Review On Britain’s Got Bhangra
1. Review On Britain’s Got Bhangra
‘Britain’s Got Bhangra’ was a really interesting musical performance which I
went to watch and the musical was about a man leaving his homeland
which was India and to go abroad to find a job and become successful so
that he could invite his wife to stay with him permanently in the UK.
Twinkle who got married to Jassi in India and they both are Panjabi, after a
couple of days twinkle decides to fly away from home and come to England
where he thinks he would become successful. Jassi was quiet upset about
the fact that Twinkle was leaving home and so she decides to him his
husband a stone necklace which would keep him safe from evil. Twinkle sets
off and comes to England, he struggles very hard to find a job so he decides
to work with his cousin called Rocky and they both work as mechanics. A
recording company is looking for someone who can sing, the boss Miss
Shinde, bumps into Twinkle and finds out that he has a recording voice and
so she makes him sign a contract deal. As twinkle becomes successful he
can afford to invite his wife Jassi to England and the news excites her as she
was awaiting to see her husband after many years. A couple of day before
Jassi’s arrival, Twinkle goes on tour and get very drunk and he sleeps with
one of his fans. The girl decides to keep Twinkle’s stone necklace which was
a gift given to him from his wife, twinkle is so lost as fame gets to him and
this makes him to ignore his families. After tour he meets his wife, but he
doesn’t really care about the fact that she has come and he neglects his wife
and gets over the top about being a singer and very famous. Jassi gets really
upset as she has been noticing many changes in his husband and this
makes her very upset as his husband does not respect her. Rocky and
Twinkle get into a massive argument and Rocky confronts Twinkle about
cheating on his wife, drinking, neglecting his family and friends. Twinkle
tells Rocky that he does not care about anyone else and he breaks his bond
with Rocky. Later that night Rocky get stabbed as the girl who Twinkle slept
with got pregnant, the girls brother thinks that it was Rocky who got her
pregnant and decides to kill him. Twinkle finds out about Rocky’s murder
and he suddenly stops his singing career as he blames himself for Rocky’s
death, the closest person to him when he came to England. After many
years later, a boy named Jason comes and he is in search of his father as
his mum has passed away and he wants to get to know his dad, who he has
never met. Shinde who used to be Twinkle’s boss is nearly out of business
and she suddenly comes across Jason and she finds out that Jason can also
sing and so she decides to use him to make money. Once night Twinkle
bumps into Jason and he realises that Jason has nowhere to go and so he
decides to allow him to stay the night, that very night twinkle listens to the
radio and he finds out that someone on the radio sounds exactly like him,
2. he is in shock. Jassi goes into the living room to check up on Jason and she
sees the the necklace on Jason, the very same necklace which Twinkle had
lost. Twinkle and Jassi argues about Twinkle cheating on Jassi, Jassi makes
twinkle choose between her and Jason. Out of nowhere a soul appears right
before Jassi and Twinkle’s eye, the soul of their grandmother tells Jassi to
accept Jason as her son and forgive Twinkle. Later on Shinde gets arrested
by the police as she illegally sells Twinkles songs, Twinkle and his song
starts their own singing business together and they all live happy as twinkle
becomes successful with his son knowing that Jassi has accepted Jason.
I really liked the musical as is consisted of different genres of music, such as
Rock, Jazz and classical. The songs where a mixture of Indian and English
translated songs and this made the musical interesting as it combined two
different languages and made sense out of it through their songs. The music
has a massive impact on the audience at the atmosphere was very lively as
some people from the audience were also dancing and from this I was able
to tell that other people also enjoyed the musical and were dancing along.
I really liked the use of colours in the musical; the costumes were very
vibrant and brought to the audience a taste of the Indian culture as they
had Bhangra dancers. The women and men were dresses very differently but
they both were in Indian wears most of the time. Through their costumes it
was very clear to tell whether if someone was really poor or really rich. Most
of the women were wearing ‘Saris’ an Indian wear, they looked difficult to
control as they had the end bit of the ‘Sari’ wrapped around their waist.
The spoken dialogue was very clear to hear as they all had microphones to
make their voices louder so that they were heard very clear. This technology
was very useful as, some people were sitting quiet far away from the stage
and so they were able to ear that spoken dialogue through speaking into the
little microphones attached onto their clothes. I understood what the
musical was about and I felt that I was kept entertained throughout the
musical. They also had an interval which I really liked, the interval gave us a
chance to relax and grab something to eat so that we were focused on the
play, and also the interval gave the actors a chance to move the set designs
around.
They could of improved the musical by shortening it a bit as it was too long
and some people were getting tired as it was really late into the night. Even
though they gave us all an interval I still believe that if they had shortened
their musical a little bit and not longed it out, it would have been really
effective and maybe other might come to watch it again.
Their story line was quiet typical as, in many Indian films somehow people
get reunited with each other through something and in this case it was the
3. stone necklace. They could of kept the storyline real so that Jason’s mother
was not dead and Jason was reunited with his father through his mother.
They could of tried and not made it superstition of Twinkle’s grandmother’s
soul coming into their living room and tell Jassi and Twinkle to get along. In
reality that hardly happens to anyone. I am not sure if they had a mural, I
think that they should of had a mural. I think that the musical would
somewhere mislead people, as Jassi Forgave Twinkle for cheating on her
very quickly and from this people would not learn much, maybe is Jassi
went back to India and Twinkle went after him with Jason to prove that she
should give him a second chance.
Overall I really liked the musical as I have never seen anything like this and
I would definitely recommend to anyone as it is worth watching it.
