16. Jackson Oak, a white Oak tree located in South Finley and Dearing Streets in
Athens, Georgia, United States, was a special distinction among Oak trees in The
US. It was planted around late 18th century in the Jackson household and was the
favourite tree of James Jackson, U.S senator and Governor of Georgia, so much so
that he conferred upon it a special status. It was a national landmark until being
fell in 1942, after which it’s acorn seeds were planted at the same spot to give rise
to a new tree called Jackson Jr., healthy as of today.
According to historical records and local legend, the tree cannot be cut by anyone
or the 8 feet land surrounding It’s base cannot be encroached upon by anyone.
Although no official records exist, Jackson Oak and it’s successors are
irremovable from their location.
