2. Tom Jenkins is the leading sports photographer for The Guardian. Jenkins became
a professional sports photographer in 1989. For the vast majority of the time
since he has worked for The Guardian and The Observer newspapers. Of the
many international events he has covered, the 5 World Cups and 3 Olympics
stand out as the highlights of his career. As a lover of sport and photography he
describes it as “the best job in the world!”.
3. Jenkin’s photography mainly uses a fast shutter
speed, to focus on the subject in the game,
moving fast, and capturing the real essence of
the moment.
4. However, Jenkins also uses a slow shutter speed,
to capture momentum of which the subject is
moving to portray speed and agility, whilst also
creating captivating pictures.
5. I have chosen this
photograph
because there is a
great example of
leading lines
within. The walls of
the tunnel directs
the eye towards
the player, and the
main focal point of
the picture being
the number 10 on
the subjects shirt.
Although there is a
high contrast of
colours, there is a
certain ‘gritty-ness’
to the picture,
creating a tribal like
atmposphere.
