Margie is an 11-year-old girl who wishes she could experience schools from the past. She finds an old book about schools in Tommy's attic. The book describes schools as buildings where human teachers taught students and gave them homework. Margie attends lessons with her mechanical teacher but finds it less engaging than a traditional school. She dreams of attending an old-fashioned school like her grandfather did.
2. Margie- A girl of 11 years old who wished to
be part of the schools of the past
Tommy- A boy of 13 years who lives close to
Margie’s
Margie’s Mother- A disciplined lady who is
very careful about the hours of her study
County Inspector- Comes to repair
mechanical teacher of Margie
3. The story is set in future when children don’t
have traditional books and schools.
Margie makes a diary entry-
The date is 21 st May 2157.
The book was very old just
like the one that her
grandfather had in his
time as a student. The pages were yellow and
they were not moving.
4. Tom called it as a waste because after one
time reading it could be thrown away. Margie
also had same feeling. Tommy found that
book in the attic of his house.
That book was about school.
5. Margie heated her school and mechanical
teacher a lot. Her teacher
was not a living being. He
gave her test after tests
In Geography. She was not
doing well. Her failure in Geography had
invited an inspector who tried to trace out the
problem. Mother had asked county inspector to
come and solve the issue.
6. Margie thought that he would take the
teacher away completely but it was not so.
The inspector set the teacher right within an
hour. He told that there was nothing wrong.
The screen was too fast for the girls to
handle it properly.
Now it had been slowed down so that she
could be okay with its leval
7. On reading that book, Tommy had a
discussion about the school with Margie. Old
kinds of schools were a building common to
all and with human teachers.
He gave them tests as well as homework.
Margie wanted to know more about those
kinds of schools.
It was unique time for Tommy too for his
school and both decided to read the book
later.
8. Marie’s schoolroom was next to her bedroom.
Teacher was waiting and was on for Margie.
Her school was open everyday except
Saturday and Sunday. Margie’s mother
believed that girls learn better if they do it
regularly.
The teacher was going to teach lesson on
arithmetic .
Margie had no interest in it. She had to put
yesterday’s homework in the proper slot too
9. Margie was sitting in front of her mechanical
teacher. But she had common time and place
to study.
She was thinking about good old days when
kids have a common time and place to study.
She was thinking of school the school teacher
that used to teach them.
She was thinking of the gun they had at the
school.
