1. Evonik in India
Evonik India is headquartered in Mumbai and is part of Evonik Industries AG. With a turnover of over
€ 207 million in 2014 and a total strength of 260 employees, the group’s operation spans across
India, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka, with sales offices in Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Kolkata as
well as a representative office in Bangladesh. All the three business segments: Nutrition & Care,
Ressource Efficiency and Performance Materials are represented in India. These are further classified
into 22 Business Lines.
The key business areas of focus for Evonik India include specialty chemicals for healthcare, animal
feed, automotive, paints & coatings, construction and personal care, among others. Evonik India
also offers a broad range of bio-degradable polymers for medical devices, excipients for controlled
drug release and regenerative medicine applications.
We are one of the global market leaders in both fumed and precipitated silica and have eight silica
production facilities in five countries in the Asia-Pacific region. Our subsidiary Insilco Ltd. produces
precipitated silica at its site in Gajraula (Uttar Pradesh) for more than 20 years now. Its main
customers are the Indian rubber and life science industries, which use precipitated silica in food
applications, toothpaste and tires for cars and trucks. Evonik also has local production footprint in
India through several toll manufacturing set-ups which helps to cater to the local business needs of
customers. Also cooperation with distribution partners provide strong sales and logistics support.
Furthermore Evonik has a state of the art Research Center in India (RCI) at Mumbai, where it has a
12,000 square feet technical center for R&D. In view of the dynamic growth of the Indian
pharmaceuticals market and high demand for Evonik’s development services, there are plans to
extend this facility. Evonik’s experience in pharmaceutical products manufacturing stretches back
to 50 years and, therefore, pharmaceutical business is part of the strategic core business of Evonik.
EUDRAGIT®, which is a range of excipients for pharma applications, has shown significant growth
in demand, indicating growth patterns of Indian healthcare industry.
Evonik also has application technology laboratories in India. There are, in total 7 Applied Technology
labs in India Region representing the Business Lines - Interface & Performance, Coating & Additives,
Silica Coating Solutions, Silica Performance Solutions, Animal Nutrition, Functional Silanes and
Pharma Polymers. These labs provide technical support for developing new formulations, testing of
products, joint application trials with customers and technical trainings for distributors.

2. India is an attractive market for our feed additives business and looks set for further growth. Evonik
produces essential amino acids for the nutrition of livestock, especially poultry, at six production
sites around the world. We are the only supplier in the world that markets all four major amino acids
for animal feeds. Our activities include custom-tailored services covering all stages in the value-
added chain, from the analysis of amino acids in feed components to quality control. In line with
this, we have a laboratory in Mumbai to analyze the quality of feed ingredients and support the
country’s growing poultry industry in the evaluation and formulation of feeds.
Evonik is seeking opportunities for acquisition in India to strengthen its core business. With its
Business Line Catalysts, Evonik is a global leader in producing specialty catalysts, custom catalysts
and catalysts components for the Life Sciences & Fine Chemicals, Industrial & Petrochemical and
Polyolefins market segments .Recently Evonik Industries announced the successful acquisition of
Monarch Catalyst Pvt. Ltd. at Dombivli, India on June 5th, 2015. This bolt-on acquisition in India
with annual sales in the low double-digit million € range complements Evonik’s leading positions
in activated base metal catalysts and precious metal catalysts. All of Evonik’s future catalyst activities
in India will be operated through the newly acquired company. Monarch’s global oils & fats
hydrogenation catalysts business is a broadening of the Evonik catalysts portfolio. Monarch Catalyst
has about 300 employees.
