Essay about The Evolution of Advertising
THE EVOLUTION OF ADVERTISING
Advertisements are a huge part of our everyday lives. We see different types of ads everywhere we look; while watching television, listening to the
radio, riding on the bus and even walking around your school campus. It seems like the whole world is being flooded by advertisements.
Advertising techniques have changed and along with it, the impact they have on each individual's mind. While there are some similarities between the
different kinds of advertisements we see today, there are also many differences. Advertising has also become more unethical than it was in, let's say,
the 50s. Not all advertisements are brainless; there are a few that are even creative and fun and just pull the target audience in by ... Show more content

You agree to something that is supposed to be "free" but once you give them your credit card number they will start charging you for something that
was supposed to be free all along; when you go back and check the fine print, you realize you were supposed to pay for your "free trial". The same
goes with products you buy in the store, they promise you one thing but when you get home and open the package, you find that it's very different to
the product they advertise on TV or the radio.
There have been many advertising techniques over the past 50 years or so, but one of these changes is the adaption of ads to the shifting mind sets of
people over time. An example of this previous statement is FolgersВ® Coffee. In the 1960s FolgersВ® launched an entire series of commercials which
were demeaning towards women. The husbands in the commercials always had something witty and humiliating to say about the wives' coffee, in one
of the commercials the husband even goes on to say that the secretaries at his office made better coffee; the wives, sad and defeated, talked to a friend
about the problem, prompting the friend to suggest she use FolgersВ®. The commercial always ended with the husbands' approval and the wives
feeling satisfied for attending to their husbands' needs and wants.
This set of commercials, like many in the 60s, was obviously aimed at the

Blind Ambition In Macbeth
"According to all known laws of aviation, there is no way a bee. . ." A large part of William Shakespeare's genius is attributed to his talent in examining
human nature through his works. By weaving certain themes throughout his plays and poems, Shakespeare indirectly projected messages about the
inherent fallacies of mankind. Such is the case with Macbeth. As classic literature goes, there are numerous themes found throughout the script. One of
the most prevalent (if not the most prevalent) themes is that of blind ambition. It's justifiable to say that blind ambition is the driving force of the
plot. Nearly every major event in Macbeth was instigated, or, at the very least, influenced by various characters' ambitious tendencies. The characters'
decisions, their influence over other characters, and moral degradation all exemplified the effect that blind ambition had. As stated, Macbeth displays
blind ambition soon after hearing the Weird Sisters' prophesy that he will be the king of Scotland. In Act 1, Scene 4, Macbeth states: "Let not light
see my black and deep desires" (Macbeth from Folger Digital Library I. iv. 58). In that line, Macbeth explicitly acknowledges his ambition and the fact
that it is malicious. Macbeth's negative intent is considered "blind" ambition since the motives are not to help his nation but rather to bolster his own
power––thus, there is no vision he is trying to fulfill. Action without vision leads to destruction. In the words of the Hebrew

Essay on Gossip and Deceit in Much Ado About Nothing
Gossip and Deceit in Much Ado About Nothing Much Ado About Nothing is primarily a play about gossip. Indeed, the title means a big fuss about a
trifle, and by the end, this is exactly what happens. All accusations will come to nothing, causing the play to end the same way as if they never
occurred at all. Shakespeare brilliantly plays on the meanings of nothing throughout this play. The word "nothing" would actually have been
pronounced "noting" in his time. It can mean worthless, a person of little worth, or also mean everything, in the sense that much ado is made about
everything (Smith). Much of the plot is moved along by characters eavesdropping on a conversation and either misunderstanding what they overhear or
being deceived by... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the prince congratulates Claudio upon Hero's father's approval to marry him he begins to be confused. In fact, it was the Prince wooing Hero
for Claudio at the masked ball. Don John lied to Claudio to create a disturbance at the ball. Don John's malevolent plan to ruin Claudio and Hero's
wedding was to take effect the night before they were to wed. The malicious Don John constructed, or rather misconstructed, the scheme that insinuated
Claudio's belief in Hero's faithlessness. It is Don John who reports to Claudio and Don Pedro that Hero is having an affair, and he who stage–manages
an elaborate charade featuring his own henchman Borachio and an unwitting stand–in for Hero to lend credence to this fiction. Perhaps the most
significant thing to be noted in connection with this deception is that the spectator does not witness the crucial scene in which Claudio overhears the
counterfeit exchanges between Margaret and Borachio that persuade him of Hero's guilt. We learn of this episode only at second hand, when Borachio
boasts of his exploit (Lucking). The spectator of the play watches the Watchman watching Borachio while the latter narrates what he calls his tale
relating how Claudio was inveigled into watching an artificial scene enacting Don John's fiction. Once again, what lies at the heart of this convoluted
recursive machinery is a nothing (a nocturnal tryst between Hero and

Hamlet And Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder In Shakespeare's...
Many people believe Hamlet to be crazy and mad + but his genius in avenging his father's death clearly makes him the sanest and most grounded
character in the entire play. Hamlet's actions are no different than those of some modern–day veterans who suffer from Post–Traumatic Stress Disorder
(PTSD). A normal reaction to an un–normal situation. To make matters appear stranger, he is only trying to do the right thing by finding out about his
father's death based on information from a ghost. The evidence of Hamlet's sanity in act 1, can be can be seen at the beginning of the play when
Hamlet is very honest in his in his actions and thoughts. When his mother states, "Good Hamlet, cast thy nighted color off" (I, ii, 70. Hamlet from
Folger Digital Texts) stating that he is clearly in an over state of mourning for his father's death. She further presses and asks why it "seems" that
he is more bothered by it than most others would be. Hamlet says, "Seems, madam? Nay it is known not seems" (I, ii, 79. Hamlet from Folger
Digital Texts). This is Hamlet saying that he feels exactly how he looks and he is not pretending or crazy because he is able to make that distinction.
Another example can be found in act one where Hamlet clearly speaks with honesty and sanity when he says, "Yea, from the table of my memory I'll
wipe away all trivial, fond records, all saws of books, all forms, all pressures past, that youth and observation copied there, and thy commandment all
alone shall live

Four P's of Marketing and Folgers Coffee
Introduction This Essay will deal with the Four P's of marketing as it relates to Folgers Coffee. It will be demonstrated how the marketing function is
visible in these four areas. It will also be shown how the coffee giant had lost its lead in market share and then recovered it in the mid 1990's. We will
explore how now that Folgers is being operated by Smuckers, the coffee giant has used some clever marketing schemes.
The Four P's
1.Product
2.Price
3.Place (distribution)
4.Promotion
Product In looking at our product, Folgers Coffee, a sure way to see where a product is going sometimes is to look at where it has been. In 1992, Kraft's
brand of coffee, Maxwell House, had gained the lead in market share and appeared to be poised ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sales from restaurants–including Starbucks, Dunkin' Donuts, and McDonald's, which carry premium brews–grew at a compound annual rate of 15.2%
from 2001 to 2006, as supermarket sales rose only marginally. Activist investor Nelson Peltz is pressuring Kraft to divest slow–growing Maxwell
House. But Kraft vows to stick with the $1 billion–a–year brand. Another worry: Only 37% of 18– to 24–year–olds drink coffee, reports the National
Coffee Assn., vs. 60% of those 40 to 59 and 74% of folks over 60. (Crown, 2007)
Price Folgers now finds itself in an era where price–cutting for consumer goods in general is rampant. Consumers are buying cheaper brands and fewer
units of many goods. Consumers have made the most changes so far in high–expenditure, less structural consumables: leisure (including dining out),
shopping, and driving. (Leinwand, Moeller, & Shriram, 2008)
While many consum¬ers will still pay for premium products, super¬markets have had to slash prices on many ordinary items. Part of the reason
for this is the fierce competition they have been receivВ¬ing from such outlets as warehouse clubs. Folgers is a very well–known brand, but not even
the stronВ¬gest brands are safe from the necessity of price–cutting, to which they were formerly immune. In bygone days, owning a strong brand was a
sure road to protected high margins. Low–cost generic products have improved in quality and their sales have skyrocketed, making such moves
unavoidable.

Teen Rebellion In Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet
Teen Rebellion is one of the most popular trends on these days. Also there are too many movies and books about it, like "Romeo & Juliet" by
William Shakespeare. This book(play) can also be compare to the movie "Titanic" for many reasons. The reasons why they are kind of identical
are that both couples were teens and love each other against others. Also because at the end someone dies because of that love. The first reason
why "Titanic" and "Romeo & Juliet" are similar is because in both love stories. their love is against everything and everyone. In "Romeo &
Juliet"the story is about two teens who rebel against its parents and race groups(Library, Folger. "Romeo And Juliet"). In "Titanic" there are also two
teens who love each other against all the people and social classes("Titanic (1997)." IMDb. N. p.). The principal reason why "Titanic" and "Romeo &
Juliet" are kind of the same, is because both have teens loving each other against people, status, classes, races etc.... Show more content on

Ann Folger 's Life Of Rural Domesticity And Christian Service
Ann Folger, originally from a Baptist church has "settled into a life of rural domesticity and Christian service" (103). Inspired by Matthias, Ann had
abandoned her old life to begin a new one under the teachings of Matthias. Ann Folger was so inspired by Matthias that she threw everything away to
follow him. Not only was she inspired by Matthias, but she had lust for him. For all the wrong reasons Ann started followed Matthias only to get close
to him personally. Differently from how Elijah joins Matthias' Kingdom, Ann starts to feel lust towards Matthias which led her to join him. As Matthias
preached about Match spirits and his own spirit, Ann started to feel lustful towards him. When Matthias and Ann began to talk there conversion started
to lead astray, "not only about male government and female perfidy but about match spirits and holy children" (118). At this point Matthias instead of
punishing Ann for being lustful, he encourages her to fall to lust. Ann seeing no wrong in flirting with Matthias only makes it worse because he refuses
to stop it from happening. Van Wagenen describing Ann's true intentions, "she coupled her own faith with her own notions of what was going on,
notions that had to do less with divine patriarchy than with devilish lust" (118). Van Waganen perfectly explains Ann's delusion of faith. She explains
how her own actions is her way of expressing her faith towards Matthias, but only to be blinded by her own imagination. Rather than spreading the

Coffee that is not consumed in a short period of time is thrown out due to it tasting burned. Coffee pot is not cleaned before a fresh pot of coffee is
made. The price paid for a cup of coffee is the same no matter what size of cup used. People do not consistently pay their coffee dues. Pouring coffee
from the pot to the cup creates a messy area. People do not clean their mess. A new pot of coffee is not always started after the last cup has been
poured. Coffee that has been started too late in the day is usually thrown out.
It is possible to solve all of these issues while maintaining the same coffee maker. But the problems will recur. Addressing these recurring issues in the
same manner is not the solution. The solution is to change the method of coffee preparation.
Method Used
Two coffee makers are examined in this report, the current coffee maker used in the office and the proposed replacement model. The current coffee
maker is the Mr. Coffee model FTX43, black and chrome 12–cup programmable coffee maker, originally priced at $70.00 ("Drugstore.com," n.d.). The
proposed replacement coffee maker is the Keurig OfficePro Commercial Coffee Brewer, average price $130.00 ("Staples.com," n.d.). The coffee used
in this report is the same brand for both models. This will enable as fair a comparison as possible. The type of coffee used in the comparison is Folgers

A Literary And Historical Standpoint
Although it is practical from a literary and historical standpoint, object–driven analyses of Shakespeare's First Folio fail to account for, as Brown says,
"the story of the object asserting itself as a thing." By treating the First Folio as only a book meant to be read for information these analyses let it
stagnate in a subject–object binary which leads us to falsely believe that the subject creates knowledge from the object. Or as Brown says, we are
stuck viewing the object as a "code by which our interpretive attention makes them meaningful" (Brown 4). This line of thinking is problematic
because the object then lacks agency. When the object transitions to a thing, the binary no longer applies and we can see that it has knowledge with or
without a subject involved. Additionally, this shift out of the binary allows for the thing to become its own subject. If, as Baudrillard believes "it is the
subject that totalizes the world" (qtd in Brown) then this implies that the thing is not merely passively impacted by the world but actively impacts the
world with its presence.
However, only viewing the First Folio as a thing in opposition to an object also limits our study of it. Instead, I propose that we should examine the
story of an object becoming a thing. Before I further my argument I want to take a moment to fully examine the difference between an object and a
thing and why current scholarship has failed to acknowledge the importance of the First Folio becoming a thing.

William Shakespeare 's Sonnet 30
Shakespeare 's writing about love is exceptionally deep and intensely layered with
numerous implications and utilization of rhyme and metaphors. The power of feeling, the
profundity of thought, and serious creative energy are all to be found in his sonnets.
Shakespeare 's Sonnets clarify the value of human relationships by showing that friendship can
end one's own sadness, that love should be commemorated, and that marriage between true
minds is loyal and consistent.
"But if the while I think on thee, dear friend, / All losses are restored and sorrows end." In
Sonnet 30, a past friendship between two mates ends one's own sadness and selfish sorrows. The
speaker's thoughts and feelings shift greatly throughout Sonnet 30. As the speaker sits alone
peacefully and recalls the past, they get discouraged about everything they had once worked so
hard for. This causes the speaker to sob about this important time squandered. "When to the
sessions of sweet silent thought / I summon up remembrance of things past, / I sigh the lack of
many a thing I sought, / And with old woes new wail my dear time's waste" (1–4) One continues
to sob about damages long over and groan about the loss of numerous things never to be seen
again. The speaker torments themselves to relive every hardship that already had been cried
about previously. Remembering the deaths of valuable companions is a fragile topic for most.
While the speaker sulks in sadness, they recall a dear

What Is Procedural Justice?
Thibaut and Walker (1975) can be rightly considered the pioneers with regards to the concept of procedural justice, as they were the first to point out
how the procedural features of the allo–cative process were important determinants of perceived fairness. In their research about di–spute–resolution
procedures, they described procedural justice as the amount of process control provided to people affected by the procedures and their outcomes; their
emphasis on the topic is justified by the fact that by allowing individuals to control the processes, procedural justice's functioned as a defender of
people's self–interests. Applied to their context of research, they found out that the disputants were more likely to view a procedure as fair and

rough neighborhoods, we have tackled obstacle over obstacle to make it home again. In the end, we have a better knowledge and strength than before.

Not only is it costly to your wallet, but it may be costly to human lives. Space exploration is extremely dangerous due to the lack of information we
have. There have been many unsuccessful launches, in space missions, and re–entries that have ended in disaster. Such missions include: Apollo 1,
Challenger, Apollo 13, and Columbia (The Risks and Dangers of Space Exploration 1). With only these four failed missions, it resulted in a total of
seventeen deaths and three fatal injuries (1). These are just the twenty lives affected in the United States by unsuccessful space missions. "About 5%
of people who have launched have died doing so" (List of Spaceflight–Related Accidents and Incidents 6). In recent years there have been little to no
accidents but there is always the possibility of a death caused by space exploration. Since then we have improved our technologies and consider a
manned missions in our top choices to further our exploration of the universe. Although it is not the best option, it is still a possibility. Many people
in the media are ambitious to send men to explore space. Former President George Bush suggested we should be able to put humans on Mars by the
year 2019 (Newcott 40). Along with previous presidents, current president Barack Obama has stated he would like to send a manned mission to Mars
by the 2030s (Anthony 3). Although many seem convinces this is the way to go, the only purpose we would need to send humans to Mars or to any

Hamlet Character Analysis
Jackie Strom Prof. Scala ENG 113 27 Oct. 2017 Face the real issue, HamletHamlet proves himself a temperamental, twisted character in William
Shakespeare's play, Hamlet. The Prince of Denmark conveys his facetious demeanor with his behavior and sharp tongue, especially in scenes with
Ophelia and Gertrude. Although Hamlet's situation is difficult and easily sympathized by viewers, his aggression should ultimately be focused on his
murderous uncle. Initially the reader can understand Hamlet's anger with Gertrude when she marries his uncle. "O, most wicked speed, to post / with
such dexterity to incestuous sheets," says Hamlet in disgust towards his mother's marriage (1.2.161–12). Gertrude did marry the king's brother quickly
after his death, so any resentment Hamlet feels towards his mother is justified. The reader sympathizes even more with the character when Hamlet says
of the union, "It is not, nor it cannot come to good. / But break, my heart, for I must hold my tongue" (1.2.163–164). It appears that Hamlet is
attempting to be respectful towards his mother, so it's easy to appreciate his character in the beginning. Hamlet seems to be kind towards Ophelia
when Polonius reads Hamlet's love letter. Hamlet professes to Ophelia, "Doubt thou the stars are fire, / Doubt that the sun doth move, / Doubt truth to
be a liar, / But never doubt I love" (2.2. 124–127). Unfortunately, these words towards Ophelia mean nothing. In response to Ophelia returning his love
letters, Hamlet responds with, "I never gave you aught" (3.1.105). Any hint that Hamlet truly loved Ophelia is undermined when he outright denies
writing those letters to her. Hamlet further insults Ophelia when he says to her, "Or if thou wilt needs marry, / marry a fool, for wise men know well
enough what / monsters you make of them" (3.1.149–151). Absolving himself from any accountability for his moody temperament, Hamlet instead puts
the blame on Ophelia. Similar to Ophelia, Gertrude experiences her son's ill demeanor when during their conversation in her bedroom. After killing
Polonius, Gertrude responds with, "O, what rash and bloody deed this is" (3.4.33), a statement which perfectly captures the crime that Hamlet
committed. Again Hamlet takes

Gender Roles During Elizabethan Society
In Elizabethan times, gender roles were dominant in society. Women were regarded as the weaker sex and were taught from birth to cook, clean,
and do similar tasks so they could marry and their husbands would be proud (Ram, Pham, Sok, Hamsafar, and Wilhemsen, "Gender Roles in
Elizabethan Society."). Women were expected to bear children and take great pride in being mothers (Ram, Pham, Sok, Hamsafar, and
Wilhemsen, "Gender Roles in Elizabethan Society."). They had few rights; they could not vote, choose a profession, receive an actual education,
join the army or navy, or generally provide for themselves (Ram, Pham, Sok, Hamsafar, and Wilhemsen, "Gender Roles in Elizabethan Society.").
Men, on the other hand, were to provide for the women in their families, make all decisions, and have ownership of the family's land and home
(Ram, Pham, Sok, Hamsafar, and Wilhemsen, "Gender Roles in Elizabethan Society."; Petit, "A Look at Male Gender Roles in Shakespeare's
Renaissance.").. The men could vote and all actors on stage were men. In general, men had every advantage in that time period (Ram, Pham, Sok,
Hamsafar, and Wilhemsen, "Gender Roles in Elizabethan Society."; Petit, "A Look at Male Gender Roles in Shakespeare's Renaissance."). During
the Elizabethan age, marriages were generally viewed as a business relationship than anything else (Folger, 5). Marriages were arranged only to

Examples Of Deception In Othello
Iago is a master of deception. Despite his cruelty and lack of concern for others, he is able to deceive many because Iago prays on their weaknesses
and lack of trust in virtue and purity, represented by Desdemona. Just as the characters are unable to believe in Iago's true nature–one of evil–, they
also refuse to trust in Desdemona's true nature; had Othello seen either character's true identity, he could have saved their lives. Desdemona proves that
she would give anything to protect and honor her marriage, but despite her whole–hearted commitment to Othello, he betrays her; Shakespeare pits
these two characters–Iago and Desdemona–against each other to show that it is just as difficult to believe in pure good as it is to believe in pure evil.
Desdemona's first sacrifice is marrying Othello at all; to do so she must abandon her status, wealth, and beloved father. Roderigo claims that by
doing so she has, "made a gross revolt; tying her duty, beauty, wit and fortunes in an extravagant and wheeling stranger" (Othello from Folger
Digital Texts). Her entire future relies on her trust in a man she hardly knows and who society has told her is lower than her in every way which
shows how sincere her love for Othello was; she had nothing to gain from their eloping, but did so regardless. However, Othello is not clueless and
knows it is incredibly strange for her to have married him; in "Othello: Incredulity and the Possible", Robert Pack explains that, "He is older than she,
of another race, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

John Caird's Vision for His Production of Hamlet Essay
John Caird's vision for his production of Hamlet was to give it a "suffocatingly religious" atmosphere where "the set was part cathedral, part castle,
part graveyard, part attic" (Bate 202). Together with set designer Tim Hatley, he succeeded. Amy Gamerman of the Wall Street Journal characterized
the set as "dismal" and "vacant–looking." The set was comprised of luggage, suitcases and old trunks that were stacked, torn down and restacked again
in different ways to make different scenes. Presumably this element of the set serves the purpose of reinforcing the idea of Hamlet's journey of
transitioning from a life free of pain to a life fraught with the truth of his father's death (Vivier 323). Unfortunately, Kate Levin of Shakespeare... Show

Russell Beale's Hamlet stood out for his gentleness and sweetness making Horatio's "goodnight sweet prince" (5.2.332) all the more poignant.
Though initially Russell Beale's physique seemed an unnatural choice for the role of Hamlet, in the end his performance was critically acclaimed
by most everyone. Though at the time Russell Beale was forty years old and not the slim young Dane audiences had come to expect, his
performance was one of a kind according to Judylee Vivier of the Voice and Speech Review (323). She says that the unexpected death of Hamlet's
father throws him into such a sorrowful state that he "is vulnerable, open and present in the text" (323). Russell Beale plays Hamlet as the student
who desperately wants to go back to the university in Wittenberg. His academic tendencies become clear as he constantly writes down words and
phrases he appreciates in his journal. Judylee writes that Hamlet is obsessed with words because "they are all he has left" (323). Writing things down
becomes his way of processing the tragic events of his life (Lloyd).
Many have conjectured that events in Simon Russell Beale's life affected his portrayal of Hamlet. James Harding of the Financial Times notes that
Russell Beale's mother passed away during rehearsals for this production. The death of his mother perhaps led the lead actor to portray Hamlet in a
much "softer" way. This unfortunate circumstance may have driven his performance as the loss of a parent helped

Blind Persistence Essay
The play Othello by William Shakespeare is a portrayal of jealousy and deception. The two characters Cassio and Roderigo play a vital role
throughout the play in portraying Shakespeare's theme of how ignorance, whether it be words of advice from others or just indications, can lead to
one's downfall. Cassio and Roderigo both play an essential role in showing how being persistent–ignoring everything that could be signs of warning–to
attain what we want is not always the correct approach.
The first similarity that links Cassio and Roderigo is their attraction towards Desdemona. Cassio's relationship with Desdemona is really just on a
platonic level. However, because of the misinterpretation of Cassio's introduction with Desdemona, one can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By doing so, he shows that he is determined to regain Othello's trust and eventually his position back. In Roderigo's case, he is determined to
acquire Desdemona for himself. Even after being denied by Barbantio, "In honest plainness thou hast heard me say / My daughter is not for thee"
(I.i.98), Roderigo still manages to pursue after Desdemona. Roderigo's persistence is one of the major causes that are responsible for the tragedy in
the play. Both Cassio and Roderigo did exactly opposite of what the Duke advised in Othello, I.iii.199–209; They allowed their desires to take over
them, not realizing that it would've been best if they had not done so. The notable difference between Cassio and Roderigo is the outcome of their
quest and what happens to them. Cassio realizes that it is more trouble than it's worth asking Desdemona to help him obtain his position back. Thus,
Cassio tells Desdemona to disregard what he had asked of her. Instead of mourning over the situation, he accepts it because he understands that "To
mourn a mischief that is past and gone / Is the next way to draw new mischief on" (I.iii.204). In doing so, Cassio shows that he is willing to accept
his position and will try and make the best out of what he has got. Roderigo also realizes that asking Iago to help him attain Desdemona is a lost
cause. Roderigo shows that his patience is draining when he tells Iago "if she will return me my jewels, I will give over my suit and repent my unlawful

Active Experimentation Paper
Active Experimentation
According to Kristin Behfar, the more efficient and productive teams work through conflict and can consider themselves successful based upon three
attributes: meeting performance goals, members being satisfied with the learning and benefiting, in addition to setting the team up for future success
(Behfar, 2015). For teams not set up for conflict, it can decrease member satisfaction and productivity in addition to leading to non–effective problem
solving. It is imperative to consider the manner in which conflict is managed as it greatly affects the team. Less effective teams will view a trade off
between the satisfaction of team members and performance then behave in a reactive manner escalating the issue, leading the team into constant
firefighting mode. Effective teams are proactive when it comes to the management of conflict, anticipate it and develop a manner in which to deal with
it leading to a resolution or prevention from the offset.
Moving forward, as a mediator, there would be a need to illustrate the effects of the situation in question had on company morale in addition to the core
facilities performance goals. The parties would need to purge the idea that polite behavior needs to be maintained at the expense of conflict. In addition,

Compare And Contrast Macbeth Act 4 Scene 1
After viewing two different performances of Act 4 Scene 1 of Macbeth, I have come to the conclusion that one is better than the other. The
performances take on different forms of the original text. Roman Polanski's version is in the form of a movie, while the Folger version is in the
form of a play. These contrasting mediums portray Shakespeare's tragedy in separate ways. They have separate ideas of what they keep and discard
from the text, as well as how they should present it to the audience. These differences in style separate the two performances from each other. Because
it has remarkable costumes and special effects, a more coherent portrayal of the original text, and superior acting, Folger's Macbeth works better for me.

The two main differences were between how they presented the witches making the potion and how they presented the three apparitions. The Folger
version depicted the witches doing a tribal chant while putting all the ingredients into the cauldron. The chant along with its music made the scene very
interesting and catchy. Polanski's version had over ten witches, rather than the three that were in the original text. They had them put the ingredients
into the cauldron while reciting what they were, rather than chanting them. The Folger version had the three apparitions come out of the cauldron and
say their lines. They seemed very realistic and allowed the audience to see and hear what Macbeth experienced. In Polanski's version, the witches had
Macbeth drink the potion, which caused him to hallucinate and have visions of the apparitions. This interpretation was very interesting, however, it
was poorly executed. It was difficult to understand what Macbeth was experiencing during the apparitions because it randomly jumped around.
Because it was clear to understand and properly executed, Folger's version of Macbeth succeeded in presenting and acting the play out to the

Relationship Between Hamlet And Ophelia
Hamlet and Ophelia's RelationshipIn the world of Williams Shakespeare, there have been plenty of stories and plays of love tragedies. Among these
love tragedies is the story of Hamlet. Hamlet revolves around love and madness. In the play, madness did over power love, especially between Hamlet
and Ophelia's relationship. In the play, there have been many questions about whether Hamlet did love Ophelia. There's evidence arguing Hamlet
never loved Ophelia by the way he acts towards her throughout the play but by the way he acts around Ophelia when he was alone with her, he
really did love her. When Hamlet finds out that Polonius and Claudius are using Ophelia to spy on him, Hamlet uses bitter and harsh language
towards Ophelia, but he goes overboard. For Hamlet, Ophelia's death was painful because he never got the chance to express his love for her.
However, anybody can argue that he was trying to throw people off, and he didn't love Ophelia In the play, Hamlet said "I loved Ophelia. Forty
thousand brothers, if you added all their love together, couldn't match mine" (Act 5). Early in the play there was no exact proof that Hamlet had
feeling for Ophelia. The audience didn't get exact proof of Hamlet's true emotions until the death of Ophelia. This part of the play becomes important
because he claims directly that he loved Ophelia and that forty thousand brothers cannot be compared or replaced. When Ophelia is dead, he has no
reason defend his love for her,

and analysis, the made–to–order process can be more efficient if they redesign the service buleprinting and line balancing, then they will not lose
professional customers whose schedule's busy and others who choose to go to other restaurants bacause of the waiting line. The customer is
approximately spending 210sec from walking into the shop and making orders to finish the orders. And the order fulfillment process takes average
195sec to hand sandwiched to customers. To cut down and processing time and make it more efficient, we need to focus on the precedence
relationship between different ordering and assembling steps. Also we need to focus on the customer actions and realated service providers's
reacting actions. My recommondation would be: when there is a waiting line, customers can get the order form from the entrance of the shop as well
as a pencil then might need. Filling out the forms before arriving the order spot, be prepraed, then I believe the ordering process could drop down a

Thank You For Sharing This Discussion
Hello XXXX Thank you for sharing this discussion. The coffee industry has seen many changes since those early days when James A. Folger first
went to San Francisco 150 years ago. This situational analysis closely parallels the Kellogg's example. Consumers' lifestyle and buying habits are
forever changing. The companies that survive over the years are the companies that are able to understand and anticipate these trends and adjust
their products and services to meet the meet the evolving wants and needs of consumers. The companies who do it best, reap the rewards of
increased market share, profits, and longevity. The leadership at Kellogg's missed it. They did not see that consumers were no longer sitting
around the table to have breakfast. The also missed that the trend of the consumption of copious amounts of sugary breakfast cereal on a daily
basis was heading off a cliff. So as a result their sales and even the viability of the company is now at risk. Folgers is in the same precarious
situation. The best part of waking up is Folger's in your cup was a catchy advertising jingle in the 80s. The trends are now moving away from that
older generation that read the morning newspaper while having a cup a of joe, kissed the wife then went off to work. Those days are gone and never to

Essay on Employee Morale After Downsizing
Employee Morale After Downsizing
Downsizing has become a significant idea in today's economy and maintaining the trust of employees when something like this takes place has also
become very serious business (Brockner, Konovsky, Cooper–Schneider, Folger, Martin, & Bies, 1994). The question is not whether a company
should downsize their employees but how to do the downsizing properly so that as few employees as possible are injured (Brockner, Konovsky,Cooper
–Schneider, Folger, Martin, & Bies, 1994). There are several ways thatcompanies can downsize that will help retain much of the loyalty of the
workers that remain (Brockner, Konovsky, Cooper–Schneider, Folger, Martin, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since 1979, this adds up to 43 million jobs in this country that have been removed and eliminated due to downsizing (Brockner, Konovsky,
Cooper–Schneider, Folger, Martin, & Bies, 1994). One point one million of these jobs have been lost since 1987 in the defense industry due to
budget cuts in the government (Brockner, Konovsky, Cooper–Schneider, Folger, Martin, & Bies, 1994). In 1998, it was expected that another
700,000 layoffs would take place in his government sector (Brockner, Konovsky, Cooper–Schneider, Folger, Martin, & Bies, 1994). In order to put
this in perspective it is safe to say about that 50 percent more people have been victims of various layoffs and downsizing than have been victims of
violent crimes (Brockner, Konovsky, Cooper–Schneider, Folger, Martin, & Bies, 1994). Downsizing in today's society is seen as a basic way of
life for many United States companies (Brockner, Konovsky, Cooper–Schneider, Folger, Martin, & Bies, 1994). There is usually a first round of
downsizing in many companies and this is often followed a short time later by a second round of downsizing (Brockner, Konovsky, Cooper–Schneider,
Folger, Martin, & Bies, 1994). Sixty–seven percent of the firms that cut their jobs in any given year will do the same again in the following year
(Brockner, Konovsky, Cooper–Schneider, Folger, Martin, & Bies, 1994).

Examples Of Blind Ambition In Macbeth
A large part of William Shakespeare's genius is attributed to his talent in examining human nature through his works. By weaving certain themes
throughout his plays and poems, Shakespeare indirectly projected messages about the inherent fallacies of mankind. Such is the case with Macbeth. As
classic literature goes, there are numerous themes found throughout the script. One of the most prevalent (if not the most prevalent) themes is that of
blind ambition. It's justifiable to say that blind ambition is the driving force of the plot. Nearly every major event in Macbeth was instigated, or, at the
very least, influenced by various characters' ambitious tendencies. The characters' decisions, their influence over other characters, and moral
degradation all exemplified the effect that blind ambition had. As stated, Macbeth displays blind ambition soon after hearing the Weird Sisters'
prophesy that he will be the king of Scotland. In Act 1, Scene 4, Macbeth states: "Let not light see my black and deep desires" (Macbeth from Folger
Digital Library I. iv. 58). In that line, Macbeth explicitly acknowledges his ambition and the fact that it is malicious. Macbeth's negative intent is
considered "blind" ambition since the motives are not to help his nation but rather to bolster his own power––thus, there is no vision he is trying to
fulfill. Action without vision leads to destruction. In the words of the Hebrew king Solomon: "Where there is no vision, the people perish" (Proverbs
29:18 KJV Bible). Throughout Macbeth, characters were seen influencing others with their own ambition. One such instance was displayed via
Macbeth's interactions with his wife. Shakespeare revealed that Lady Macbeth was even more ambitious (and cruel) than her husband in Act 1, Scene 5
when Lady Macbeth states:
Glamis thou [referring to Macbeth] art, and Cawdor, and shalt be/What thou art promised. Yet do I fear thy nature; It is too full o' th' milk of human
kindness /To catch the nearest way. Thou wouldst be great,/Art not without ambition, but without the illness (ruthlessness) should attend it. (Macbeth
from Folger Digital Library I. v. 15–20)
These lines show Lady Macbeth thinking that while Macbeth ambitious, he lacks the "illness" (a

The Fair Process Effect On Society
Managers are often confused when employees complain that work decisions are unfair even when the decision process is clear, objective, unbiased,
and honest. Employees may not like the decision outcome, but claiming an outcome is unfair when it would be considered very fair by normative
standards seems to defy logical explanation, especially since many justice studies have found evidence that fair procedures tend to ameliorate
negative reactions to unfavorable outcomes. This evidence is often referred to as the fair process effect (Folger, Rosenfield, Grove & Corkran, 1979),
and it is quite robust. However, what are the conditions under which the fair process effect will not work? That is the subject of this paper, and we
will present a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The present study contributes to the literature by continuing this stream of research on attribution and self–relevant variables within the justice realm.
In addition, it proposes and tests a new model of justice that combines self–threat theory (Campbell & Sedikides, 1999) and the group identification
component in several justice theories.
Literature Review
Traditional justice theories such as the instrumental (Lind & Tyler, 1988), relational (Tyler & Lind, 1992) and group engagement (Tyler & Blader,
2003) models are based on self–focused issues such as protecting the self in the long term and enhancing self–identity within a group, but do not
account for attributions in making justice judgments. Referent cognitions theory (Folger, 1986) and fairness theory (Folger & Cropanzano, 2001)
include attributions for the decision–maker, but do not address issues of self–threat other than saying the attributional process is triggered when
unfavorable outcomes are received. Uncertainty management theory (Lind & Van den Bos, 2002) suggests that perceptions of justice become more
influential under conditions of uncertainty, a potential form of self–threat if the individual is uncertain about the work environment, but it does not
address attributions for the outcome.
The role of attributions in organizational justice has also been

A Brief Note On Good News For Trail Pounders !

That said, this wilderness shows more evidence of volcanism than any other part of the Sierra south of the Lassen region. Highland Lakes offer a

a trail from the easternmost lake crosses big beautiful Gardner Meadow and leads to petite Asa Lake and connects with the Pacific Crest Trail. A trail
from the top of the campground across from the western lake leads to a jaunt up Folger Peak, a non–technical hike. Across from the same lake, hikers

Carla And Kent Acceptance Of Transformative Mediation
Carla and Kent acceptance of Transformative Mediation
In the case of the Suburban General Hospital, consultants, Carla who manages emergency shelters and clinics and Kent a technology consultant are in
conflict over the new patient billing software that Kent developed and wants implemented in the hospital's clinics and doctor's offices, for he feels the
software is ready and will be widely accepted by the physicians.
Carla on the other hand, wants the implementation of the software delayed, for she believes that it needs improvement and more input from additional
users before it can effectively work in the other medical offices. The conflict is now at a standoff, with no signs of resolution.
Bush and Folger 's theory of transformative mediation in their book THE PROMISE OF MEDIATION: The Transformative Approach to Conflict in
2005 describes a unique approach to conflict intervention.
According to transformative theory, parties are seeking an efficient way to agree on specific issues, and to change and transform from a destructive
conflict interaction into a more positive one. Folger and Bush (2005), believes that transformative mediation is ultimately flexible and suited to all
types of disputes. This paper analyzes the transformative model of mediation and recommends this as beneficial for Carla and Kent resolution.

In this paper, I will be applying the relational theory on a scene from the movie "Erin Brockovich". I choose a scene that happened between Erin

was prepared to leave the house. While he was waiting he had an earrings in his hand that he bought as a gift to Erin that he never had a chance to
give it to her, since she was busy with her work for the last six months and he barely had the chance to spent some time with her. At this point
George was feed up with the situation and asked Erin to choose either she finds another job or she should find another guy. Erin said that she can
not quit her job because it was the first time in her life where people are respecting her and listening to what she had to say. Which is something
that she never had before. When George asked Erin: What about me? she explained how none of the previous men in her life cared about what she
need or want before leaving and that she had always bend her life for what the men needs and she won't do that any more. Then, George said that his

The Importance Of Conflict And Narrative Conflict
As defined by Folger et al. (2013), "climate can be defined as the relatively enduring quality of a social unit that is experienced in common by
members, and arises from and influences their interaction and behavior" (p. 212). The climate of this conflict was very negative. The competitive
conflict style as mentioned in the previous section, was the main reason why we had such a negative climate which all of us experienced. We all
became defensive of ourselves and what we were arguing for. As noted by Folger et al. (2013), "a negative climate produces more extreme expressions
of conflict which in turn produces a more conflict negative climate" (p. 217). We were stuck in this cycle of negativity and defensiveness that the
conflict got very heated and ruined our relationships with one another. This greatly impacted the interaction between all of us both during the conflict
and after because I have avoided both of my roommates ever since the conflict started. There are four climate themes that were discussed in class. These
themes are: dominance and authority, degree of supportiveness, relational identity, and interdependence. Dominance and authority determines how
much influence we have over shared decisions. The people I was arguing with wanted to dominate the conflict by using harsh language and threats in
order to get what they wanted. They knew before we really got into the conflict that they would do whatever it takes to make me change my plans. The

Gender Issues in Othello
Gender issues have impacted many aspects of life, one such aspect being literature. William Shakespeare and his literature were no exception to this as
they were subjected and influenced by these gender issues. One of his more infamous works of literature that display these gender issues is the
Shakespearean play Othello. Throughout the play, gender issues that occurred during the time of Shakespeare are portrayed, more notably how
Shakespeare viewed women, how men viewed women, and how gender influenced the story and the choices that were available in for women during
that time.

"At any point in time, an individual's gender– related thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are determined by multiple factors ranging from the broad
societal level to the specific interpersonal encounters and intraindividual process" (Eckes and Trauntner). As stated before, Shakespeare was
surrounded by males in his early childhood which in turn means that he was exposed to all these stereotypes that society had placed upon women.
This could have affected his later works as these stereotypes would be something that he would have grown up with and would have believed and
incorporated into his works of literature. This is evident in the play of Othello many times one of which including whenever Iago says "He (Cassio)
has a pretty wife but he can't even control her (Shakespeare 3)." This quote displays Shakespeare embracing the stereotype in which males are
supposed to be the ones to control females. However, Shakespeare married at a very young age of 18 and would be surrounded by females and this
could have caused his opinions of women to significantly change. This is seen when Shakespeare makes Desdemona ultimately the deciding factor in
accusations against Othello using magic and drugs to woo her (Shakespeare 36–38). The inclusion of this in Othello is significant because a female is
given a major role, something of which was unthinkable in those

Essay About The Evolution Of Advertising

  • 1. Essay about The Evolution of Advertising THE EVOLUTION OF ADVERTISING Advertisements are a huge part of our everyday lives. We see different types of ads everywhere we look; while watching television, listening to the radio, riding on the bus and even walking around your school campus. It seems like the whole world is being flooded by advertisements. Advertising techniques have changed and along with it, the impact they have on each individual's mind. While there are some similarities between the different kinds of advertisements we see today, there are also many differences. Advertising has also become more unethical than it was in, let's say, the 50s. Not all advertisements are brainless; there are a few that are even creative and fun and just pull the target audience in by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... You agree to something that is supposed to be "free" but once you give them your credit card number they will start charging you for something that was supposed to be free all along; when you go back and check the fine print, you realize you were supposed to pay for your "free trial". The same goes with products you buy in the store, they promise you one thing but when you get home and open the package, you find that it's very different to the product they advertise on TV or the radio. There have been many advertising techniques over the past 50 years or so, but one of these changes is the adaption of ads to the shifting mind sets of people over time. An example of this previous statement is FolgersВ® Coffee. In the 1960s FolgersВ® launched an entire series of commercials which were demeaning towards women. The husbands in the commercials always had something witty and humiliating to say about the wives' coffee, in one of the commercials the husband even goes on to say that the secretaries at his office made better coffee; the wives, sad and defeated, talked to a friend about the problem, prompting the friend to suggest she use FolgersВ®. The commercial always ended with the husbands' approval and the wives feeling satisfied for attending to their husbands' needs and wants. This set of commercials, like many in the 60s, was obviously aimed at the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Blind Ambition In Macbeth "According to all known laws of aviation, there is no way a bee. . ." A large part of William Shakespeare's genius is attributed to his talent in examining human nature through his works. By weaving certain themes throughout his plays and poems, Shakespeare indirectly projected messages about the inherent fallacies of mankind. Such is the case with Macbeth. As classic literature goes, there are numerous themes found throughout the script. One of the most prevalent (if not the most prevalent) themes is that of blind ambition. It's justifiable to say that blind ambition is the driving force of the plot. Nearly every major event in Macbeth was instigated, or, at the very least, influenced by various characters' ambitious tendencies. The characters' decisions, their influence over other characters, and moral degradation all exemplified the effect that blind ambition had. As stated, Macbeth displays blind ambition soon after hearing the Weird Sisters' prophesy that he will be the king of Scotland. In Act 1, Scene 4, Macbeth states: "Let not light see my black and deep desires" (Macbeth from Folger Digital Library I. iv. 58). In that line, Macbeth explicitly acknowledges his ambition and the fact that it is malicious. Macbeth's negative intent is considered "blind" ambition since the motives are not to help his nation but rather to bolster his own power––thus, there is no vision he is trying to fulfill. Action without vision leads to destruction. In the words of the Hebrew ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay on Gossip and Deceit in Much Ado About Nothing Gossip and Deceit in Much Ado About Nothing Much Ado About Nothing is primarily a play about gossip. Indeed, the title means a big fuss about a trifle, and by the end, this is exactly what happens. All accusations will come to nothing, causing the play to end the same way as if they never occurred at all. Shakespeare brilliantly plays on the meanings of nothing throughout this play. The word "nothing" would actually have been pronounced "noting" in his time. It can mean worthless, a person of little worth, or also mean everything, in the sense that much ado is made about everything (Smith). Much of the plot is moved along by characters eavesdropping on a conversation and either misunderstanding what they overhear or being deceived by... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the prince congratulates Claudio upon Hero's father's approval to marry him he begins to be confused. In fact, it was the Prince wooing Hero for Claudio at the masked ball. Don John lied to Claudio to create a disturbance at the ball. Don John's malevolent plan to ruin Claudio and Hero's wedding was to take effect the night before they were to wed. The malicious Don John constructed, or rather misconstructed, the scheme that insinuated Claudio's belief in Hero's faithlessness. It is Don John who reports to Claudio and Don Pedro that Hero is having an affair, and he who stage–manages an elaborate charade featuring his own henchman Borachio and an unwitting stand–in for Hero to lend credence to this fiction. Perhaps the most significant thing to be noted in connection with this deception is that the spectator does not witness the crucial scene in which Claudio overhears the counterfeit exchanges between Margaret and Borachio that persuade him of Hero's guilt. We learn of this episode only at second hand, when Borachio boasts of his exploit (Lucking). The spectator of the play watches the Watchman watching Borachio while the latter narrates what he calls his tale relating how Claudio was inveigled into watching an artificial scene enacting Don John's fiction. Once again, what lies at the heart of this convoluted recursive machinery is a nothing (a nocturnal tryst between Hero and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Hamlet And Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder In Shakespeare's... Many people believe Hamlet to be crazy and mad + but his genius in avenging his father's death clearly makes him the sanest and most grounded character in the entire play. Hamlet's actions are no different than those of some modern–day veterans who suffer from Post–Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). A normal reaction to an un–normal situation. To make matters appear stranger, he is only trying to do the right thing by finding out about his father's death based on information from a ghost. The evidence of Hamlet's sanity in act 1, can be can be seen at the beginning of the play when Hamlet is very honest in his in his actions and thoughts. When his mother states, "Good Hamlet, cast thy nighted color off" (I, ii, 70. Hamlet from Folger Digital Texts) stating that he is clearly in an over state of mourning for his father's death. She further presses and asks why it "seems" that he is more bothered by it than most others would be. Hamlet says, "Seems, madam? Nay it is known not seems" (I, ii, 79. Hamlet from Folger Digital Texts). This is Hamlet saying that he feels exactly how he looks and he is not pretending or crazy because he is able to make that distinction. Another example can be found in act one where Hamlet clearly speaks with honesty and sanity when he says, "Yea, from the table of my memory I'll wipe away all trivial, fond records, all saws of books, all forms, all pressures past, that youth and observation copied there, and thy commandment all alone shall live ... • 5. No Parole : Should Not Be Granted Parole? Monika Doughty Ms.Yocum Foundation of English 5 January 2016 No parole Would you kill for love or to feel loved by a convict? Well Patricia Krenwinkel did. Patricia should not be granted parole because she knew right from wrong. That night when Manson picked her for the murders she was excited, She knew she was going to kill. "This is a crime children grow up hearing about," said parole commissioner Susan Melanson.(Killer Cult) All her decisions to kill for Manson was all on her. No one in this world could make me or probably anyone in this world with common sense to do such harsh things to another human being. On top of that She ate food out of the fridge of her victims home. She wanted to start a race war along with "The Family". When patricia went to court after her murders she acted as if she did nothing wrong, as if she knew nothing of the murders. She killed one night and seen it on the news and had no remorse, and then she went and killed the next night (Killer Cult). How can you Take the main part in 7 murders in two nights and not apologizes to any of the victim 's families or show remorse? Patricia doesn't care about the safety of others, she sees us humans as objects and that 's a problem because that makes us a easy target when she angry or upset. To patricia were a tissue she whips her nose with and then throw's away. (Press, The Associated) Patricia is a threat to society. • 6. Four P's of Marketing and Folgers Coffee Introduction This Essay will deal with the Four P's of marketing as it relates to Folgers Coffee. It will be demonstrated how the marketing function is visible in these four areas. It will also be shown how the coffee giant had lost its lead in market share and then recovered it in the mid 1990's. We will explore how now that Folgers is being operated by Smuckers, the coffee giant has used some clever marketing schemes. The Four P's 1.Product 2.Price 3.Place (distribution) 4.Promotion Product In looking at our product, Folgers Coffee, a sure way to see where a product is going sometimes is to look at where it has been. In 1992, Kraft's brand of coffee, Maxwell House, had gained the lead in market share and appeared to be poised ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sales from restaurants–including Starbucks, Dunkin' Donuts, and McDonald's, which carry premium brews–grew at a compound annual rate of 15.2% from 2001 to 2006, as supermarket sales rose only marginally. Activist investor Nelson Peltz is pressuring Kraft to divest slow–growing Maxwell House. But Kraft vows to stick with the $1 billion–a–year brand. Another worry: Only 37% of 18– to 24–year–olds drink coffee, reports the National Coffee Assn., vs. 60% of those 40 to 59 and 74% of folks over 60. (Crown, 2007) Price Folgers now finds itself in an era where price–cutting for consumer goods in general is rampant. Consumers are buying cheaper brands and fewer units of many goods. Consumers have made the most changes so far in high–expenditure, less structural consumables: leisure (including dining out), shopping, and driving. (Leinwand, Moeller, & Shriram, 2008) While many consumВ¬ers will still pay for premium products, superВ¬markets have had to slash prices on many ordinary items. Part of the reason for this is the fierce competition they have been receivВ¬ing from such outlets as warehouse clubs. Folgers is a very well–known brand, but not even the stronВ¬gest brands are safe from the necessity of price–cutting, to which they were formerly immune. In bygone days, owning a strong brand was a sure road to protected high margins. Low–cost generic products have improved in quality and their sales have skyrocketed, making such moves unavoidable.

  • 8. Teen Rebellion In Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet Teen Rebellion is one of the most popular trends on these days. Also there are too many movies and books about it, like "Romeo & Juliet" by William Shakespeare. This book(play) can also be compare to the movie "Titanic" for many reasons. The reasons why they are kind of identical are that both couples were teens and love each other against others. Also because at the end someone dies because of that love. The first reason why "Titanic" and "Romeo & Juliet" are similar is because in both love stories. their love is against everything and everyone. In "Romeo & Juliet"the story is about two teens who rebel against its parents and race groups(Library, Folger. "Romeo And Juliet"). In "Titanic" there are also two teens who love each other against all the people and social classes("Titanic (1997)." IMDb. N. p.). The principal reason why "Titanic" and "Romeo & Juliet" are kind of the same, is because both have teens loving each other against people, status, classes, races etc.... Inspired by Matthias, Ann had abandoned her old life to begin a new one under the teachings of Matthias. Ann Folger was so inspired by Matthias that she threw everything away to follow him. Not only was she inspired by Matthias, but she had lust for him. For all the wrong reasons Ann started followed Matthias only to get close to him personally. Differently from how Elijah joins Matthias' Kingdom, Ann starts to feel lust towards Matthias which led her to join him. As Matthias preached about Match spirits and his own spirit, Ann started to feel lustful towards him. When Matthias and Ann began to talk there conversion started to lead astray, "not only about male government and female perfidy but about match spirits and holy children" (118). At this point Matthias instead of punishing Ann for being lustful, he encourages her to fall to lust. Ann seeing no wrong in flirting with Matthias only makes it worse because he refuses to stop it from happening. Van Wagenen describing Ann's true intentions, "she coupled her own faith with her own notions of what was going on, notions that had to do less with divine patriarchy than with devilish lust" (118). Van Waganen perfectly explains Ann's delusion of faith. She explains how her own actions is her way of expressing her faith towards Matthias, but only to be blinded by her own imagination. • 12. A Literary And Historical Standpoint Although it is practical from a literary and historical standpoint, object–driven analyses of Shakespeare's First Folio fail to account for, as Brown says, "the story of the object asserting itself as a thing." By treating the First Folio as only a book meant to be read for information these analyses let it stagnate in a subject–object binary which leads us to falsely believe that the subject creates knowledge from the object. Or as Brown says, we are stuck viewing the object as a "code by which our interpretive attention makes them meaningful" (Brown 4). This line of thinking is problematic because the object then lacks agency. When the object transitions to a thing, the binary no longer applies and we can see that it has knowledge with or without a subject involved. Additionally, this shift out of the binary allows for the thing to become its own subject. If, as Baudrillard believes "it is the subject that totalizes the world" (qtd in Brown) then this implies that the thing is not merely passively impacted by the world but actively impacts the world with its presence. However, only viewing the First Folio as a thing in opposition to an object also limits our study of it. Instead, I propose that we should examine the story of an object becoming a thing. Before I further my argument I want to take a moment to fully examine the difference between an object and a thing and why current scholarship has failed to acknowledge the importance of the First Folio becoming a thing. ... • 13. William Shakespeare 's Sonnet 30 Shakespeare 's writing about love is exceptionally deep and intensely layered with numerous implications and utilization of rhyme and metaphors. The power of feeling, the profundity of thought, and serious creative energy are all to be found in his sonnets. Shakespeare 's Sonnets clarify the value of human relationships by showing that friendship can end one's own sadness, that love should be commemorated, and that marriage between true minds is loyal and consistent. "But if the while I think on thee, dear friend, / All losses are restored and sorrows end." In Sonnet 30, a past friendship between two mates ends one's own sadness and selfish sorrows. The speaker's thoughts and feelings shift greatly throughout Sonnet 30. As the speaker sits alone peacefully and recalls the past, they get discouraged about everything they had once worked so hard for. This causes the speaker to sob about this important time squandered. "When to the sessions of sweet silent thought / I summon up remembrance of things past, / I sigh the lack of many a thing I sought, / And with old woes new wail my dear time's waste" (1–4) One continues to sob about damages long over and groan about the loss of numerous things never to be seen

  • 17. Hamlet Character Analysis Jackie Strom Prof. Scala ENG 113 27 Oct. 2017 Face the real issue, HamletHamlet proves himself a temperamental, twisted character in William Shakespeare's play, Hamlet. The Prince of Denmark conveys his facetious demeanor with his behavior and sharp tongue, especially in scenes with Ophelia and Gertrude. Although Hamlet's situation is difficult and easily sympathized by viewers, his aggression should ultimately be focused on his murderous uncle. Initially the reader can understand Hamlet's anger with Gertrude when she marries his uncle. "O, most wicked speed, to post / with such dexterity to incestuous sheets," says Hamlet in disgust towards his mother's marriage (1.2.161–12). Gertrude did marry the king's brother quickly after his death, so any resentment Hamlet feels towards his mother is justified. The reader sympathizes even more with the character when Hamlet says of the union, "It is not, nor it cannot come to good. / But break, my heart, for I must hold my tongue" (1.2.163–164). It appears that Hamlet is attempting to be respectful towards his mother, so it's easy to appreciate his character in the beginning. Hamlet seems to be kind towards Ophelia when Polonius reads Hamlet's love letter. Hamlet professes to Ophelia, "Doubt thou the stars are fire, / Doubt that the sun doth move, / Doubt truth to be a liar, / But never doubt I love" (2.2. 124–127). Unfortunately, these words towards Ophelia mean nothing. In response to Ophelia returning his love letters, Hamlet responds with, "I never gave you aught" (3.1.105). Any hint that Hamlet truly loved Ophelia is undermined when he outright denies writing those letters to her. Hamlet further insults Ophelia when he says to her, "Or if thou wilt needs marry, / marry a fool, for wise men know well enough what / monsters you make of them" (3.1.149–151). Absolving himself from any accountability for his moody temperament, Hamlet instead puts the blame on Ophelia. Similar to Ophelia, Gertrude experiences her son's ill demeanor when during their conversation in her bedroom. After killing Polonius, Gertrude responds with, "O, what rash and bloody deed this is" (3.4.33), a statement which perfectly captures the crime that Hamlet committed. Again Hamlet takes ... Women were regarded as the weaker sex and were taught from birth to cook, clean, and do similar tasks so they could marry and their husbands would be proud (Ram, Pham, Sok, Hamsafar, and Wilhemsen, "Gender Roles in Elizabethan Society."). Women were expected to bear children and take great pride in being mothers (Ram, Pham, Sok, Hamsafar, and Wilhemsen, "Gender Roles in Elizabethan Society."). They had few rights; they could not vote, choose a profession, receive an actual education, join the army or navy, or generally provide for themselves (Ram, Pham, Sok, Hamsafar, and Wilhemsen, "Gender Roles in Elizabethan Society."). Men, on the other hand, were to provide for the women in their families, make all decisions, and have ownership of the family's land and home (Ram, Pham, Sok, Hamsafar, and Wilhemsen, "Gender Roles in Elizabethan Society."; Petit, "A Look at Male Gender Roles in Shakespeare's Renaissance.").. • 19. Examples Of Deception In Othello Iago is a master of deception. Despite his cruelty and lack of concern for others, he is able to deceive many because Iago prays on their weaknesses and lack of trust in virtue and purity, represented by Desdemona. Just as the characters are unable to believe in Iago's true nature–one of evil–, they also refuse to trust in Desdemona's true nature; had Othello seen either character's true identity, he could have saved their lives. Desdemona proves that she would give anything to protect and honor her marriage, but despite her whole–hearted commitment to Othello, he betrays her; Shakespeare pits these two characters–Iago and Desdemona–against each other to show that it is just as difficult to believe in pure good as it is to believe in pure evil. Desdemona's first sacrifice is marrying Othello at all; to do so she must abandon her status, wealth, and beloved father. Roderigo claims that by doing so she has, "made a gross revolt; tying her duty, beauty, wit and fortunes in an extravagant and wheeling stranger" (Othello from Folger Digital Texts). Her entire future relies on her trust in a man she hardly knows and who society has told her is lower than her in every way which shows how sincere her love for Othello was; she had nothing to gain from their eloping, but did so regardless. John Caird's Vision for His Production of Hamlet Essay John Caird's vision for his production of Hamlet was to give it a "suffocatingly religious" atmosphere where "the set was part cathedral, part castle, part graveyard, part attic" (Bate 202). Together with set designer Tim Hatley, he succeeded. Amy Gamerman of the Wall Street Journal characterized the set as "dismal" and "vacant–looking." The set was comprised of luggage, suitcases and old trunks that were stacked, torn down and restacked again in different ways to make different scenes. Presumably this element of the set serves the purpose of reinforcing the idea of Hamlet's journey of transitioning from a life free of pain to a life fraught with the truth of his father's death (Vivier 323). Though initially Russell Beale's physique seemed an unnatural choice for the role of Hamlet, in the end his performance was critically acclaimed by most everyone. Though at the time Russell Beale was forty years old and not the slim young Dane audiences had come to expect, his performance was one of a kind according to Judylee Vivier of the Voice and Speech Review (323). She says that the unexpected death of Hamlet's father throws him into such a sorrowful state that he "is vulnerable, open and present in the text" (323). Russell Beale plays Hamlet as the student who desperately wants to go back to the university in Wittenberg. His academic tendencies become clear as he constantly writes down words and phrases he appreciates in his journal. Judylee writes that Hamlet is obsessed with words because "they are all he has left" (323). Writing things down becomes his way of processing the tragic events of his life (Lloyd). Many have conjectured that events in Simon Russell Beale's life affected his portrayal of Hamlet. James Harding of the Financial Times notes that Russell Beale's mother passed away during rehearsals for this production. The death of his mother perhaps led the lead actor to portray Hamlet in a much "softer" way. This unfortunate circumstance may have driven his performance as the loss of a parent helped ... • 21. Blind Persistence Essay The play Othello by William Shakespeare is a portrayal of jealousy and deception. The two characters Cassio and Roderigo play a vital role throughout the play in portraying Shakespeare's theme of how ignorance, whether it be words of advice from others or just indications, can lead to one's downfall. Cassio and Roderigo both play an essential role in showing how being persistent–ignoring everything that could be signs of warning–to attain what we want is not always the correct approach. Even after being denied by Barbantio, "In honest plainness thou hast heard me say / My daughter is not for thee" (I.i.98), Roderigo still manages to pursue after Desdemona. Roderigo's persistence is one of the major causes that are responsible for the tragedy in the play. Both Cassio and Roderigo did exactly opposite of what the Duke advised in Othello, I.iii.199–209; They allowed their desires to take over them, not realizing that it would've been best if they had not done so. The notable difference between Cassio and Roderigo is the outcome of their quest and what happens to them. Cassio realizes that it is more trouble than it's worth asking Desdemona to help him obtain his position back. Thus, Cassio tells Desdemona to disregard what he had asked of her. Instead of mourning over the situation, he accepts it because he understands that "To mourn a mischief that is past and gone / Is the next way to draw new mischief on" (I.iii.204). In doing so, Cassio shows that he is willing to accept his position and will try and make the best out of what he has got. Active Experimentation Paper Active Experimentation According to Kristin Behfar, the more efficient and productive teams work through conflict and can consider themselves successful based upon three attributes: meeting performance goals, members being satisfied with the learning and benefiting, in addition to setting the team up for future success (Behfar, 2015). For teams not set up for conflict, it can decrease member satisfaction and productivity in addition to leading to non–effective problem solving. It is imperative to consider the manner in which conflict is managed as it greatly affects the team. Less effective teams will view a trade off between the satisfaction of team members and performance then behave in a reactive manner escalating the issue, leading the team into constant firefighting mode. Effective teams are proactive when it comes to the management of conflict, anticipate it and develop a manner in which to deal with it leading to a resolution or prevention from the offset. The performances take on different forms of the original text. Roman Polanski's version is in the form of a movie, while the Folger version is in the form of a play. These contrasting mediums portray Shakespeare's tragedy in separate ways. They have separate ideas of what they keep and discard from the text, as well as how they should present it to the audience. • 26. Relationship Between Hamlet And Ophelia Hamlet and Ophelia's RelationshipIn the world of Williams Shakespeare, there have been plenty of stories and plays of love tragedies. Among these love tragedies is the story of Hamlet. Hamlet revolves around love and madness. In the play, madness did over power love, especially between Hamlet and Ophelia's relationship. In the play, there have been many questions about whether Hamlet did love Ophelia. There's evidence arguing Hamlet never loved Ophelia by the way he acts towards her throughout the play but by the way he acts around Ophelia when he was alone with her, he really did love her. When Hamlet finds out that Polonius and Claudius are using Ophelia to spy on him, Hamlet uses bitter and harsh language towards Ophelia, but he goes overboard. For Hamlet, Ophelia's death was painful because he never got the chance to express his love for her. However, anybody can argue that he was trying to throw people off, and he didn't love Ophelia In the play, Hamlet said "I loved Ophelia. Forty thousand brothers, if you added all their love together, couldn't match mine" (Act 5). Early in the play there was no exact proof that Hamlet had feeling for Ophelia. The audience didn't get exact proof of Hamlet's true emotions until the death of Ophelia. This part of the play becomes important because he claims directly that he loved Ophelia and that forty thousand brothers cannot be compared or replaced. The companies that survive over the years are the companies that are able to understand and anticipate these trends and adjust their products and services to meet the meet the evolving wants and needs of consumers. The question is not whether a company should downsize their employees but how to do the downsizing properly so that as few employees as possible are injured (Brockner, Konovsky,Cooper –Schneider, Folger, Martin, & Bies, 1994). There are several ways thatcompanies can downsize that will help retain much of the loyalty of the workers that remain (Brockner, Konovsky, Cooper–Schneider, Folger, Martin, ... Since 1979, this adds up to 43 million jobs in this country that have been removed and eliminated due to downsizing (Brockner, Konovsky, Cooper–Schneider, Folger, Martin, & Bies, 1994). One point one million of these jobs have been lost since 1987 in the defense industry due to budget cuts in the government (Brockner, Konovsky, Cooper–Schneider, Folger, Martin, & Bies, 1994). In 1998, it was expected that another 700,000 layoffs would take place in his government sector (Brockner, Konovsky, Cooper–Schneider, Folger, Martin, & Bies, 1994). In order to put this in perspective it is safe to say about that 50 percent more people have been victims of various layoffs and downsizing than have been victims of violent crimes (Brockner, Konovsky, Cooper–Schneider, Folger, Martin, & Bies, 1994). Downsizing in today's society is seen as a basic way of life for many United States companies (Brockner, Konovsky, Cooper–Schneider, Folger, Martin, & Bies, 1994). There is usually a first round of downsizing in many companies and this is often followed a short time later by a second round of downsizing (Brockner, Konovsky, Cooper–Schneider, Folger, Martin, & Bies, 1994). Sixty–seven percent of the firms that cut their jobs in any given year will do the same again in the following year (Brockner, Konovsky, Cooper–Schneider, Folger, Martin, & Bies, 1994). • 31. Examples Of Blind Ambition In Macbeth A large part of William Shakespeare's genius is attributed to his talent in examining human nature through his works. In the words of the Hebrew king Solomon: "Where there is no vision, the people perish" (Proverbs 29:18 KJV Bible). Throughout Macbeth, characters were seen influencing others with their own ambition. One such instance was displayed via Macbeth's interactions with his wife. Shakespeare revealed that Lady Macbeth was even more ambitious (and cruel) than her husband in Act 1, Scene 5 when Lady Macbeth states: Glamis thou [referring to Macbeth] art, and Cawdor, and shalt be/What thou art promised. Yet do I fear thy nature; It is too full o' th' milk of human kindness /To catch the nearest way. Thou wouldst be great,/Art not without ambition, but without the illness (ruthlessness) should attend it. (Macbeth from Folger Digital Library I. v. 15–20) These lines show Lady Macbeth thinking that while Macbeth ambitious, he lacks the "illness" (a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. The Fair Process Effect On Society Managers are often confused when employees complain that work decisions are unfair even when the decision process is clear, objective, unbiased, and honest. Employees may not like the decision outcome, but claiming an outcome is unfair when it would be considered very fair by normative standards seems to defy logical explanation, especially since many justice studies have found evidence that fair procedures tend to ameliorate negative reactions to unfavorable outcomes. This evidence is often referred to as the fair process effect (Folger, Rosenfield, Grove & Corkran, 1979), and it is quite robust. However, what are the conditions under which the fair process effect will not work? That is the subject of this paper, and we will present a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The present study contributes to the literature by continuing this stream of research on attribution and self–relevant variables within the justice realm. In addition, it proposes and tests a new model of justice that combines self–threat theory (Campbell & Sedikides, 1999) and the group identification component in several justice theories. Literature Review Traditional justice theories such as the instrumental (Lind & Tyler, 1988), relational (Tyler & Lind, 1992) and group engagement (Tyler & Blader, 2003) models are based on self–focused issues such as protecting the self in the long term and enhancing self–identity within a group, but do not account for attributions in making justice judgments. Referent cognitions theory (Folger, 1986) and fairness theory (Folger & Cropanzano, 2001) include attributions for the decision–maker, but do not address issues of self–threat other than saying the attributional process is triggered when unfavorable outcomes are received. Uncertainty management theory (Lind & Van den Bos, 2002) suggests that perceptions of justice become more influential under conditions of uncertainty, a potential form of self–threat if the individual is uncertain about the work environment, but it does not address attributions for the outcome. The role of attributions in organizational justice has also been ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. A Brief Note On Good News For Trail Pounders ! Not far from Ebbetts Pass in Alpine County, sapphire– blue Highland Lakes nest in a sub–alpine flat within Carson–Iceberg Wilderness at 8,600 feet elevation. Flanked by Hiram and Folger Peaks, the lakes are located six miles off Highway 4 via a lumpy dirt road. Surprisingly, though the scenery in this neck of the woods is utterly spectacular, it is very lightly visited. Truth is, the 161,000–acre wilderness bordering Ebbetts Pass sees fewer people than any area in the entire Sierra Nevada. Good news for trail pounders! One explanation for a lonely landscape is the scarcity of lakes. But, there are plenty of streams; the East Fork Carson River among them is a trout–filled beauty. That said, this wilderness shows more evidence of volcanism than any other part of the Sierra south of the Lassen region. Highland Lakes offer a smorgasbord of recreation for outdoor enthusiasts. Kayaking or canoeing on one of the lakes is bliss in this scenic, peaceful environment. Additionally, a trail from the easternmost lake crosses big beautiful Gardner Meadow and leads to petite Asa Lake and connects with the Pacific Crest Trail. A trail from the top of the campground across from the western lake leads to a jaunt up Folger Peak, a non–technical hike. Across from the same lake, hikers can pick up an unofficial use trail to the base of Hiram Peak. Hiram Peak is also a non–technical trek, although along a stretch of ridgeline near the top, acrophobes will get the willies and should stop. Views from the rather exposed section are nearly as panoramic as from the summit. A stroll around the lakes is possible, too. Try your luck catching a trout or two for your supper. How about taking a swim? Of course, there's always relaxing in camp with a good book or catching 40 winks. In my view, Highland Lakes' environs are a fine place to introduce kids to wilderness activities, especially the short hike to Asa Lake. Here is how to get there. • 36. Carla And Kent Acceptance Of Transformative Mediation Carla and Kent acceptance of Transformative Mediation In the case of the Suburban General Hospital, consultants, Carla who manages emergency shelters and clinics and Kent a technology consultant are in conflict over the new patient billing software that Kent developed and wants implemented in the hospital's clinics and doctor's offices, for he feels the software is ready and will be widely accepted by the physicians. Carla on the other hand, wants the implementation of the software delayed, for she believes that it needs improvement and more input from additional users before it can effectively work in the other medical offices. The conflict is now at a standoff, with no signs of resolution. Bush and Folger 's theory of transformative mediation in their book THE PROMISE OF MEDIATION: The Transformative Approach to Conflict in 2005 describes a unique approach to conflict intervention. According to transformative theory, parties are seeking an efficient way to agree on specific issues, and to change and transform from a destructive conflict interaction into a more positive one. Folger and Bush (2005), believes that transformative mediation is ultimately flexible and suited to all types of disputes. I choose a scene that happened between Erin and her boyfriend George. In the scene Erin was coming late from work and George was waiting for her in their bedroom. He packed his bag and was prepared to leave the house. While he was waiting he had an earrings in his hand that he bought as a gift to Erin that he never had a chance to give it to her, since she was busy with her work for the last six months and he barely had the chance to spent some time with her. At this point George was feed up with the situation and asked Erin to choose either she finds another job or she should find another guy. Erin said that she can not quit her job because it was the first time in her life where people are respecting her and listening to what she had to say. Which is something that she never had before. When George asked Erin: What about me? she explained how none of the previous men in her life cared about what she need or want before leaving and that she had always bend her life for what the men needs and she won't do that any more. • 39. The Importance Of Conflict And Narrative Conflict As defined by Folger et al. (2013), "climate can be defined as the relatively enduring quality of a social unit that is experienced in common by members, and arises from and influences their interaction and behavior" (p. 212). The climate of this conflict was very negative. The competitive conflict style as mentioned in the previous section, was the main reason why we had such a negative climate which all of us experienced. We all became defensive of ourselves and what we were arguing for. As noted by Folger et al. (2013), "a negative climate produces more extreme expressions of conflict which in turn produces a more conflict negative climate" (p. 217). We were stuck in this cycle of negativity and defensiveness that the conflict got very heated and ruined our relationships with one another. This greatly impacted the interaction between all of us both during the conflict and after because I have avoided both of my roommates ever since the conflict started. There are four climate themes that were discussed in class. These themes are: dominance and authority, degree of supportiveness, relational identity, and interdependence. Dominance and authority determines how much influence we have over shared decisions. The people I was arguing with wanted to dominate the conflict by using harsh language and threats in order to get what they wanted. William Shakespeare and his literature were no exception to this as they were subjected and influenced by these gender issues. One of his more infamous works of literature that display these gender issues is the Shakespearean play Othello. Throughout the play, gender issues that occurred during the time of Shakespeare are portrayed, more notably how Shakespeare viewed women, how men viewed women, and how gender influenced the story and the choices that were available in for women during that time. "At any point in time, an individual's gender– related thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are determined by multiple factors ranging from the broad societal level to the specific interpersonal encounters and intraindividual process" (Eckes and Trauntner). As stated before, Shakespeare was surrounded by males in his early childhood which in turn means that he was exposed to all these stereotypes that society had placed upon women. This could have affected his later works as these stereotypes would be something that he would have grown up with and would have believed and incorporated into his works of literature. This is evident in the play of Othello many times one of which including whenever Iago says "He (Cassio) has a pretty wife but he can't even control her (Shakespeare 3)." This quote displays Shakespeare embracing the stereotype in which males are supposed to be the ones to control females. However, Shakespeare married at a very young age of 18 and would be surrounded by females and this could have caused his opinions of women to significantly change. This is seen when Shakespeare makes Desdemona ultimately the deciding factor in accusations against Othello using magic and drugs to woo her (Shakespeare 36–38). The inclusion of this in Othello is significant because a female is given a major role, something of which was unthinkable in those ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
