The Road To Outstanding Progress
The Roding Valley 10
10 Strategies to enable maximum student progress in your lesson.
1. Big picture and measurable learning objectives. Do pupils know why
they are doing what they are doing?
2. High challenge, low stress – use of data to pitch the work appropriately.
3. Engage and speak to every student – use of effective questioning, (Pose,
pause, pounce, bounce).
4. Differentiate to make work accessible to all. Use of TAs, reading age
data, by task, by outcome, by groups.
5. Positive behaviour and environment for learning – use the Behaviour
plan consistently to eliminate low level disruption.
6. Optimal use of time and pace – well planned, use of timer, energy and
enthusiasm.
7. Student led learning, research, presentations, chrome books, Doddle,
GCSE pod, Home Learning
8. Assessment for Learning - Check all students make progress (white
boards, colour cards, lollipop sticks, bingo quizzes)
9. Feedback - Ensure students know how to improve, self, peer and teacher
feedback, green pens, web cams, model answers
10 Close the Gap - Review the learning regularly and allow pupils time to
respond and make accelerated progress.
