• 5 groups of 10 (3 groups of women and 2 of
men)
• Each group : 3 days
• Contents of sessions :
 Knowledge about diabetes end its treatment
(Day 1)
 Nutrition (Day 2)
 Exercise (Day 3)

• National program for preventing and fighting
against cardiovascular risks (including
diabetes)
• Diabetes (only) : insulin and drugs for free
• Health education included but not effective
• Despite these efforts, diabetes still causes:
 Cardiovascular disease
 Blindness
 Kidney failure
 And disability

According to WHO :
• 346 million people worldwide suffer from
diabetes
• In 2004, about 3.4 million people died of
diabetes complications
• Over 80% of diabetes deaths occur in low
and middle income countries
• Diabetes is responsible for 10,000
amputations per year in the world
• First cause of blindness before age of 50

According to national survey of cardiovascular
risks in 2007:
• Prevalence of diabetes : 7.7%
• Over 50% of these people are unaware of
their disease

At the province of Taroudannt:
• In 2010: 10 865 diabetics (6048 type 2)
• Prevalence : 1,33%
• 118 Health centers, Drugs for free
• Obstacles:
o Accessibility
o Low income (RAMED)
o And EDUCATION

• Educating 50 diabetics type 2 by April 30th

• Recruitment of candidates: october 2011 to
February 2012
• Preparing documents, presentations,
exercises
• Meeting room, printing documents
• Calling candidates
• Starting classrooms

• Education sessions about:
o Diabetes: physiology, physiopathology
o Practical demonstrations: Insulin injections,
glycemia checkups
o Nutrition and physical exercises
o Evaluation exercises: foodstuffs, « Felt vs
Real »
