Ch.10 Wellness and Stress Management
How can focusing on health help you manage stress?
Stress is a physical or mental strain that occurs when your body reacts to
pressure. Stress can be either negative or positive. Stress can be conquered by
being healthy. If you eat healthy and manage what you eat, you tend to have
more energy and longer life span. Healthy eating requires balance and
moderation. For example: Vary the fruits, choose foods with low fat and
cholesterol, reduce portion size, and substitute other activities for stress-related
eating. Being physical active is another way to conquer stress because it helps
cope with stress. During physical activity, the brain releases endorphins,
chemical compounds that have positive and calming effect on the body. If you
don’t exercise then you can walk a mile every other day. Yet, sleeping is an
important factor in our lives. Sleep is crucial for both stress reduction and normal
development. It’s recommended for students to get 8-9 hours of sleep every day
to maintain good grades and a high GPA. Based on personal experience,
because I don’t get enough sleep I can’t concentrate as well and have short
term memory. To sum it all up, if we eat fruits and vegetables, exercise daily, and
sleep 8 hours every night we can easily manage stress in our lives.
