Functions:
-Formulate and recommend development plans and policies for higher education
-Formulate and recommed development plan and policies for research
-Set minimum standards for programs
-Monitor and evaluate the programs of institutions
Sec 13. Guarantee of Academic Freedom
The CHED should not abridge academic freedom and privileges of universities and colleges
definition of academic freedom:
".. the freedom of teachers and students to teach, study, and pursue knowledge and research without
unreasonable interference or restriction from law, institutional regulations, or public pressure.."
Scope of Function/ regulation by CHED:
1. set the minimum unit requirements for specific academic programs
2. general education distribution requirement
3. specific professional subjects as may stipulated by various licensing entities.
