off work which upsets his
schedule and he gets mad.
He learns that she was not at
work because her child is
sick.
He sends her a referral to a
specialist so that her son
would get better and she
wouldn’t miss work.

8. Improvements in Melvin’s behaviors
The movie shows Melvin change over time and be able to overcome some of his obsessions.
The movie is misleading in that he is able to overcome his obsessions through personal
connection with Helen which is not realistic.
He does say that he was prescribed medication towards the end of the movie but isn’t clear if it is
a type of antidepressant or anxiety medication.
