Jean Louis Desjoyaux, CEO of Desjoyaux Pools highlights the qualities ofhis factory, the onlyone of its kind inFrance.
The market has picked up again after a period ofextendedcrisis.Has this year got offto a good
start?
Thisis our fourthmonthof activity,andthe figuresfor2019 are good.We're comingvery close to the
group'sbestresults.Thatwas back in 2007. Thenalongcame the crisis,whichwasparticular
detrimental toourtrade.In2007, we sold 14,000 pools.Because of the crisis that figure droppedto
7,000. Nowwe're back up to 8,200 andcautiously optimistic. Ithinkourturnoverwill rise to€100M,
whichis thisyear's objective. We're feelingsomewhatreassured, asthe weatheroverthe pasttwo
yearshas beenfavourable tous, andthe currenttendencyisforhygge and buyingequipment.
Frenchpeople wantall the creature comforts.Havingapool is like havinganextraroomin the
house.
What about the Ligériens,asthe inhabitants of Loire are called?
In Loire, withitsthree storesin Montbrison, Saint-Etienne andRive-de-Gier, we hope tosell between
180 and200 pools.Thishas alwaysbeena growtharea.
2. You're also relyinga lot on export. Whatsort of reputationdoes the brand have internationally?
35% of our turnovercomesfromexport andwe aim to ramp that upto 50%. We're proudto be 100%
French.It's a real assetin emergingcountries. A Frenchimage isaguarantee of quality inChinaand
Asiaingeneral, aswell as inBrazil and Egypt. We are presentin 83 countries thanksto7 subsidiaries
locatedabroad.Andwe intendtostart exportingourproductsto new countries,suchas Russia,
Hungary,Saudi Arabia,Israel andGeorgia.We're sellingluxury à la française.
In Europe, we're seenmore asindustrialists withanenvironmental bent,andthisissomethingwe
cultivate inGermany. InFrance, we aimto open 35 pointsof sale, ontop of the 162 we alreadyhave.
And as a resultyou've investeda great deal inthe site in La Fouillouse, includingduringthe crisis.
What are the site'scharacteristics?
We investedmassivelyinthe site in LaFouillouse andwe're veryattachedtothe area.Everythingis
made by us inour factory,which isthe onlyone of itskindinthe world. We're the onlycompany to
have all departmentsonthe same site, andthat represents 200 employees.We invest€5Mevery
yearin R&D and injectionlines,andhave designedafactorycapable of producing 20,000 poolsa
year.
How do you promote the environmental aspect?
We have an integratedResearch&Developmentunit,andI've been steeringresearch forthree years
now.We have aboutfifteenpeopledevelopingproductsona dailybasis,andregister3to 5 patentsa
year.Newpumps,new shells…It's an importantgrowthdriver.Nowadays,ourpool shellsare 100%
recycledatour site in La Fouillouse. Thismeanswe recyclenearly 2,200 tonnes of polypropylene
here on site. It'srecycled,extruded withmineral filler,andmoulded toformpool shells.We buy
waste productsinItaly and France.
