2. ¿What is it?
•Is a complex event involving a group of waves of great
energy and variable size that occur when some
extraordinary phenomenon vertically displaces a large
body of water.

3. ¿How does it originate?
•For an earthquake to originate a tsunami, the
seafloor must be abruptly moved vertically, so
that the ocean is propelled out of its normal
equilibrium.

4. ¿What steps to take?
•Organize an evacuation route
leading to higher ground.
•Be aware of certain signs that
warn of the arrival of a
tsunami such as the rapid rise
or fall of water on the coast.

5. ¿What is a Sismic Alert System?
•It is a technological and communication development
that aims to report on the occurrence of a major
earthquake.

6. ¿How to prepare?
•Inform about evacuation routes
and safety zones
•Always have your vehicle keys
on hand, and parked vehicle
ready to leave.
•Teach children how to react
and where to go in case of
earthquake or alert.

7. ¿How to know when it will happen?
•The tsunami was
generated by a sensitive
earthquake where it is
located.
• If you feel a major tremor
lasting more than 20
seconds, it is advisable to
go to safety zones.
