History Of Skyline
1. A brief history of Skyline Christian Center
In July 2006 Skyline Christian Center, formerly Gateway Christian Life Church, fulfilled
its original eighteen year vision and relocated to North Natomas. (The church was
originally name Gateway because of the anticipate move to Natomas, the Gateway to
Sacramento. But, when the relocation finally occurred there was already a Gateway
Church in the area, thus the name was changed to Skyline Christian Center.) Gateway
Christian Life Church began in 1988 under its founding Pastor Ken Bluemel. It was the
original aim to locate the congregation in the Natomas area of Sacramento. The Natomas
area was not yet developed and as a result, the congregation began as a small group
meeting in homes. Its first location was a home in Roseville. After three months of
growth, it relocated to a pre-school on Morse Ave across from Kaiser Hospital, and
leasing office space elsewhere. After three years of continued growth, Skyline leased
facilities on Myrtle Ave. In 1991, after conducting an $40,000 remodel the congregation
moved into its new facilities. Just eighteen months later Skyline, then Gateway received
a 25,000 sq. foot church facility in the Fair Oaks area as a gift and relocated again.
During these years, the annual income increased to the mid $600,000’s. It was in Fair
Oaks until the 2006 purchase of 4120 South Market Ct and subsequent full relocation to
the Natomas area.
A brief chronology of 4120 South Market Ct. In July of 2006 Grace International on
behalf of Skyline Christian Center purchased the property 4120 South Market Court.
4120 South Market Court is an 85,000 sq. foot building. The property was purchased
with the understanding that its long time tenants, ATT (who had occupied the facilities
for 20+ years before the purchase) would naturally continue their longstanding lease after
the present two year lease commitment expired. That did not happen. At the end of two
and one-half years, Grace International and Skyline Christian Center’s anchor tenant
ATT vacated the building. That was January 2009. Since that time, Skyline, along with
its parent organization, Grace International (the owner of the property) has been seeking a
resolution. This has not yet happened. The present mortgage payment exceeds the
ability of Skyline Christian Center hence; a new and affordable location must be
acquired. Skyline has an incredibly bright future and sees this as only the next step in the
fulfillment of its vision. Our congregation continues to grow through it all. There is a
strong momentum and readiness to relocate. We have just completed full budget
realignment in preparation for leasing and are as a result very confident of ability to
fulfill a reasonable lease payment.
Skyline Christian Center presently has a membership of approximately
