Hello everyone, my name is Ryan Chen and in the next 5 minutes. I will be trying to enlighten you by talking about how this year has supported New Tech’s mission statement. First, I want to start by talking about collaboration. Which is working with other people to make or achieve something.

Even though the definition is simple and seems like it is easy to accomplish, but it is happening around us every second. And coming to New Tech has taught me the full meaning of collaboration because of its group projects Every time we do a group project, I learn so much about collaboration.

for example, a recent project that we did, the YAFF project. Which I’m assuming that everyone here agrees that this was not an easy project and cannot be done without collaboration. At least for my group that is. In this project, there were different roles that were required.
to make the project a success, such as an editor, cameraman, or actor. And all of these roles played as an important individual parts of the film. As I was doing this project, I realized that collaboration is required to solving real-world problems
and could be done by spreading the word through filming, so that project really shaped my journey. Which is why this project empowered me to pursue the passion that I have for filming. Going back to when my journey started,
About 10 years ago, when I was 5 years old, my mom bought me a camera for birthday. I made short movies using a camera and two mini figures, I liked it so much that I made over one hundred videos in a few months. Now looking back at it, I believe that was the moment when I discovered my element.

However, there were many changes to my journey when I discovered more interests and found out that there were way more things that I am passionate about, for example, about 3 years ago, my dad taught me the fundamentals of programming
, I liked it do much I stood up late to just finish lines by lines of code. Programming is such big part of my life, it inspired me to become a programmer when I grow up. Even though I am not really experienced with my different elements. This was just the beginning,

because after finding out the things that I’m passionate at, I have a good understanding of what I’m good at, and what I’m not. That’s why finding your element is so important to making your life a success while doing what you love.
Another project that taught me many things is the Pedagogy for the proactive project. In this project, we were given a social issue that we needed to build knowledge and research on. Our group’s social issue is environmental sustainability. This project let me realize that there are many problems

and we can make a difference by just changing the little parts of our everyday life. This project also taught me the importance of informing other people around this world and how collaboration makes changing the world much easier.
I also learned about how to do research, find the resources you need, and how to explain it to other people about it. These are things I didn’t fully understand how to do before coming to new tech.
Also while doing this project, I felt like I was heard by other teachers that looked at our lesson plan, I also felt like the podcast that our group made amplified my voice, which fulfills one of new tech’s mission. And not only for this project,

Other projects have also made me feel like I have a voice and it is heard, like the Slam for a Cause project. In this project, we created poems about a social cause that we picked from our assigned region of the world
At the end of the project, we presented in front of the whole class and that made me feel like we are stepping the right way towards changing society and changing the world, and all it takes is the action of one person.
Anyways, all these projects that I explained all components of what has supported New Tech Mission statement. From collaboration, empowering learners, to even pursuing your own passion. And from this project, I’ve learned so much about what’s going on right now.
FAST
So… All of you are probably wondering, what about my next steps. Well, next year, I will be going into my sophomore year and learning about more things and in two years, I will be taking the SAT or the ACT, and be applying for colleges. And while that may seem really hard a year ago,
New Tech has given me more knowledge on my future and what I want to do when I grow up. It also has prepared me the professional perspective of presentations and how to talk to facilitators.

Overall, New Tech has explained to me what it will be like in the future and what I need to prepare for. This important to me especially because of how much I care for the future and what I want to do.

Even though I have not decided fully on what I want to do in my future, I will still keep finding my element and the things that I love to do. And you know what they say, everything you do now is for the future, so I better get going because the time is ticking. Thank You for Listening.
You will keep the timings in this Powerpoint as you upload this to Slideshare http://www.slideshare.net/ or Slideboom http://www.slideboom.com/. Then you will submit the “share link” or URL to your facilitators.
