Hypertension is becoming one of the most lethal diseases in India, with 29% of people affected. By 2025, it is estimated that over 214 million Indians will have hypertension. Urban Indians have higher rates of hypertension at 33% compared to 25% of rural Indians, and lifestyle factors such as obesity, stress, diet, alcohol and tobacco use, and physical inactivity are contributing causes. Only a small portion of hypertensive Indians have their blood pressure under control or are receiving treatment.
