Maya Angelou is
an American
author, poet,
performer and
professor.
3. EARLY LIFE
Maya Angelou was born on the 4th of April 1928 , in Saint
Louis , Missouri.
She was the second child of Bailey Johnson , worked as a
doorman and a dietitian and Vivian Johnson who was a
nurse and card dealer.
When she was three , she and her brother started to live
with her grandmother in Stamps , Arkansas.
4. LATER LIFE
In 1940, Maya Angelou went to live with her mother
in San Francisco , California . There, she completed
high school and had a son .
She worked at various jobs including a cook and she
was a member of the opera Porgy and Bess.
She was well known for publishing seven
autobiographies , three books of essays and seven
books about poetry.
A well known book of hers is I Know Why the Caged
Bird Sings .
5. HOW DID MAYA ANGELOU HELP BALANCE
RIGHTS ?
In 1960 , she joined the Civil
Rights Movement and then ,in
1960,she went back to the
united States of America .
There , she worked with the
Organisation of African
American Unity which was led
by Malcom X.
