6. Gal 2:2, Another Revelation!
• Gal 2:2 I went in response to a revelation and
set before them the gospel that I preach
among the Gentiles. But I did this privately to
those who seemed to be leaders, for fear that I
was running or had run my race in vain.
• Gal 1:1…sent not from men nor by man, but by
Jesus Christ and God the Father…
• Gal 1:14-15…advancing in Judaism….But when
God…called me by his grace…
7. Gal 2:3, Uncircumcised Titus
• Paul takes uncircumcised Titus to the
circumcision headquarters!
• Gal 2:3 Yet not even Titus, who was with me,
was compelled to be circumcised, even though
he was a Greek.
• Why?
8. Gal 2:4, Freedom In Christ Or Slaves
• Gal 2:4 [This matter arose] because some
false brothers had infiltrated our ranks to spy
on the freedom we have in Christ Jesus and to
make us slaves.
• Romans 6:6…we should no longer be slaves to
sin…
• Romans 8:2 because through Christ Jesus the
law of the Spirit of life set me free from the
law of sin and death.
9. Gal 2:5, The Gospel Would Be Lost!
• Gal 2:5 We did not give in to them for a
moment, so that the truth of the gospel might
remain with you.
• If surrender to the Law was required, they
wouldn’t have the Gospel.
10. Gal 2:7, Paul To The Gentiles
• Gal 2:7 On the contrary, they saw that I had
been entrusted with the task of preaching the
gospel to the Gentiles, just as Peter had been
to the Jews.
• Where was the 1st. place Paul started in every
town?
11. Gal 2:7, To The Jew First
• Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of
Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to
every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also
to the Greek. .
• Romans 2:9 Tribulation and anguish, upon every
soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and
also of the Gentile; .
• Romans 2:10 But glory, honour, and peace, to
every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and
also to the Gentile: .
12. Gal 2:7, To The Jew First
• Acts 1:8 “But you will receive power when the Holy
Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses
in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to
the ends of the earth.“
• Acts 8:1 On that day a great persecution broke out
against the church at Jerusalem, and all except the
apostles were scattered throughout Judea and
Samaria.
• Acts 8:14 When the apostles in Jerusalem heard
that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they
sent Peter and John to them.
13. Gospel To The Ends Of The Earth
• Acts 13:46-48 Then Paul and Barnabas answered
them boldly: "We had to speak the word of God to
you first. Since you reject it and do not consider
yourselves worthy of eternal life, we now turn to
the Gentiles. 47 For this is what the Lord has
commanded us: "'I have made you a light for the
Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends
of the earth.'" 48 When the Gentiles heard this,
they were glad and honored the word of the Lord;
and all who were appointed for eternal life
believed.
14. Gal 2:9, Pillars= (plural) Popes?
• Galatians 2:9 James, Peter and John, those
reputed to be pillars… Gal 2:2…leaders…
• Acts 12:17 Peter motioned with his hand for
them to be quiet and described how the Lord
had brought him out of prison. "Tell James and
the brothers about this," he said, and then he
left for another place.
• Galatians 2:12…men came from James…
15. Gal 2:9, Pillars= (plural) Popes?
• Acts 15:12-13 The whole assembly became silent
as they listened to Barnabas and Paul telling about
the miraculous signs and wonders God had done
among the Gentiles through them. 13 When they
finished, James spoke up: "Brothers, listen to me.
• Acts 21:17-19 When we arrived at Jerusalem, the
brothers received us warmly. 18 The next day Paul
and the rest of us went to see James, and all the
elders were present. 19 Paul greeted them and
reported in detail what God had done among the
Gentiles through his ministry.
16. Gal 2:11, I Opposed Him
• Galatians 2:11 When Peter came to Antioch, I
opposed him to his face, because he was clearly in
the wrong.
• This is “to his face,” publicly, because he had led
the “other Jews” into “his hypocrisy.”
• Public heresy demands public rebuke.
• Lev 19:17…Rebuke your neighbor frankly so you will
not share in his guilt.
• 1 Tim 5:20 Those who sin are to be rebuked
publicly, so that the others may take warning.
17. Gal 2:11, Why Did He Do It?
• Galatians 2:11… he was clearly in the wrong.
• Why did he do something “clearly in the wrong”?
• Galatians 2:12…because he was afraid of…the
circumcision group.
• Galatians 1:10…If I were still trying to please
men, I would not be a servant of Christ.
• Pr 29:25 Fear of man will prove to be a snare…
18. Gal 2:13, Paul Stood Alone
• Gal 2:13 The other Jews joined him [Peter] in his
hypocrisy…
• 2 Ti 4:16-17 At my first defense, no one came
to my support, but everyone deserted me.
May it not be held against them. 17 But the
Lord stood at my side and gave me strength,
so that through me the message might be fully
proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it.
19. Gal 2:14, You Live Like A Gentile
• Gal 2:14…I said to Peter in front of them all,
"You are a Jew, yet you live like a Gentile and
not like a Jew…
• Before or after Acts 10?
• Peter could have had knowledge, but
knowledge isn’t always enough;
• Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit;
• Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.
21. Galatians 2:16,
Works Justification?
• . Galatians 2:16 nevertheless knowing that a man is not
justified by the works of the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus,
even we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we may be justified
by faith in Christ and not by the works of the Law; since by the
works of the Law no flesh will be justified.
• . James 2:21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works
when he offered up Isaac his son on the altar? 22 You see that
faith was working with his works, and as a result of the works,
faith was perfected;
• . James 2:25 In the same way, was not Rahab the harlot also
justified by works when she received the messengers and sent
them out by another way?
• . Luke 5:32 "I have not come to call the righteous but sinners
to repentance." 40
23. Gal 2:17, Christ Promotes Sin?
• Gal 2:17 "If, while we seek to be justified in
Christ, it becomes evident that we ourselves
are sinners, does that mean that Christ
promotes sin? Absolutely not!
• Luke 5:32 I have not come to call the
righteous, but sinners to repentance."
26. Gal 2:21, Christ Died For Nothing?
• Gal 2:21 I do not set aside the grace of God,
for if righteousness could be gained through
the law, Christ died for nothing!“
• Mt 26:39…"My Father, if it is possible, may this
cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as
you will.“
• John 14:6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and
the truth and the life. No one comes to the
Father except through me.
