Environmental Protection Agency Essay
1)When was the environmental protection agency (EPA) formed?
–1970
What events prompted its formation?
–The U.S. was rocked by a series of waste land toxic materials, the earth's automatic, self–cleansing,
life support systems became increasingly threatened and consequently people from all walks of life
and from every part of the political spectrum were expressing their anxieties on the streets and this
happened to b the largest public American demonstration ever seen in America. Hence prompting
President Richard Nixon transmitted Reorganization Plan No. 3 to the United States Congress by
executive order, creating the EPA as a single, independent agency from a number of smaller arms of
different federal agencies.

–The citizen suit provision of the Clean Water Actis an important tool to protect and improve rivers,
creeks, streams, and wetlands especially as state agencies may not have the resources to conduct
regular water quality monitoring on every water body. Citizen involvement in monitoring and
reporting pollution problems is key to watershed protection; hereby helping the government enforce
the laws.
4)The expression "canary in the coal mine" means an early warning of danger. (Coal miners would
carry canaries or small animals with them into mines to detect deadly but odorless and tasteless
methane gas.)
a)To what does the expression "canary in the coal mine' apply in poisoned waters?
I will say that as much as the expression "Canary in the coal mine" implies an early warning of
danger in mines so does it in water too. In this case the fish directly helps us know the extent to
which our ecological sphere is damaged, and helps humans to take the necessary precautions to save
the environment.
5)Twenty million Americans took to the streets for the first earth day in 1970 as a result of
pollution they could see an smell: the Cuyahoga river in Cleveland burned, with flames that
towered eight stories high; the 1969 oil spill in Santa Barbara closed virtually all the beaches in
southern California; people had declared Lake Erie dead.
a)How according to the film, have both pollution and people's reaction to Earth day

The Protection Of The Environment
Introduction
Information and public participation play an important role in the protection of the environment. To
that end they have become rights which are protected internationally, continentally and domestically,
ensuring that all citizens and organizations are able to play an active role in the management of the
environmental at all levels. By enabling public participation, governments are inevitably providing
transparency in governance and therefore reinforcing the legislative and institutional safeguards that
have been put in place to protect the environment. It is important that some level of transparency is
available regarding environmental decisions in order to allow the public be aware of
decision–making procedures, as well the...show more content...
Under Principle 10, public participation is a creature of three distinct requirements Firstly, there is a
recognition that participation does not occur in a vacuum; rather, it is facilitated by a healthy
understanding of the current state of the environment. The Rio Declaration recognized that "at the
national level, each individual shall have appropriate access to information concerning the
environment that is held by public authorities, including information on hazardous materials and
activities in their communities ."
As such, there is a responsibility on governments to make available information on the environment
and the current risks faced to the citizens. The Rio Declaration states that "states shall facilitate and
encourage public awareness and participation by making information widely available" . This
includes educating local communities as to the environmental risks they specifically face and their
sources. It also means providing an adequate mechanism for governmental bodies to provide this
information.
Secondly when the public is fully aware of the status of their environment, then citizens and interest
groups should be provided with "the opportunity to participate in the decision making–process ".
Individuals and organizations should have a say in the drafting of legislation, regulation and
guidelines.

The importance of the environment appears when many disconcerting events throughout the years
have emerged: tsunami and flooding, drought and starving, pollution, declining animal populations
and many others. Looking behind these events is make us realize that we have caused irreversible
damaged, through our daily behaviors.
We now live in a modern, consumerist and largely urban existence throughout the developed world
and we consume a lot of natural resources every day. ENVS course focuses on understanding cause
and effect of social, economic and environmental impacts between our need and our product
technologically and economically, and how to protect the environments in which we and others live.
In ENVS class we do not learn just about the environment, but also about our health as a society in
ensuring that no people or areas of life suffer as a result of, and also about examining the
longer–term effects of the human activities and asking questions about how it improved and to
ensure the quality of life for this and future generations. Teaching students aboutsustainability have
been very important. It develops the knowledge, values, and worldviews required to make certain
that there's enough for everyone, forever. It's different to other learning areas as it focuses on
protecting natural environments and creating an ecologically and socially just world through
informed action. Sustainability curriculum in CU Denver develops the capabilities, skills, and

The Problem Of Environmental Protection Essay
Theodore Roosevelt had once said, "The nation behaves well if it treats the natural resources as
assets which it must turn over to the next generation increased, and not impaired in value". These
words have resonated since and have been an example as to why it is our duty as inhabitants of
this planet to provide protection to the ever so fragile environment. But what is Environmental
protection exactly? Well it is one of the most important, and expensive problems businesses and
society are facing today. Why you may ask? Since the industrial age all the countries around the
world have been burning an assortment of fuel to power factories, vehicles, heat homes, and even
to cook with and when these fuels are burned they emit carbon dioxide and various other chemicals
which over time add up and take a very long time to breakdown. As a result they trap heat from the
sun in the earth's atmosphere raising the global temperature and causing a domino effect on the
environment. Likewise companies produce hazardous waste and dump them illegally in waters
which kills vast amounts of marine life. Although laws are in place to protect the planet, inventions
are slowly being created to provide alternative sources of energy and agencies already exist to
protect the environment. However it is our duty as people in a society to act on our own by
demanding for our government to show greater concern for the environment by reforming
environmental protection laws with stricter guide lines,

Living sustainably isn 't always easy. It seems that every aspect of life can be looked at from a
sustainable perspective, and when trying to reduce your ecological footprint this can be very
overwhelming. Previously, I believed that our values must be redefined to live sustainably,
However, this series of lecture reflections made me realize that instead of changing our values to
live sustainably, we must apply our current values in a sustainable way! Elizabeth Mrema is an
environmental activist who uses her passion of law to help sustain the environment. Sharon Clark is
a principle at the office of the Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development
(CESD), and uses her background in political science to examine the government 's impact on the
environment. Finally, graduates of Dalhousie's Sustainability program explain where their degree in
sustainability has taken them. Through the stories of people who have applied sustainability to
things they are passionate about, I have realized that we do not have to change our values to be
sustainable. Sustainable living can be achieved when we combine our passions with sustainability.
Elizabeth Mrema is passionate about law, and has an expertise in environmental law. She explains
how environmental law has developed, and how governments must change the way they protect the
environment. The government 's role in protecting the environment became apparent in the 1930's
when laws were created to preserve flora and fauna

Environmental Fundamentals
Introduction
Environmental science is defined as the study of the environment and the interconnecting systems it
contains, furthermore, the way people interact with their natural surroundings and use natural
resources (wise geek, 2013). Scientist in this field is highly interdisciplinary and extremely diverse,
for example, a scientist might study volcanoes or climate change. This essay will cover the
following; the definition of environmental science, the relationship between science and technology
and how it affects environmental problems; the concept of environmental sustainability and why it
should be studied; how human...show more content...
Environmental Sustainability
Environmental sustainability is the process of making sure current processes of interaction with the
environment are pursued with the idea of keeping the environment as pristine as naturally possible
based on ideal–seeking behavior (Wikipedia, 2010). What makes environmental sustainability so
important is that it demands that society designs activities to meet human needs while indefinitely
preserving the life support systems of the planet (Wikipedia, 2010). Human consumption can only
use the nature's resources at a rate that can be replenished naturally.
Human Values affecting Society
The most devastating environmental change of all is the loss of biodiversity. The rate of species
extinction has remained at one species per million per year, furthermore, the accelerating destruction
of habitats throughout the world leads to projections of the loss of two–thirds of all species on earth
by the end of this century, and millions of years to recover from the Cretaceous period
(mindfully.org, 2013). As individuals, we obtain our food, directly or indirectly from plants, for
example, plant our primary use of medicines. Biodiversity also determines the properties of
communities and ecosystems, which capture energy from the sun. The world is less resilient, more
homogeneous, less interesting, and with fewer opportunities for our descendants and ourselves:
where the process reaches

Should we keep the Environmental Protection Agency? The EPA is the environmental protection
agency and they deal with keeping the environment clean and they enforce the laws to keep it clean.
The agency was put together by President Richard Nixon on December 2, 1970. He put them
together to enforce the fines, sanctions and other measures. Their headquarters is in Washington
D.C.The Environmental Protection Agency always has people wondering where they get the money,
what they will change, and how they help the world. Bill Clinton elected the head of the
environmental protection agency when he was elected and he chose Florida's secretary of
environmental regulations. To start off, President Bill Clinton elected Carol Browner to run the
environmental protection agency (Carol M. Browner 50). Carol Browner sticks up to what she
feels is important for today's society. To continue, Browner won her role by getting her respect
gained in 2 cases as Florida's secretary of environmental regulations (Carol M. Browner 50).
Browner was standing her ground when the federal government went after Florida to restore the
everglades. Lastly, Roosevelt and Pinchot were focused on the wise and efficient use of natural
resources (Geary 226). Roosevelt and Pinchot did whatever they needed to get more information on
natural resources. Bill Clinton chose Carol M. Browner because he knew that she would do her
best in this position and with all of her experience for this position and also Roosevelt wanted to
make the environment better for today's society and also for all of the societies to still come. The
Environmental Protective Agency works hard to make the environment better and they also work
hard to get enough money to fund it. According to multiple reports President Lyndon Johnson, "took
an interest in preservationist issues" (Girard 100). President Johnson was interested in the
Environmental Protection Agency and wanted to do whatever it was to be a part of it. To continue, a
case of environmental policy development, insufficient evidence to the benefit that environmental
goods provide to society and to see if it cost–benefit analysis against environmental protection

During and since World War II the United States has produced millions of tons of toxic wastes during
the manufacturing and processing of products. These hazards were often left abandoned and no one
really paid attention to their effect on our environment. In the 1980s Congress established a
Superfund Program. It was left for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to administer the
superfund program, to find these hazardous sites, investigate and determine the worst ones, and
then clean up those sites across the United States. Over 15,000 sites were identified and 1,400
were named to the National Priorities List (NPL). One of the towns was Picher Oklahoma named
in the Tar Creek Superfund Site. Picher and the neighboring towns covering over a 50 square mile
area became known as the Tar Creek Superfund Site and were officially put on the NPL on 8
September 1983 ("challenge posed to children's health by mixtures of toxic waste: the Tar Creek
Superfund Site as a case–study," n.d.). All of the information was finally out. The hazards were
known. It was time for the clean up to begin. Where do you begin when a problem is this large? The
Environmental Protection Agency was tasked to take the lead in the clean–up. It was easy to identify
the hazards: contaminated water, contaminated soil, possible area collapse, and the lead laced chat
piles. To begin the Superfund site cleanup the EPA started with monitoring of the surface water, acid
mine water discharge, and

ENVIRONMENTAL LAW 1. To what extent have the principles of environmental law been
incorporated in the Environmental Protection Act 2000 20TH MARCH, 2004. Introduction The
environment is made up of the physical, biological and human elements. These three are different
facets of one and the same environment. Not only in recent years, the human environment has
begun to impinge and burden the physical and biological environment. It is only in recent years
that the public has been made aware of the seriousness of the matter. This awareness, has, not only
led to changes in local legislation, but also to changes in the way the problem is approached. It is

Sovereignty over natural resources and the environment in general In modern international law,
permanent sovereignty over natural resources has come to entail duties as well as rights. There has
been an evolution of permanent sovereignty from a political claim to a principle of international law.
This principle led to debates on people's rights, nationalization, and environmental conservation. The
right of peoples and nations to permanent sovereignty over their natural wealth and resources must
be exercised in the interest of their national development and of the well–being of the people of the
State concerned. The promotion of this principle was the natural manifestation of the ever–present
fear of the developing countries, that the Western World would continue exploiting their natural
resources without conceding them a just and equitable share. This principle[2] was implemented in
our law and is found in both sections 3 and 4[3]. The principle states that the environment is a res
communis and thus should be enjoyed by all. The government as the bonus pater familias is
entrusted with the protection of this resource. Section 3 is the best example of this principle, stating:
"It shall be the duty of everyone together with the government to protect the environment and to
assist in the taking of preventive and remedial measures to protect the environment and manage
natural resources in a sustainable manner[4]." The polluter–pays principle

Sustainable development that allows the present generation to meet our current needs, without
compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. In other words, sustainable
development is a inseparable system of economic, social, resource and protection of environmental
which not only can attain the objective of economic development, but also it can protect the natural
resources of atmospheric, freshwater, marine and environment. It can make the future generations
live and work in peace and environmental protection. Sustainable development has the connection
with environmental protection, but it cannot be equated with environmental protection.
environmental protection is one of the important aspect of environmental protection. The core of
sustainable development is development, but the premise of social and economic development is
controlling of population strictly, improving the quality of people, protecting the environment and
using the resources permanently. There are 5 main points of sustainable development nowadays: 1.
the support of development, 2. the cleanness of water, 3. the green trade, 4. the exploitation of
energy, 5. the protection of environment. Specifically, the support of development is that developed
countries enlarge the economic assistance to the developing countries. The proportion of the
assistance should reach 0.7% of GDP. 2. the cleanness of water means that economizing the water

Earth and Her Problems In today's society we face many major problems such as poverty, free trade
complications, human rights issues, and environmental issues. However in the world many people
deny that we face environmental problems, and state that it is not our main problem, when in fact it
is a leading problem slowly destroying all life on this planet. Environmental issues are continuing to
threaten our world, but many organizations such as EPA are working to solve many of the major
environmental problems.
Environmental issues are simply any sort of problem that is damaging our environment. Some of the
major environmental problems are global warming, pollution, overpopulation, GMO's, and climate
change. Global warming is one of the most

Research Question: What are some of the measures that need to be implemented by the Jamaican
Government to protect endangered animal species?
Introduction:
"The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be measured by the way its animals are
treated." This proclamation that is attributed to the great Mahatma Gandhi has frighteningly opposed
the graphic and upsetting images of slaughtered, abused and neglected animals that are so often seen
in newspapers and on social media. Animals play a very essential role in our environment. They

Deforestation, burning and bulldozing of their habitat must be prevented or minimized. Moreover,
the government can construct more national parks, wildlife preserves and nature reserves so that
endangered species can be free from negative human interference. These places allow endangered
animal to have a suitable habitat, which will accelerate their survival rate. All animal life is
important and worth protecting because they help to maintain an equilibrium in the ecosystem.
II.Secondly, teaching animal welfare in schools should be employed as the primary tool to execute
protection of endangered animals in our Jamaican society; since not everyone is aware that some
animals are at risk of extinction.
A.Teaching animal welfare will educate the active and passive abusers about animal protection so
that they can implement better measures to protect endangered species.
B.According to Phillips (2009) teaching animal welfare in schools will result in an improvement in
animal wellbeing. Thus, the use of education is an effective avenue to achieve an improvement in
the treatment and care of endangered

Over the past few decades, technologies have made a few great contributions to the environmental
protection. Renewable technologies have reduced the demand of fossil fuel; computer technologies
have enabled paperless office into reality and thus decreasing the number of trees used to produce
paper. Therefore, I have come in to believe that technologies will serve as a major role in protecting
the environment, both in the present and future. However, due to certain limitations like political
agenda in the current globalized world, the role of technologies may be suppressed and may only be
fulfilled in the future. Current Perspective

They have allowed us to glimpse the capability of today's technologies to protect our environment
through substituting other environmentally–unfriendly but yet essential products. Adding to that, the
creation of recycling technologies such as Reverse Osmosis (RO) that separated human waste from
the water and the Twin–Chamber Melting Furnace (TCF) that recycled aluminum has proven to us
the potential these technologies have in minimizing the environmental threats. By utilizing these
technologies, environments can be better protected from dangers such as arsenic pollution.
But everything has two–dimensions and that is true for technology as well. One of the greatest
problems to such inability of the current technologies to protect our environment is the insufficient
energy generated from the renewable technologies. According to his book Sustainable Energy
without Hot Air, David JC Mackay has made it clear that the amount of energy generated by
renewable energy technologies can only satisfy the need for Britain if it were country–sized. This
means that even developed country will rely heavily on burning of "black gold" such as oil and
coal to produce energy for its daily consumption and so, it will be even more worrisome for the
developing countries with a greater energy needs. Therefore, environmental issues such as acid rains

The Importance Of Environmental Protection
Introduction and Background Check
Environmental protection is an important and interesting subject because of its sensitivity as far as
the quality of life is concerned. The matter to do with the environmental conservation and protection
has become a topic of concern all over the world as nations seek the solution to the degrading
environment. It is globally accepted that the current trends in the quality of environment are wanting
and call for sustainable development through global governance. Global Governance refers to the
political collaboration and cooperation between nations with the objective of finding favorable and
lasting solutions to problems affecting one country, countries or extensive geographical region.
Majority nations have joined hands to discuss possibilities and ways that environmental conservation
and protection can be realized. They have continued to give this matter an upfront consideration
owing to its importance and sensitivity. TheUnited Nations, through the United Nations
Environmental Program UNEP, guides the developing nations undertaking development projects that
have been identified to be a threat to the quality of the environment (Desai, 2012). It is clear that
environment is life and without it, there will be no life. The UNEP, a branch of United Nations is
obligated to carry out and executing functions that help to conserve the environment in the
developing nations.

humans are corroding the environment at a very high pace. Each individual has a responsibility
towards the environment, as we all are an integral part of the nature. The ethical issues we are facing
towards the nature and environment will depict our future and our future generation's potential. The
ecological and the human health concerns should be the top priority as the extreme use of fossils

from china or continue using the toxic substances like phosphate and polyethylene terephthalate.
The company's principle is to provide natural and least harmful product and in this case exporting
from China would be the right decision as outsourcing cost of PLA would be far less in the long
run. The product is inclined to possess genetically modified organisms and consumer would be made

There are all kinds of retailers and buyers and considering the reputation of the company in such a

Importance Of Protecting The Environment Essay
Our environment undoubtedly has many things we can use to benefit our everyday lives. Even if
our environment is not in tip–top shape, we need to start taking care of it better. If we don't many
things will happen. These things include plants dying, animals going extinct, air becoming polluted,
coral reefs dying, and water rapidly coming contaminated. Another problem our environment has to
face, overcome, or adapt too is Global Warming. Global Warming has and will continue to impact our
environment worldwide if we do not begin taking immediate action and do something to protect our
environment.
Protecting our environment is indeed the first action that should be taken. Protecting the
environment should take place locally and globally in my opinion. There are many things that our
local environment could do that would have have a tremendous impact on our environment that
genuinely would not take oodles of effort. A few of these could be as easy as recycling soda cans,
old school or work papers, and glass bottles and taking them to a local recycling center. When you
recycle you are reusing things or making them into new things. Two more examples would be
hosting or participating in a highway clean up, or planting a community garden at a park. Globally,
humans are responsible for Greenhouse Gasses, pollution, and fossil fuel shortages. Globally, if
everyone pitched in just a little bit, greenhouse gas emissions could go down drastically. The way we
could cut these emissions

Abstract
Environment protection is a country's fundamental policy. Globalization has encouraged TNCs to
move from their mother countries to hosr countries in pursuit of more profit. This has caused serious
pollution problems. To maintain their benefits, TNCs are take strategies and using tactics to
influence the developing countries' environmental policy making. They always succeed just because
of their own political power behind their financial strength. This paper explores how and why
transnational corporations seek to influence host countries' environmental policy, and explains what
is the source of their strong political power, and discuss how TNCs can play a positive role in
environmental protection.
TNCs' environmental responsibilities are becoming particularly a matter of urgent concerns, heavy
emphasis and worthy research. All corporates should be theoretically obligated to fullfil their social
accountabilities including the environmental ones because their manufacturing and managing
activities impact on the environment, but TNCs are playing a more crucial role in their host
countries' sustainable development because of their massive sizes and powerful strength. They can
cast the governments aside and have the power to move all or part of their business overseas. They
should not treat the host countries as their pollution pouring zones and profit from overseas weak
environment.
A transnational corporation differs from a traditional multinational corporation in that

People with degrees in this field can be employed by local, state or federal governments. It is also
likely to be hired by an organization such as the EPA( the

It is estimated that "2,200 new jobs (will be established) between 2000–2010." (Easton 36) The

Environment Protection Essay

  • 1. Environmental Protection Agency Essay 1)When was the environmental protection agency (EPA) formed? –1970 What events prompted its formation? –The U.S. was rocked by a series of waste land toxic materials, the earth's automatic, self–cleansing, life support systems became increasingly threatened and consequently people from all walks of life and from every part of the political spectrum were expressing their anxieties on the streets and this happened to b the largest public American demonstration ever seen in America. Hence prompting President Richard Nixon transmitted Reorganization Plan No. 3 to the United States Congress by executive order, creating the EPA as a single, independent agency from a number of smaller arms of different federal agencies. 2)How did...show more content... –The citizen suit provision of the Clean Water Actis an important tool to protect and improve rivers, creeks, streams, and wetlands especially as state agencies may not have the resources to conduct regular water quality monitoring on every water body. Citizen involvement in monitoring and reporting pollution problems is key to watershed protection; hereby helping the government enforce the laws. 4)The expression "canary in the coal mine" means an early warning of danger. (Coal miners would carry canaries or small animals with them into mines to detect deadly but odorless and tasteless methane gas.) a)To what does the expression "canary in the coal mine' apply in poisoned waters? I will say that as much as the expression "Canary in the coal mine" implies an early warning of danger in mines so does it in water too. In this case the fish directly helps us know the extent to which our ecological sphere is damaged, and helps humans to take the necessary precautions to save the environment. 5)Twenty million Americans took to the streets for the first earth day in 1970 as a result of pollution they could see an smell: the Cuyahoga river in Cleveland burned, with flames that towered eight stories high; the 1969 oil spill in Santa Barbara closed virtually all the beaches in southern California; people had declared Lake Erie dead. a)How according to the film, have both pollution and people's reaction to Earth day

  • 3. The Protection Of The Environment Introduction Information and public participation play an important role in the protection of the environment. To that end they have become rights which are protected internationally, continentally and domestically, ensuring that all citizens and organizations are able to play an active role in the management of the environmental at all levels. By enabling public participation, governments are inevitably providing transparency in governance and therefore reinforcing the legislative and institutional safeguards that have been put in place to protect the environment. It is important that some level of transparency is available regarding environmental decisions in order to allow the public be aware of decision–making procedures, as well the...show more content... Under Principle 10, public participation is a creature of three distinct requirements Firstly, there is a recognition that participation does not occur in a vacuum; rather, it is facilitated by a healthy understanding of the current state of the environment. The Rio Declaration recognized that "at the national level, each individual shall have appropriate access to information concerning the environment that is held by public authorities, including information on hazardous materials and activities in their communities ." As such, there is a responsibility on governments to make available information on the environment and the current risks faced to the citizens. The Rio Declaration states that "states shall facilitate and encourage public awareness and participation by making information widely available" . This includes educating local communities as to the environmental risks they specifically face and their sources. It also means providing an adequate mechanism for governmental bodies to provide this information. Secondly when the public is fully aware of the status of their environment, then citizens and interest groups should be provided with "the opportunity to participate in the decision making–process ". Individuals and organizations should have a say in the drafting of legislation, regulation and guidelines. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. The importance of the environment appears when many disconcerting events throughout the years have emerged: tsunami and flooding, drought and starving, pollution, declining animal populations and many others. Looking behind these events is make us realize that we have caused irreversible damaged, through our daily behaviors. We now live in a modern, consumerist and largely urban existence throughout the developed world and we consume a lot of natural resources every day. ENVS course focuses on understanding cause and effect of social, economic and environmental impacts between our need and our product technologically and economically, and how to protect the environments in which we and others live. In ENVS class we do not learn just about the environment, but also about our health as a society in ensuring that no people or areas of life suffer as a result of, and also about examining the longer–term effects of the human activities and asking questions about how it improved and to ensure the quality of life for this and future generations. Teaching students aboutsustainability have been very important. It develops the knowledge, values, and worldviews required to make certain that there's enough for everyone, forever. It's different to other learning areas as it focuses on protecting natural environments and creating an ecologically and socially just world through informed action. • 5. The Problem Of Environmental Protection Essay Theodore Roosevelt had once said, "The nation behaves well if it treats the natural resources as assets which it must turn over to the next generation increased, and not impaired in value". These words have resonated since and have been an example as to why it is our duty as inhabitants of this planet to provide protection to the ever so fragile environment. But what is Environmental protection exactly? Well it is one of the most important, and expensive problems businesses and society are facing today. Why you may ask? Since the industrial age all the countries around the world have been burning an assortment of fuel to power factories, vehicles, heat homes, and even to cook with and when these fuels are burned they emit carbon dioxide and various other chemicals which over time add up and take a very long time to breakdown. As a result they trap heat from the sun in the earth's atmosphere raising the global temperature and causing a domino effect on the environment. Likewise companies produce hazardous waste and dump them illegally in waters which kills vast amounts of marine life. Although laws are in place to protect the planet, inventions are slowly being created to provide alternative sources of energy and agencies already exist to protect the environment. However it is our duty as people in a society to act on our own by demanding for our government to show greater concern for the environment by reforming environmental protection laws with stricter guide lines, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Living sustainably isn 't always easy. It seems that every aspect of life can be looked at from a sustainable perspective, and when trying to reduce your ecological footprint this can be very overwhelming. Previously, I believed that our values must be redefined to live sustainably, However, this series of lecture reflections made me realize that instead of changing our values to live sustainably, we must apply our current values in a sustainable way! Elizabeth Mrema is an environmental activist who uses her passion of law to help sustain the environment. Sharon Clark is a principle at the office of the Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development (CESD), and uses her background in political science to examine the government 's impact on the environment. Finally, graduates of Dalhousie's Sustainability program explain where their degree in sustainability has taken them. Through the stories of people who have applied sustainability to things they are passionate about, I have realized that we do not have to change our values to be sustainable. Sustainable living can be achieved when we combine our passions with sustainability. Elizabeth Mrema is passionate about law, and has an expertise in environmental law. She explains how environmental law has developed, and how governments must change the way they protect the environment. The government 's role in protecting the environment became apparent in the 1930's when laws were created to preserve flora and fauna Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Environmental Science Essay Environmental Fundamentals Laura Jackson Env/100 April 8, 2013 JOHN ENSWORTH Environmental Fundamentals Introduction Environmental science is defined as the study of the environment and the interconnecting systems it contains, furthermore, the way people interact with their natural surroundings and use natural resources (wise geek, 2013). Scientist in this field is highly interdisciplinary and extremely diverse, for example, a scientist might study volcanoes or climate change. This essay will cover the following; the definition of environmental science, the relationship between science and technology and how it affects environmental problems; the concept of environmental sustainability and why it should be studied; how human...show more content... Environmental Sustainability Environmental sustainability is the process of making sure current processes of interaction with the environment are pursued with the idea of keeping the environment as pristine as naturally possible based on ideal–seeking behavior (Wikipedia, 2010). What makes environmental sustainability so important is that it demands that society designs activities to meet human needs while indefinitely preserving the life support systems of the planet (Wikipedia, 2010). Human consumption can only use the nature's resources at a rate that can be replenished naturally. Human Values affecting Society The most devastating environmental change of all is the loss of biodiversity. The rate of species extinction has remained at one species per million per year, furthermore, the accelerating destruction of habitats throughout the world leads to projections of the loss of two–thirds of all species on earth by the end of this century, and millions of years to recover from the Cretaceous period (mindfully.org, 2013). As individuals, we obtain our food, directly or indirectly from plants, for example, plant our primary use of medicines. Biodiversity also determines the properties of communities and ecosystems, which capture energy from the sun. The world is less resilient, more homogeneous, less interesting, and with fewer opportunities for our descendants and ourselves: where the process reaches Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Should we keep the Environmental Protection Agency? The EPA is the environmental protection agency and they deal with keeping the environment clean and they enforce the laws to keep it clean. The agency was put together by President Richard Nixon on December 2, 1970. He put them together to enforce the fines, sanctions and other measures. Their headquarters is in Washington D.C.The Environmental Protection Agency always has people wondering where they get the money, what they will change, and how they help the world. Bill Clinton elected the head of the environmental protection agency when he was elected and he chose Florida's secretary of environmental regulations. To start off, President Bill Clinton elected Carol Browner to run the environmental protection agency (Carol M. Browner 50). Carol Browner sticks up to what she feels is important for today's society. To continue, Browner won her role by getting her respect gained in 2 cases as Florida's secretary of environmental regulations (Carol M. Browner 50). Browner was standing her ground when the federal government went after Florida to restore the everglades. Lastly, Roosevelt and Pinchot were focused on the wise and efficient use of natural resources (Geary 226). Roosevelt and Pinchot did whatever they needed to get more information on natural resources. Bill Clinton chose Carol M. Browner because he knew that she would do her best in this position and with all of her experience for this position and also Roosevelt wanted to make the environment better for today's society and also for all of the societies to still come. The Environmental Protective Agency works hard to make the environment better and they also work hard to get enough money to fund it. According to multiple reports President Lyndon Johnson, "took an interest in preservationist issues" (Girard 100). President Johnson was interested in the Environmental Protection Agency and wanted to do whatever it was to be a part of it. To continue, a case of environmental policy development, insufficient evidence to the benefit that environmental goods provide to society and to see if it cost–benefit analysis against environmental protection (Geary 226). • 9. During and since World War II the United States has produced millions of tons of toxic wastes during the manufacturing and processing of products. These hazards were often left abandoned and no one really paid attention to their effect on our environment. In the 1980s Congress established a Superfund Program. It was left for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to administer the superfund program, to find these hazardous sites, investigate and determine the worst ones, and then clean up those sites across the United States. Over 15,000 sites were identified and 1,400 were named to the National Priorities List (NPL). One of the towns was Picher Oklahoma named in the Tar Creek Superfund Site. Picher and the neighboring towns covering over a 50 square mile area became known as the Tar Creek Superfund Site and were officially put on the NPL on 8 September 1983 ("challenge posed to children's health by mixtures of toxic waste: the Tar Creek Superfund Site as a case–study," n.d.). All of the information was finally out. The hazards were known. It was time for the clean up to begin. Where do you begin when a problem is this large? The Environmental Protection Agency was tasked to take the lead in the clean–up. It was easy to identify the hazards: contaminated water, contaminated soil, possible area collapse, and the lead laced chat piles. To begin the Superfund site cleanup the EPA started with monitoring of the surface water, acid mine water discharge, and Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Introduction The environment is made up of the physical, biological and human elements. These three are different facets of one and the same environment. Not only in recent years, the human environment has begun to impinge and burden the physical and biological environment. It is only in recent years that the public has been made aware of the seriousness of the matter. Sovereignty over natural resources and the environment in general In modern international law, permanent sovereignty over natural resources has come to entail duties as well as rights. There has been an evolution of permanent sovereignty from a political claim to a principle of international law. This principle led to debates on people's rights, nationalization, and environmental conservation. The right of peoples and nations to permanent sovereignty over their natural wealth and resources must be exercised in the interest of their national development and of the well–being of the people of the State concerned. The promotion of this principle was the natural manifestation of the ever–present fear of the developing countries, that the Western World would continue exploiting their natural resources without conceding them a just and equitable share. This principle[2] was implemented in our law and is found in both sections 3 and 4[3]. The principle states that the environment is a res communis and thus should be enjoyed by all. The government as the bonus pater familias is entrusted with the protection of this resource. Section 3 is the best example of this principle, stating: "It shall be the duty of everyone together with the government to protect the environment and to assist in the taking of preventive and remedial measures to protect the environment and manage natural resources in a sustainable manner[4]." In other words, sustainable development is a inseparable system of economic, social, resource and protection of environmental which not only can attain the objective of economic development, but also it can protect the natural resources of atmospheric, freshwater, marine and environment. It can make the future generations live and work in peace and environmental protection. Sustainable development has the connection with environmental protection, but it cannot be equated with environmental protection. environmental protection is one of the important aspect of environmental protection. The core of sustainable development is development, but the premise of social and economic development is controlling of population strictly, improving the quality of people, protecting the environment and using the resources permanently. There are 5 main points of sustainable development nowadays: 1. the support of development, 2. the cleanness of water, 3. the green trade, 4. the exploitation of energy, 5. the protection of environment. Specifically, the support of development is that developed countries enlarge the economic assistance to the developing countries. The proportion of the assistance should reach 0.7% of GDP. 2. the cleanness of water means that economizing the water for half of the population who are short of Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Broad Topic: Environmental Protection/Nature Conservation Narrow topic: Animal protection Research Question: What are some of the measures that need to be implemented by the Jamaican Government to protect endangered animal species? Introduction: "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be measured by the way its animals are treated." This proclamation that is attributed to the great Mahatma Gandhi has frighteningly opposed the graphic and upsetting images of slaughtered, abused and neglected animals that are so often seen in newspapers and on social media. Animals play a very essential role in our environment. They assist with the maintenance of biodiversity in nature. Moreover, many animal species are in danger of extinction...show more content... Deforestation, burning and bulldozing of their habitat must be prevented or minimized. Moreover, the government can construct more national parks, wildlife preserves and nature reserves so that endangered species can be free from negative human interference. These places allow endangered animal to have a suitable habitat, which will accelerate their survival rate. All animal life is important and worth protecting because they help to maintain an equilibrium in the ecosystem. II.Secondly, teaching animal welfare in schools should be employed as the primary tool to execute protection of endangered animals in our Jamaican society; since not everyone is aware that some animals are at risk of extinction. A.Teaching animal welfare will educate the active and passive abusers about animal protection so that they can implement better measures to protect endangered species. B.According to Phillips (2009) teaching animal welfare in schools will result in an improvement in animal wellbeing. • 14. Introduction Over the past few decades, technologies have made a few great contributions to the environmental protection. Renewable technologies have reduced the demand of fossil fuel; computer technologies have enabled paperless office into reality and thus decreasing the number of trees used to produce paper. Therefore, I have come in to believe that technologies will serve as a major role in protecting the environment, both in the present and future. However, due to certain limitations like political agenda in the current globalized world, the role of technologies may be suppressed and may only be fulfilled in the future. Current Perspective One of the most significant technological advancement today that aimed to protect our...show more content... They have allowed us to glimpse the capability of today's technologies to protect our environment through substituting other environmentally–unfriendly but yet essential products. Adding to that, the creation of recycling technologies such as Reverse Osmosis (RO) that separated human waste from the water and the Twin–Chamber Melting Furnace (TCF) that recycled aluminum has proven to us the potential these technologies have in minimizing the environmental threats. By utilizing these technologies, environments can be better protected from dangers such as arsenic pollution. But everything has two–dimensions and that is true for technology as well. One of the greatest problems to such inability of the current technologies to protect our environment is the insufficient energy generated from the renewable technologies. According to his book Sustainable Energy without Hot Air, David JC Mackay has made it clear that the amount of energy generated by renewable energy technologies can only satisfy the need for Britain if it were country–sized. This means that even developed country will rely heavily on burning of "black gold" such as oil and coal to produce energy for its daily consumption and so, it will be even more worrisome for the developing countries with a greater energy needs. Therefore, environmental issues such as acid rains and Get more content on HelpWriting.net

I go on to examine how the rules of the WTO have affected international environmental governance through ignoring environmental protection and labour rights. I compare from one angle the effects of GATT to trade liberalization. I use the example of the endangered sea turtle to show how the United States intended to protect the environment but was stopped by WTO rules. In conclusion, the WTO rules should change and be more democratic and appeal to environmental protection. The World trade organization(WTO) was founded January 1, 1995 . This has been considered to be more powerful than environmental regimes which can reduce the hard earned gains in the environmental arena. The Importance Of Environmental Protection Introduction and Background Check Environmental protection is an important and interesting subject because of its sensitivity as far as the quality of life is concerned. The matter to do with the environmental conservation and protection has become a topic of concern all over the world as nations seek the solution to the degrading environment. It is globally accepted that the current trends in the quality of environment are wanting and call for sustainable development through global governance. Global Governance refers to the political collaboration and cooperation between nations with the objective of finding favorable and lasting solutions to problems affecting one country, countries or extensive geographical region. Majority nations have joined hands to discuss possibilities and ways that environmental conservation and protection can be realized. They have continued to give this matter an upfront consideration owing to its importance and sensitivity. TheUnited Nations, through the United Nations Environmental Program UNEP, guides the developing nations undertaking development projects that have been identified to be a threat to the quality of the environment (Desai, 2012). PLA proves to be high performing and cost effective substitute to many toxic chemical harmful to the environment and humans. The ethical dilemma facing the company is whether to export the PLA from china or continue using the toxic substances like phosphate and polyethylene terephthalate. The company's principle is to provide natural and least harmful product and in this case exporting from China would be the right decision as outsourcing cost of PLA would be far less in the long run. The product is inclined to possess genetically modified organisms and consumer would be made full aware of this information as they have right to correct information about the product. The product with PLA material would specify the substance and content for the customer satisfaction. • 18. Importance Of Protecting The Environment Essay Our environment undoubtedly has many things we can use to benefit our everyday lives. Even if our environment is not in tip–top shape, we need to start taking care of it better. If we don't many things will happen. These things include plants dying, animals going extinct, air becoming polluted, coral reefs dying, and water rapidly coming contaminated. Another problem our environment has to face, overcome, or adapt too is Global Warming. The way we could cut these emissions Get more content on HelpWriting.net

TNCs' environmental responsibilities are becoming particularly a matter of urgent concerns, heavy emphasis and worthy research. All corporates should be theoretically obligated to fullfil their social accountabilities including the environmental ones because their manufacturing and managing activities impact on the environment, but TNCs are playing a more crucial role in their host countries' sustainable development because of their massive sizes and powerful strength. They can cast the governments aside and have the power to move all or part of their business overseas. They should not treat the host countries as their pollution pouring zones and profit from overseas weak environment.
