I have a Patient Empowerment Program
since I started my private practice in 1982
when I would include
detailed explanations of the patients’
conditions and management and also
education and advice on restoration and
maintenance of health.

I reinforced it in 1989,
meaning I tried to reach out to the public
or lay people
when I started my online writing under the
theme of
Education for Health Development in the
Philippines.

when I started using the
social media of Facebook
to reach out to more people and patients.

In 2020, I reinforced it further by making the
Patient Empowerment Program more structured
with measurement of learning outcomes.
I placed an OLETE after a formal learning module.
OLETE stands for Online Learning cum Evaluation
Test Exercise.
Basically, OLETE is an online test and/or exercise
that has for its objectives the simultaneous
promotion of mastery of learning and evaluation
of the learners or students.

Since May 15, 2021, I have added a
ROJoson PEP TALK.
This PEP TALK is designed to be a regular
online or virtual talk by ROJoson on health
concerns and issues.
It is done on a once-a-week basis using
Zoom apps.

The TALK is limited to one hour with less
than 20-minute talk followed by 20-minute
questions and answers and interactions.
The audience is usually limited to 15 to 20
persons for every session.

perspective.

confusions in physicians’ management and
patients’ decision-making on what to do for
their health.

The treatment of a patient is dependent on the

Although in the end, it will be the patients who
should be deciding, a lot of times they are
influenced by the mind-set of the physicians.
Physicians have variable mind-sets.
