4. How it Started
Idea came after the 2004 tsunami, when Jawed
couldn’t find video of the tragedy event online
First headquarters was in San Mateo, California
YouTube.com domain was created February 14th,
2005
Officially launched in November, 2005

5. Growth
1st video was “Me at the Zoo” posted by creator
Jawed Karim on April 23, 2005
In July, 2006 YouTube averaged 65,000 new
uploads and 100 million views per day
In October, 2006 Google Inc. acquired YouTube for
$1.65 billion dollars in Google stock
In June, 2006 YouTube agreed to an
advertising/marketing deal with NBC

In November 2008, YouTube made a deal allowing
MGM, CBS, and Lions Gate to post full length
shows on YouTube to compete with Hulu.com
In January 2010 YouTube began offering a movie
rental service
In March 2010 YouTube offered the first free, live
streaming of a sporting event, the Indian Premier
Cricket League

Felix Kjellberg (October 24, 1989)
 Started his YouTube channel on April 29, 2010
doing Lets Play style of vlogging
Unique and relatable style and commentary led to
a massive following of 13-18 year olds
Dropped out of Chalmers University of
Technology in 2011 to focus on YouTube career

4. February 2015- 35 million
His channel earns anywhere from $140,000 to
$1.4 million dollars a month
Featured on two consecutive South Park episodes

10. Bo Burnham
Bo Burnham (August 21, 1990)
Started doing comedic music in 2006 describing
teenage awkwardness and other teenage
situations
Videotaped and uploaded the videos of his two
debut songs “My Whole Family” and “My Little
Secret” so his brother could view them from
college
His videos were found and posted to Break.com,
where they became instantly viral

11. Bo Burnham (Continued)
In Fall 2007, Bo was contacted by Douglas Edley
to be signed to The Gersh Agency
In January, 2008 Bo Recorded The World Stands
up in London and also signed a four record deal
with Comedy Central
His First Full album, Bo Burnham released on
March 10, 2009
