6. At the Zoo
Little Sania went to the zoo,
With all her friends and her teacher too.
This image is copyrighted So many animals saw she there,
All in cages kept they were.
Monkeys, zebras, bears and deer,
Prancing, playing all so near!
She laughed and clapped so much with glee,
Watching the antics of the chimpanzee.
The lions, not the tigers scared her more,
As one yawned and gave a loud roar!

7. My Pet Perry
My pet Perry is a little white pup,
Black button eyes, wet nose turned up.
Shiny, white coat as soft as silk,
Looks so funny while he laps up his milk.
With his long, pink tongue he wipes my face,
While in the morning I tie my shoelace.
His bobbing, fluffy tail always leads me around,
Lost books, socks or pencils are quickly found.

8. When the Rains Come
Black clouds roll in and cover the sky,
Thunderclaps are heard on high.
A light breeze blows, rustling the leaves,
Curtains billow like the sails of a ship.

Sitting by the window, I love to feel,
Wet air on my face -- cool cucumber peel.
The scent of the grass and the earth so brown,
As the first fat drops come pattering down.

11. The Rainbow
When the rains have gone and the sky clears,
As if by magic the rainbow appears!
Where does it begin and where does it end?
Over the whole world this bow does bend!
Where should I look for that pot of gold?
Which is hidden at its end, so I am told.

How forms this wonder? ……

O! such thrill to be on a swing!
Up towards the clouds I wing.

Grandma says there’s a nymph in the pond,
On full moon nights she takes to firm ground.
She’s all silver with a diamond tiara,
…………………………………
I love grandma’s stories they’re so, so grand,
Listening to her words, my hairs stand on end.
I have my own doubts on the nymph in the pond,
Why nobody else has seen her around.

17. THUNDER
Thunder, thunder, how I wonder
Where your drums are hidden away!
If this night were not so dark
And lightning flashes not so fleeting,
While windowpanes rattle in our homes,

I would have played Sherlock Holmes!

Why always choose these cloudy nights?
You can hardly see to play it right.
With lightning flashes your only lamp,
It must be dark in your cloudy camp.

Hide and Seek
When merry little children are out in the open,
Among trees and bushes, rocks and bracken,
To fun filled games their hearts awake,
And soon it’s time for hide and seek.
With yells and shouts, shrill cries of joy,
‘Who shall be the seeker?’ A girl or a boy?
Amid excited chatter they huddle for the chant,
To decide the one who’ll begin the count.
Meera leads them to the old jamun tree,
‘This is the trunk where the den shall be.’

Fleet of foot is little Sushil,
Behind a rock where he’d kept so still.
Off he bounds to the old jamun tree,
Den, den, den! He cries with glee.
