• What are the three elements of a good LA
question?
• What are some of the methods commonly
used to collect data?
• What are some of the forms of linguistic
analysis?
3. I’m a Stick Stickler
• Follow the “Assignment
Sheets” I provide, as they
are the most recent and
most clear sources for my
instructions about an
assignment.
• If you are ever unclear
about something, email me.
• I know you’re juggling a lot
of things, so just check BB
as everything is right there
for you and sometimes its
attached in an email.
4. Small Group Discussion Format
• Choose one person to “Record” your small-group discussion.
• Each person should:
– Provide a short summary of their chosen article. If you have the same
article, then add depth to the summary your colleague provides.
– Tell your group mates what about the work was most interesting or
important for your own project
• Answer the following questions:
– What human experience(s) are under investigation in your
projects? [Think across your projects]
– What methodologies (ways of collecting data) were put to
use in your projects?
– What method of analysis was most prevalent across your
projects?
– Were you able to get a different reading from the
examples the researcher provides?
