The document provides an agenda for a ThinkTank meeting of the Boston Television (BTV) organization. It includes updates from various divisions and departments, including Station, Programming, Production, and General BTV. Key discussion points include the station manager meeting with legal to discuss a livestream contract, improving communication for film contests and awards, the current budget and fundraising initiatives, improving the website, finalizing production contracts and recruiting remaining positions, and providing equipment training. The eboard meeting agenda discusses the secretary position, reading the BTV constitution, holding another event before the semester ends, and fundraising goals.
1. THINKTANK Agenda---
this week is a checkin and we have some ideas we need thoughts on. Next week will be discussion of
the constitution in addition to all this.
Divisional and Departmental Update
Let anyone speak for themselves who can, and encourage them to tell us what they’re working on, and
what steps are being taken in the next week to move forward.
STATION
Station Manager: Livestream status is: setting up a meeting this week to meet with Ricky and legal guy
to discuss contract, which Joe and I have read through.
Publicity: How did the premieres go, what improvements do we need to encourage as far as
communication in the future? Also discuss next semester plans of the film contest and the awards thing.
How can we get more people to come to premieres/will we be able to?
Bizdev: Where we at? How much money do we have? Do we have budget template forms and such?
Make sure to be in contact with Seicha, Brian, and Karthik.
Web: Met with Jordan Place, earlier today, who said he’ll volunteer to design, build, and manage the
website for BTV. Specifics to be determined later, skills to be evaluated.
PROGRAMMING
Programming Directors: What happened at the meeting? What are people working on and how’s it
going?
Questions: How are we going to capitalize on the really cool fact that we have an Itunes? When are we
getting Leslie Thorntons videos and digitizing them? How soon can we see how much footage?
PRODUCTION
General: Contracts (find who was working on them and get them together). Dave, encourage people to
check out the camera if they want to get to know how to us e it, encourage them to play with it, read
the manual. Also, let Will and Ben speak about training sessions. Also, let Cailey promote PASS classes.
Series Production: What initiatives are we taking to improve communication and build positive
relationships with shows? How do we make producers feel like a part of btv? Let’s brainstorm some
ideas. Maybe we meet with producers on a monthly basis? Invite them to every thinktank meeting?
Throw an exclusive producers party?
2. Studio: just do a shoutout for anyone who may want to do studio production. We need somebody who
says “I’m gonna learn livestream and once a week I’m going to try out this live thing until it works.”
Event: pitch.
Doc-Narrative: Film a month club and 8 day film thing. Get ideas on the film a month club.
Ad: Farah won’t be there, but get an update for her on the ad thing or she won’t work on it.
Tech: lock, equipment training, etc.
For production in general: something I forgot to mention last time. So for each production manager,
they’re responsibilities are divided into project management and resource development. I recommend
suggesting to each PM that they come in with three ideas for resource development and a plan for how
they’re going to guide productions through the production process. Also, since you guys are actually
semipolitical (you’re essentially production advocacy on campus), what kind of political moves can we
make in the university to gather btv production support? This can be big, and it’s pretty interesting. Take
some time to think this one out. Remember also we’re on the Student Union.
GENERAL BTV:
If there’s some time, talk about the website. What do we want in our website? By this Friday, everyone
interested send a word doc in with their thoughts on the current website, and what improvements they
think can be made/things they’d like to see/you think would be helpful for filmmakers, students,
producers, local businesses, etc. DUE FRIDAY, so we can give them to the potential webmaster.
3. Eboard Meeting
Station: Everyone take a copy of the constitution and bring it back next week with evaluations. It’s not
complete, but add ideas that you have.
Sam Eilertsen has applied to the Secretary position. The secretary keeps minutes and such and does
some legwork, but also acts as an assistant station manager in that they can be a whip within the
organization, they can create communication between different parts of the organization, and they can
start up their own initiatives to work out on the side. They don’t vote on eboard decisions, but they sit
on the eboard. The position is broad and purposely vague so that the secretary has the opportunity to
really do a lot of interesting work. It’s somewhat, but not necessarily, set up as a future station manager
position. Are we cool with this? He could come to the party!
Basically, I need a lot of help. I’d like him to help me. He has my vote.
Production: Important shit: contracts, recruiting those last positions. Dave you need to read relevant
parts of the contract.
Programming: Joe, you need to read all of the contract. So do I.
Publicity: We have the premieres, do we want to have another kind of event before the semester lets
out?
Bizdev: Let’s get a fundraising initiative off the ground before the year let’s out. What can we do and
how much can we make? How much money do we have? What should we spend it on? My call is a new
computer (our own, not conmags) and two hd monitors so that when we broadcast in HD with
livestream, we can actually view it how it’s supposed to be viewed. I’m going to strongly urge against
buying any new production equipment unless it’s small and necessary to ease of functioning. A lot of
this money should also go to an aggressive spring btv marketing company. Not even shows, just
marketing btv, the logo, the website.
Tech: GAHHH LOCCCKKKKKK. Also, do you need a hand? How do we make this easier on you/for the
organization?
Web: Oh where are you, young webmaster?
FOR NEXT WEEK
Read through Constitution and bring back thoughts, ideas, and we’ll have a lively discussion.
