RENEWABLE ENERGY AND ITS COMPONENTS
WHAT IS ENERGY SCIENCE
There are different forms of energy on earth. The sun is considered the
elemental form of energy on earth. In physics, energy is considered a
quantitative property that can be transferred from an object to perform work.
Hence, we can define energy as the strength to do any kind of physical activity.
Thus, in simple words, we can define energy as,
Energy is the ability to do work.
TYPES OF ENERGY
Basically energy is two types
1.Renewable energy
2.Non-Renewable energy
WHAT ARE THE OBJECTIVES OF ENERGY SCIENCE
The objective of Energy Management is to achieve and maintain optimum energy
procurement and utilisation, throughout the organization and: To minimise
energy costs and energy waste without affecting production & quality.
Also the other objectives are conservation,
climate protection and cost savings, while the users have
permanent access to the energy they need.
It is connected closely to environmental management,
production management, logistics and other established business functions.
METHODS OF ENERGY CONSERVATION
Energy conservation is the act of reducing the usage and wastage of energy.
Switching off the AC, light, etc., when nobody is in the room are a few practices
that help in energy conservation. We know energy is a broad term and is the
fundamental source of living.To reduce the environmental impact on society,
energy conservation measures are being imparted. Remember, by saving energy,
you are protecting the environment directly.
Energy is sustainable if it "meets the needs of the present without compromising
the ability of future generations to meet their own needs."[1] Most definitions of
sustainable energy include considerations of environmental aspects such as
greenhouse gas emissions and social and economic aspects such as energy
poverty. Renewable energy sources such as wind, hydroelectric power, solar, and
geothermal energy are generally far more sustainable than fossil fuel sources.
However, some renewable energy projects, such as the clearing of forests to
produce biofuels, can cause severe environmental damage.
IMPORTANCE OF SUSTAINABLE ENERGY
Sustainable energy, such as wind and solar energy, creates zero carbon
emissions that can harm the atmosphere and contribute to global warming. It
offsets the need for fossil fuels, which are actively increasing climate change and
polluting our earth.which are growing more expensive and less accessible.
Sustainable energy also helps to conserve the planet's natural resources and
reduce the pollution associated with unsustainable energy.
SUSTAINABLE ENERGY
SOLAR ENERGY
Solar energy is the most abundant of all energy resources and
can even be harnessed in cloudy weather. The rate at which
solar energy is intercepted by the Earth is about 10,000 times
greater than the rate at which humankind consumes energy.
Solar technologies can deliver heat, cooling, natural lighting,
electricity, and fuels for a host of applications. Solar
technologies convert sunlight into electrical
energy either through panels or through mirrors that
concentrate solar radiation.
Although not all countries are equally endowed
with solar energy, a significant contribution
to the energy mix from direct
solar energy is possible for every country.
IMPORTANCE OF SOLAR ENERGY
As a renewable source of power, solar energy has an
important role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and
mitigating climate change, which is critical to protecting
humans, wildlife, and ecosystems.
We can use solar energy endlessly as long as the Sun is
present, and therefore, we can say that it is the most efficient
and infinite form of energy.
1. Solar energy is commonly used for solar water heaters and
house heating.
2. The heat from solar ponds enables the production of
chemicals, food, textiles, warm greenhouses, swimming pools,
and livestock buildings.
USES OF SOLAR ENERGY
WATER ENERGY OR HYDROPOWER
Hydropower harnesses the energy of water moving from
higher to lower elevations. It can be generated from reservoirs
and rivers. Reservoir hydropower plants rely on stored water in
a reservoir, while run-of-river hydropower plants harness
energy from the available flow of the river.
Hydropower reservoirs often have multiple uses - providing
drinking water, water for irrigation, flood and drought control,
navigation services, as well as energy supply.
Hydropower currently is the largest source of renewable
energy in the electricity sector. It relies on generally stable
rainfall patterns, and can be negatively impacted by
climate-induced droughts or changes to ecosystems which
impact rainfall patterns.
IMPORTANCE OF WATER ENERGY
USES OF WATER ENERGY
hydropower plants can generate power to the grid
immediately, they provide essential backup power during
major electricity outages or disruptions. Hydropower
provides benefits beyond electricity generation by providing
flood control, irrigation support, and clean drinking water.
Hydropower is affordable.

WIND ENERGY
Wind energy harnesses the kinetic energy of moving air by
using large wind turbines located on land (onshore) or in sea-
or freshwater (offshore). Wind energy has been used for
millennia, but onshore and offshore wind energy technologies
have evolved over the last few years to maximize the electricity
produced - with taller turbines and larger rotor diameters.
Though average wind speeds vary considerably by location,
the world’s technical potential for wind energy exceeds global
electricity production, and ample potential exists in most
regions of the world to enable significant wind energy
deployment.
IMPORTANCE OF WIND ENERGY
Wind power is a clean and renewable energy source.
Not only is wind an abundant and inexhaustible resource, but it
also provides electricity without burning any fuel or polluting
the air. Wind continues to be the largest source of renewable
power in the United States , which helps reduce our reliance on
fossil fuels.
USES OF WIND ENERGY
1.It is used in generating power and electricity.
2.It can be used in grain milling, land surfing, construction
windmills, powered vehicles, water pumping, windsurfing,
powered ships, and cargo ships.
CONCLUSION
Renewable energy supplies reduce the emission of greenhouse gases
significantly if replaced with fossil fuels. Since renewable energy supplies are
obtained naturally from ongoing flows of energy in our surroundings, it
should be sustainable.

Also the other objectives are conservation, climate protection and cost savings, while the users have permanent access to the energy they need. It is connected closely to environmental management, production management, logistics and other established business functions. METHODS OF ENERGY CONSERVATION Energy conservation is the act of reducing the usage and wastage of energy. Switching off the AC, light, etc., when nobody is in the room are a few practices that help in energy conservation. We know energy is a broad term and is the fundamental source of living.To reduce the environmental impact on society, energy conservation measures are being imparted. Remember, by saving energy, you are protecting the environment directly.
