news
What is soft news? 
They’re longer and often written as a feature stories. 
Its more to entertain then to inform. They usually don’t 
contain any important information that would come in 
handy, but different facts that are interesting to read. 
Different examples: 
• Human interest 
• Art 
• Entertainment 
• Health 
• Education
What is hard news? 
They’re factual and aim to inform. The hard news contain up-to-date 
information, so news that come in from today and not from 
2 weeks ago. 
These types of news consist of important facts that should be 
heard to inform everyone on what’s happening to the world of 
now. 
Different types of hard news: 
• Politics 
• Economics 
• Business 
• Conflicts and wars 
• Crimes and courts 
• accidents
What is worthy of a news? 
NEWS 
Timeliness 
An event that 
happened now 
would be news 
but news from a 
week ago would 
old. 
For something to be news worthy they would need to go 
through the news value, which are: 
Proximity 
How distance the 
events is 
Bad news 
News that often include 
conflicts and tragedy which 
involves human being 
Entertainment 
Animal stories 
Humour stories 
Children stories 
Stories that are fun to read 
Celebrities/elites 
Recent events that 
involve famous 
people, good or bad 
its still news. 
Powerful/popular like 
America would be 
considered news. 
Impact 
More people 
infected/affected would be 
newsworthy.
