3. Ask Questions!
No microphone is needed, just
speakers (unless there are a couple
of us).
Type any and all questions in the
“chat” area.
The last portion of the hour will be
spent answering questions for the
good of the group.
Individual questions will be
answered personally via email.
4. The difference between pasting,
linking, and embedding code
Pasting is putting code “on top of” the content
of your wiki
Like gluing glass to the top of asphalt on the road,
it will give your car a flat tire
Linking to another page that has the code will
allow the plugin to play on another site instead
of yours
It is like putting a sign on the road that says, “Go
get glass over there”
Embedding is putting code “IN” your wiki
Like glass is embedded in asphalt – it’s not just on
top of the road, it’s IN the road, so the road will

Adding a Plugin

Enter "Edit Mode" on the page where you want to
embed the plugin.
Click the “Insert” button.
Select the type of plugin you would like to insert
from the drop-down menu.
14. Embedding a Voki, Last Slide
TEACHERS CAN USE
THIS PLUGIN TO
NARRATE THEIR
PAGES, SO THAT
STUDENTS WHO
HAVE TROUBLE
READING CAN
FOLLOW ALONG
WITH THE TEXT ON
THE PAGE. TO
ACCOMPLISH THIS,
THE PLUGIN
WOULD HAVE TO
BE SET UP WITH
THE SAME TEXT
THAT IS ON THE
PAGE. ANY
CHANGES TO THE
TEXT ON THE PAGE
WOULD HAVE TO
BE REFLECTED IN
THE PLUGIN AS
WELL.
15. Making a Screencast
A video that shows what you are doing on your
computer and allows you to narrate.
One way is using ActivInspire software (used
with Promethean boards)
Open ActivInspire
On the Tools menu, select More Tools
Select Screen recorder
Click record, specify a filename, and away you go.
16. Another Way to Make a Screencast:
CLICK ON "START RECORDING" IN THE UPPER RIGHT CORNER -- YOU DO
NOT NEED TO DOWNLOAD ANY SOFTWARE IN ORDER TO START
RECORDING.
YOU MAY NEED TO CLICK "RUN."
RESIZE THE SQUARE THAT APPEARS SO THAT IT IS THE SIZE OF YOUR
SCREEN.
CLICK ON THE RED CIRCLE IN THE LOWER LEFT CORNER WHEN YOU ARE
READY TO START RECORDING.
WHILE RECORDING, GO TO YOUR WIKI AND SHOW USERS WHAT YOU
WANTED TO SHOW THEM ON YOUR COMPUTER AS YOU NARRATE.
CLICK "DONE" IN THE BOTTOM LEFT CORNER WHEN YOU ARE DONE
RECORDING.
GO BACK TO THE SCREENCASTOMATIC WINDOW.
CLICK ON "EXPORT MOVIE" ON THE RIGHT SIDE AND SAVE IT TO YOUR
COMPUTER AS A QUICKTIME FILE.
YOU WILL THEN BE ABLE TO EMBED IT ON YOUR WIKI -- IN EDIT MODE,
CLICK ON INSERT>VIDEO>UPLOAD VIDEO.
