Course summary
Privacy has long been recognised as an
important human right, but how does society
balance this right with the protection of others,
such as the right to freedom of expression? This
free course, Privacy rights and the law, will
examine how privacy is protected in UK law and
the impact on this of the European Convention on
Human Rights.
Learning outcomes
By completing this course, the learner should be
able to:
explain what privacy means and what a right to
privacy protects
identify the conflicts between privacy and other
human rights and interests
summarise the elements which must be proven
to show a breach of confidence
discuss the circumstances in which a
confidence will not be protected
