Reconciling Conflicting Data Curation Actions: Transparency Through Argument...
Analysis of survey monkey results
1. The first question gives us insight into the type of
age the people who answered our survey were, all of the people who
actually answered our survey were between the ages of 15 and 16,
this may be to do with the availability of technology for people of this
age group.
This may influence our decision to create our target
audience based around this age group as we have results about what
this age group of people enjoy and don’t enjoy to watch.
Age is a very important factor for us and from this
we have to deduce where we want our BBFC certificate to fall, we
only started the survey on 15 so that if our film fell under the category
of a 15 we would still be able to use all of the results from this survey
as they would still be a possible audience member.
Age also helps us to create a product which will be
intriguing for a stereotyped age group, for example middle aged men
stereotypically like action adventure films as they offer escapism from
their work and other factors of everyday life. They will also aspire to
be like the main character of the movie.
The second question allows us to see who actually
answered our survey gender wise, from the results we can see that
2/3 of the results came from females.
This is okay because we are pretty sure our target
audience will be focused on females, this means we will have to use
thing which are stereotypically associated witch what girls find
interesting.
Gender is a very important part of creating a
product for an audience because there are certain stereotypes which
are known for each gender. For example girls like romantic films as an
aspiration purpose. Whereas, men are more likely to like action films
or similar.
Although girls may like action films they are not
intended to be interesting for them as they are relying on a male
audience to form the majority of the viewership. Most times movies
will include something which will be interesting for a different
member of society, for example an action adventure will have a
romantic storyline to attract audience viewership.
2. Ethnicity is not as big of a factor for audience these
days, however it is still taken into consideration. An example would be
that something like a gardening show is aimed at an older white
audience as according to stereotypes old white people enjoy
gardening compared to other ethnicities.
The majority of our survey was filled out with people
who were white, we will probably put this categorisation into target
audience as we are thinking of doing a fairy tale based story and
according to stereotype white females will have grown up with such
stories compared to a different category of person.
Although as said ethnicity is not as much of a
contributing factor as our society of so diverse it would be difficult or
seen as politically incorrect to do so.
The fourth question is all about how often our audience go to
the cinema. Surprisingly the highest selected was ‘once a year’, this is both
surprising and not shocking. It is interesting as going to the cinema, especially for
young people, is something they will do for an activity with their friends however
it is not so surprising because of streaming and downloading of video illegally
online. This is especially true of the younger generation as they have easy assess
and understanding of the internet and do not, for the most part, have a job, and
so cannot afford for the cinema.
Again we were shocked that the next selected option was
‘more than once every two weeks’. This gives us a real mix of how the audience
will interact with our product. We will both have to make it want to be watched
through cinema, perhaps with the adding of technological developments such as
3D. We will also have to conceder how to make up for the lost revenue which is
caused by the streaming of products perhaps through merchandise.
3. This question allows us to see who those who go to
the cinema go to the cinema with. People mostly go with their friends
however some go with their boyfriend / girlfriend. These both mean
they go to the cinema with people of their age group. This means we
can make our product very focused on one age group as we do not
need to consider older parents or siblings who may be older or
younger.
4. The sixth question allows us to see what is the favourite genre of film
for the audience. From the results we can see that the most selected was ‘fantasy’
which is good as we are most probably going to create a fantasy film for our opening
sequence. This means that our movie will be instantly interesting for our audience if we
follow the given conventions for this genre.
The next selected option was horror, we may contain elements of
horror within our opening sequence to capture the attention of those who prefer this
genre, this will make our product interesting for a wider range of people and therefore
more people will want to go and see it.
The last question is similar in the fact that is about what genre of film people do
not like as much. The most selected option is ‘Crime’, ‘Musical’ and ‘Western’. This
purely means we should avoid things which are connotations of these movie genres. As
you can see fantasy has no votes for being someone’s least favourite genre which means
we are pretty safe with picking fantasy as it is a like genre by the target audience.
