My name is Roger Van de Peer.
I’m an independent piping engineer and have my own company
“Pijpleiding.com”. I have already carried out order from Agfa, BASF, BAYER,
TOTAL and SHELL and currently Hertel Mechanical.
In a former live, I was engineering designer for BASF Antwerp for 31 year.
As a hobby I enjoy singing in a church choir, using my windpipe (i.e. the tube that
connects the pharynx or larynx to the lungs, allowing the passage of air). I like to
visite archeological industrial sites on my holidays. I love my wife, my family, my
work. I am passionate about pipes and the study of English.
10 years ago I started the “Pipelines, Piping and Welding” study group within the
Flemish Chamber of Engineers, commonly known as VIK.

I first came into contact with VVIA during a lecture on Petrol South by Adriaan Linters.
Last year I took my first weekend course in industrial archeology.
This year I’m taking a 5 saterday course in Antwerp.

This is the first meeting of E‐FAITH I will attend. I believe it is an opportunity to talk
about pipes and ask friends how to increase my knowledge and understanding of piping.

tot het bestuderen en desgevallend behouden van het erfgoed van
pijpleidingen.
verslag geven van de reacties op de vragen die ik aan mijn vrienden stelde.
Heel veel info kan men langs het internet bekomen. Maar het wordt toch spannender
als je dit in een grotere context of omgeving in een netwerk kunt beleven.
Op het internet vind je in fotonetwerken als Flickr, heel veel beeldmateriaal.

Het beschrijft vaak alleen de datum, de plaats en de fototoestel gegevens. Prachtig
commentaar in verband met het verdwijnen van industriële archeologie bij de foto’s heb
ik gelezen bij . Het is een pleidooi voor meer aandacht voor professioneel bewaren
van industriële installaties.
Op mijn vakantiereizen wordt er uitgekeken, naar industriële archeologische sites. De
leukste ervaring was op een wandeling in een kloof op het eiland Wight. Halfweg was
een museum over “PLUTO”, de Pipe‐Line under the Ocean. Op mijn laatste reis naar
Rostock zag ik op de autoweg tussen Hannover en Hamburg een verkeersbord met de
richtingaanwijzing voor het “Duetsche Erdöl Museum” te Wieze.

Welke conserveringstechnieken worden gebruikt bij uw musea voor pijpleidingen. Hoe
kan men op termijn deze pijpleidingen in stand houden en ze beschermen tegen roest
(kosten, personeel, technische aspecten bv. kathodische protectie, …)? Zijn er ergens
voorbeelden bekend van de bescherming/het behoud van pijpleidingen, ondergrondse

Pluto Pipeline under the ocean.
On a trip to the Isle of Wight, I came across a museum in a park which held the remains
of the first underwater pipeline for liquid fuels, named PLUTO.
It enabled to supply the Allies with the necessary fuel on an artificial island near the
landings in Normandy.

world. A stroll in the trendy old port, along the docks and renovated and historic sites.
I am the founder of the Piping study group and for 5 years I was also the chairman of the
Pipelines and Welding study group of the Flemish Chamber of Engineers, commonly
known as VIK.
On June,20th, there was an evening stroll and a lecture on high pressure waterworks.
This building was one of many high pressure waterworks at the end of the 19th
century. They ensured that Antwerp was a modern international port . A system of high
pressure water pipes provided the necessary power, which now provided by
electricity.
What is SIWE?
Learn more about the history of the Zuiderpershuis, its restoration, the functioning of
the hydraulic power plant and its function in the former port. A guide shares detail
about the architecture of the building, and will show you around in the two towers with
accumulators, the chain annealing furnace, and the forge and the former workshops...
The exhibition by SIWE (Support organisation industrial and scientific patrimony) opens
up the Zuiderpershuis in all its aspects. Remarkable are the old post cards and the photo
collection.

Zuiderpershuis Antwerpen
Dit gebouw was één van de vele pershuizen die aan het einde van de 19e eeuw er voor
zorgde, dat Antwerpen een moderne wereldhaven werd. Een systeem van
hogedrukwaterleidingen zorgde voor de nodige kracht, welke nu door elektriciteit is
overgenomen.

A poignant story which depicts the love of a child for her young mother and the
unbreakable bond which is created between them. Rosie is a sensitive and bright 13‐
year‐old, whose longing for her mother’s love mirrors the latter’s struggle to reconcile
the events of her past to the consequences of the present. Her mother gave birth to her
when she was 14 years old and prefers to present Rosie not as her daughter, but as her
younger sister. In an attempt to make sense of the complexity around her, Rosie creates
a bright and imaginative world with her one and only friend, Jimi. The two worlds
mingle, until Rosie’s drive to help her mother achieve her happiness leads to a tragic
turn of events.
Patrice Toye is the unassuming young Belgian director whose first feature (1998), "Rosie"
is so deeply personal and complex and because it is about the inner life of a working‐
class, 13‐year‐old girl. "I had to tell this story. It was stronger than myself. There are
many films about young boys, but not girls. I had to tell this story before I told any
other" said Toye, 32, who shot the film in six weeks in her native Antwerp, the capital of
Flemish Belgium.
Synopsis Rosie
Rosie is thirteen, brutal and vulnerable. She stands with one foot in the dreamland of a
child, the other in the sober world of adults. But Rosie is in first place in her own world,
a place where imagination can move seamlessly in reality, between dream and reality
which no objections are practical.
As idyllic and enchanting experience her world is so gray and its surroundings. Rosie

lives with her hardworking mother Irene in a small apartment in a soulless class
neighborhood. Mother and daughter love each other, but it does hurt Rosie that her
mother no mother can call. Irene was indeed looking for a man and asks Rosie to act as
her little sister. Neither the apartment, nor Rosie's dream world is a place for mothers
gambler brother Michel. Rosie wants to kick a reality show, a well‐aimed kick in the
direction of her fairy tale world. The Devil is in her head.
Rosie ends up in a closed setting. Part of her mysterious past, she reveals in letters to
Jimi, a pretty rebellious street kid. In Rosie's eyes Jimi her prince. Because Rosie is a
Tsarina and Tsarina goes for nothing less.
