3. Psalm 59: The content of the psalm reinforces the occasion cited in the superscription.
Though David was Saul’s son-in-law, Saul sent men to kill him (1 Sam. 19:1-17). The psalm is
David’s prayer while so threatened by his enemies.
It contains three key elements that are
intertwined: petition (verses 1-3; 4b, 5, 11-13),
lament (verses 3, 4a, 6-7), and
expression of trust in God’s answer(verses 8-10; 14-17)

Deliver me from mine
enemies, O my God: defend
me from them that rise up
against me. Deliver me from
the workers of iniquity, and
save me from bloody men.

my soul: the mighty are

• David Was Good Looking.
• David Was Charismatic.
• David Was Young.
• David Had Been Given A Position Of Great Influence With The King.
• David Had Calmed Saul’s Spirit.
• David Was Loved By Saul, At First.
8. David’s Enemies Set Out
To Poison Saul’s Mind.
• “David Is a Traitor!”
• “David Is Plotting To Seize The Throne!”
• “David Is Stealing The Hearts Of The People!”
• “David Is Biding His Time, Until He Can Kill You!”
9. Psalms 59:4
They run and prepare
themselves without my
fault: awake to help me,
and behold.
David boldly asks
the Lord to wake up and help!
10. Psalms 59:5
Thou therefore, O Lord
God of hosts, the God of
Israel, awake to visit all the
heathen: be not merciful to
any wicked transgressors.

What Consoled David In This
Hour Of Panic Was His Knowledge of God!
11. David Knew Who God Is!
• God is “Yahweh Sabaoth”—The All-Powerful One
• God is “Elohim Y’isra’el”—The God of Israel
• God Can And Will Handle Rebellion, Because Of His Power
And Grace!
12. Psalms 59:6-7
They return at evening: they
make a noise like a dog, and go
round about the city. Behold,
they belch out with their mouth:
swords are in their lips: for who,
say they, doth hear?
Just Like A Pack Of Starved Dogs,
David’s Foes Were “Barking” All Over Town!
13. Psalms 59:8-9
But thou, O Lord, shalt
laugh at them; thou shalt have
all the heathen in derision.
Because of his strength will I
wait upon thee: for God is my
defense.
David Puts His Trust In God;
He Is David’s Tower Of Strength!
14. Psalms 59:10
The God of my mercy
shall prevent me: God
shall let me see my desire
upon mine enemies.
David’s Confidence Was That
God Would Show Mercy, While
His Enemies Showed Hatred!
15. Psalms 59:11-12
Slay them not, lest my people
forget: scatter them by thy power;
and bring them down, O Lord our
shield. For the sin of their mouth
and the words of their lips let them
even be taken in their pride: and for
cursing and lying which they speak.
David Wants Them To Be An Example
To Israel, And To Be Held Accountable!
16. Psalms 59:13
Consume them in wrath,
consume them, that they
may not be: and let them
know that God ruleth in
Jacob unto the ends of
the earth. Selah.
17. Psalms 59:14-15
And at evening let them
return; and let them make a
noise like a dog, and go
round about the city. Let
them wander up and down
for meat, and grudge if they
be not satisfied.
18. Psalms 59:16-17
But I will sing of thy power; yea,
I will sing aloud of thy mercy in
the morning: for thou hast been
my defence and refuge in the
day of my trouble. Unto thee,
O my strength, will I sing: for
God is my defense, and the
God of my mercy.
19. David Knows That God Saved Him!

God In His Life!
20. When You Are
Falsely Accused:
• Take Inventory Of Your Life.
• Pray! You Need God To Lead You!
• Leave It With God!
• Trust In God’s Lovingkindness. He Has Never Failed To Come To The
Aid Of His Children!
