them appealed to restrain themselves from violence Rather, the leaders of both the sides engaged themselves in accusing each other and adding fuel to the fire
