What Can Motivate Us to Be Faithful During These Tough Times
1. z
2 Tim. 4:1-8
I charge thee therefore before God, and
the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge
the quick and the dead at his appearing
and his kingdom; 2 Preach the word; be
instant in season, out of season; reprove,
rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and
doctrine.
2. z
2 Tim. 4:1-8
3 For the time will come when they will
not endure sound doctrine; but after their
own lusts shall they heap to themselves
teachers, having itching ears; 4 And they
shall turn away their ears from the truth,
and shall be turned unto fables.
3. z
2 Tim. 4:1-8
5 But watch thou in all things, endure
afflictions, do the work of an evangelist,
make full proof of thy ministry. 6 For I
am now ready to be offered, and the
time of my departure is at hand.
4. z
2 Tim. 4:1-8
7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished
my course, I have kept the faith:
8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a
crown of righteousness, which the Lord,
the righteous judge, shall give me at that
day: and not to me only, but unto all them
also that love his appearing.

Motivation
– The state or condition of being
motivated or having a strong
reason to act or accomplish
something. Motive, Inspiration,
Encouragement, Reason, Drive,
Push.
7. z
The primary theme of the
letter is the need for
faithfulness in the face of
hardship.
8. z
That Timothy was to be faithful to
Christ and to sound Doctrine:
To hold on to it, as Apostle Paul did,
To teach it, for it brings great reward,
To abide in it, knowing that enemies will
arise,
To preach it, in season and out of
season.
11. z
2 Tim.4:1
I charge thee therefore before God, and the
Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the
quick and the dead at his appearing and his
kingdom; 2 Preach the word; be instant in
season, out of season; reprove, rebuke,
exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
12. z
The word, “charge,” means to
adjure, which means, to
command or charge solemnly,
often under oath or penalty.
The words, “be instant” mean,
to be at hand, to be ready.
13. z
The words, “in season, out
of season,” means that
Timothy was to preach God’s
truth when the circumstances
were favourable and also
when they were not
favourable.
16. z
2 Tim. 4:1b
…who shall judge the quick and
the dead at his appearing and his
kingdom…
17. z
Romans 10:14
How then shall they call on him in
whom they have not believed?
and how shall they believe in him
of whom they have not heard?
and how shall they hear without a
preacher?
19. z
2 Tim. 4:3-5
For the time will come when they will
not endure sound doctrine; but after
their own lusts shall they heap to
themselves teachers, having itching
ears;
20. z
2 Tim. 4:3-5
4 And they shall turn away their
ears from the truth, and shall be
turned unto fables. 5 But watch
thou in all things, endure
afflictions, do the work of an
evangelist, make full proof of thy
ministry.
21. z
God's people will reject sound
doctrine
They will seek false teachers
They will embrace lies.
23. z
2 Tim. 4:6-7
For I am ready to be offered, and
the time of my departure is at
hand. 7 I have fought a good
fight, I have finished my course, I
have kept the faith:
24. z
The word, “offered” means to
be poured out on the altar as a
drink offering
The word, “departure” is
referring to Paul’s impending
execution at the hands of the
Roman government.
26. z
2 Cor. 4:8-10
We are troubled on every side, yet not
distressed; we are perplexed, but not in
despair; 9 Persecuted, but not forsaken;
cast down, but not destroyed; 10 Always
bearing about in the body the dying of the
Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus
might be manifest in our body.
28. z
Acts 14:19-22
And there came thither certain
Jews from Antioch and Iconium,
who persuaded the people, and,
having stoned Paul, drew him out
of the city, supposing he had
been dead.
29. z

disciples, and exhorting them to

must through much tribulation
enter into the kingdom of God.
35. z
2 Cor. 11:24-28
Of the Jews five times received I
forty stripes save one. 25 Thrice
was I beaten with rods, once was
I stoned, thrice I suffered
shipwreck, a night and a day I
have been in the deep;
36. z
2 Cor. 11:24-28
26 In journeyings often, in perils of
waters, in perils of robbers, in
perils by mine own countrymen, in
perils by the heathen, in perils in
the city, in perils in the wilderness,
in perils in the sea, in perils among
false brethren;
37. z
2 Cor. 11:24-28
27 In weariness and painfulness,
in watchings often, in hunger and
thirst, in fastings often, in cold
and nakedness. 28 Beside those
things that are without, that which
cometh upon me daily, the care
of all the churches.
39. z
2 Tim. 4:8
Henceforth there is laid up for me
a crown of righteousness, which
the Lord, the righteous judge,
shall give me at that day: and not
to me only, but unto all them also
that love his appearing.

1 Corinthians 3:13-14
Every man’s work shall be made
manifest: for the day shall declare it,
because it shall be revealed by fire; and
the fire shall try every man’s work of
what sort it is. 14 If any man’s work
abide which he hath build thereupon, he
shall receive a reward.
