Argumentative Essay On Video Games
As previously mentioned, video gaming is a controversial topic in society. Even though video
games had been around for a while, the controversy didn't begin until the early 2000's. The idea that
video games only have a negative influence on behavior, causing increased violence, has been the
focused conception in this controversy. On the contrary, it has been demonstrated that video games
can be used positively in an educational environment, thus proving beneficial to our brain functions
and abilities. Games are popular because of the enjoyment it brings to players. The enjoyment from
playing video games is greatly determined by the games' effectiveness in teaching players to succeed
and sometimes fail difficult tasks. Morihei Ueshiba once...show more content...
One area is the medical profession, specifically focusing on surgeons. In another test done by
Aaron Kandola, "Exquisite sensorimotor skills are a necessary component of successfully
performing surgical procedures. Trainee surgeons who have experienced a greater exposure to
video games tend to become more skillful at performing surgical procedures than those who have
had limited exposure" (p.20). Hypothetically, if a patient came in for major heart surgery, they
would have a higher survival rate if they were put in the hands of the surgeon who had a higher
exposure to video games than that of a surgeon with limited exposure. This study shows that use of
video games in education can be effectively applied into major influential professions such surgeons
in the medical field.
Another profession that has benefitted from the use of video games in the educational process is
Mechanical Engineering. Richard Joiner and associates did a study regarding video games and how
it helps with the learning of engineering. Joiner said, "We found that there was significant
improvement in students learning [about engineering] after playing with Racing Academy, avideo
game specifically designed towards mechanical engineering, There was some evidence that female
undergraduate students found Racing Academy more motivating than male students" (p. 183). Video
games have influenced so much of society that it's

Persuasive Essay About Video Games
The Story of the Search
I dedicate a large amount of my time to playng video games, and I often hear claims like, "video
games rot your brain," and, "video games aren't healthy," but I wondered, are these common
arguments actually true? I decided to find out.
I already knew that there were some positive effects of video games and some negative effects, and
I also knew that too much exposure to screens in general. However, I was not sure what exactly what
the specific benefits and detriments were.
What I hoped to learn was how video games affect the brain and the body, how they helped and hurt
people, and what kinds of video games are the best and worst for you.
In my research process, I would search for a different subquestion each day, and I would look for
the most credible source I could find, and take down all the useful information. Sometimes I would
find information that opened up a new area of research and would lead me to research it more.
Using this process, I was able to find a large volume of useful, credible information and find answers
to all my questions.
The Results of The Search
I was very surprised with the results of my search, as I was expecting mostly negative effects.
However, the results were that video games had overwhelmingly positive effects on the brain. The
first piece of information I found was that according to Sage Publishing, studies showed a strong,
positive link between action video games showed and improving attention skills, brain

The majority of all children, even adults, love to play video games. From a parent's perspective,
most of the time they are surprised to find out how violent their children's games can be. Though, not
all games are violent. According to thetoptens.com, most video games include sports, car racing, and
even roleplaying ("Top 10 Greatest Video–Game Genres"). The general stereotype that parents
identify video games are in the violent section where most of them assume that because they see
their child playing something violent, they suspect that their child will also behave in a relaxed
manner. Video games are the key to our future as they progress us further into more depth, a critical
thinking way that allows us to become smarter. Without said, video games need to be embraced by
everyone.
Like sleep, your brain is like a battery that needs to be recharged every once in awhile. You can
either sleep without any food in your system or you can eat before going to sleep and be much more
energetic and aware of your surroundings. Your brain works the same way. The humanmind is a
complex system that is hard for us to understand. When things become challenging, our brains allow
us to understand how once we thought it was hard, now becomes clear, precise, and easy to learn.
There are a few key components to the outcome of playing video games. First, your reaction timing
is significantly improved my playing games that challenge your thinking process and allows you to

Video Game Violence has been a controversial topic for many years. It is easy to shift the blame
for school shootings, and other crimes on to video games; an example of this is the Columbine
High School massacre, a school shooting that occurred on April 20, 1999, where two students,
Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, went to their school and killed 12 students, one teacher, and
wounded 21 others. Because Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold were fans of video games and actively
played games such as Doom, Wolfenstein 3D, and Duke Nukem, this pushed the blame on to these
companies and would lead to lawsuits and sour the mouth of the public view of video games. That
is only one of the many that would paint a bad picture into the mind of the public. This...show more

It was said Adam Lanza's existence largely involved playing violent computer video games in a
bedroom. Another example was James Holmes and his shooting in a movie theater showing The
Dark Knight Rises. James was a frequent player of violent video games including World of
Warcraft. While they have connections to video games it was not the games them self led to the
shootings, that was their own motivation. Not everything about video games are bad, in 2012, the
video game industry added over $6.2 billion to U.S. Gross Domestic Product and has employed
more than 146,000 people with the average salary of around $94,747. Not only have video games
gave people jobs, but also helped our economy greatly. Video games also help with logical problem
solving, hand–eye coordination, planning, resource management, and multitasking. There are
many more benefits that could be added to the list, for example, video games also help with
reading, when you play video games there is lots of text that you have to read to follow the
storyline and this improves our reading skills and speed. Games like The Sims also teaches about
what it would be like to own a house or have a child and a job. So while video games are thought of
as bringing violent behaviour to their childen, its really helping them with valuable life skills that
might help them later in

Persuasive Essay On Video Games And Violence
Video Games and Violence In today's world, one of the big topics is whether video games cause
violence. I strongly believe that it isn't the case. Having been an avid gamer for most of my life and
knowing thousands more, I have seen first–hand video games do not cause violence. I know you
don't want to just take my word for it, so I will show you through others as well.
Video games in their entirety do not cause violence. When you look at the games that are out now,
most depict events in life past or present. Others go on a fairy tale ride that most people can
discern the difference. One of the biggest games of all time that go on the fairy tale ride is Grand
Theft Auto. GTA has been one of the best–selling and most controversial games ever made Kids
from all ages play it with many adults advocating for its ban. I have played and enjoyed this game
myself over the years with friends and random people on the internet. Everyone that I have come
across can always discern the difference between the game and real life. The game itself has a
beginning, middle, and end. The main goal is to get to the end. Sure, you have to do some
questionable things along the way but at the end of the day there has been no proof to link this game
to the real–world violence and crimes. A study was preformed and written on called Grand Theft
Childhood. In this study/book it states that "They found a correlation between boys playing
Mature–rated games and certain aggressive acts and other

Being a person who plays video games some being violent and others being strategy based, I
personally do not think that violent video games make or cause people to act violently. Yeah I
will say that some games could be quite graphic but even before games came out, people were
violent and acted aggressively towards each other they would fight or bully each other even kill one
another they did not even need or have to play games to do such things. People tend to have violent
tendencies even without playing a violent video game, just imagine the time you were so angry at
somebody that you wanted to harm them be it punching, slapping, or beating them up a game did
not influence you to think that way. You thought about hurting that person because you were upset
with them or something they did. Do you think that violent video games make people act
aggressively? But there are certain things that have happened where they believed people were
influenced by games such as the shooting at Columbine High School in Jefferson County, CO on
Apr. 20, 1999. "The two teenage shooters were revealed to be avid players of the weapon–based
combat games Wolfenstein 3D and Doom." [1] Karen Sternheimer, "Do video games kill?", contexts.
Feb. 2007" If you did not know anything about these two games you would believe that these games
influenced the two shooters to shoot up their high school. But knowing the actual game and what it's
about has nothing to do with killing innocent people or

Video Games Should Be A Sport Essay
Although in some ways video games are unhealthy, sould they still be a sport? Why I think this ?
Well... I'll tell you why.
The first reason that games should be a sport is that it's similar to sports. One example is soccer.
How they have championships similar to soccer games have them too. Another example is that in
other sports they have trading players. Ohh what a coincidence gaming tournaments have this too.
The last example is that in soccer you play with people around the world and guess what? Gaming
tournaments have this too. Wow! Now it looks like gaming tournaments is copying soccer.
The next reason that games should be a sport is the way it's being seen ( Not literally) . One way
this is supported is that in the article it states that

Argumentative Essay: What Are Video Games Art?
Does the art community consider video games art? And how long does it take a new cultural
form to convince people it deserves recognition? The "are video games art?" debate has been
ongoing for as long as I can remember but it has roared to life recently. Last month, an American
film critic by the name of Roger Ebert stated in an article suggesting that video games "can never
be art''. And in terms of our own local culture, an Australian film critic Lynden Barber ran a similar
argument in an Australian paper. Tens of thousands of blog posts, comments, articles began to argue
each other's points as to why video games should be considered art or not. And it would be fair to
say that there hasn't been a lot of movement between the opposing views, with both sides assuming
they are more than right....show more content...
I believe that video games are an important, often amazing, under–appreciated cultural form that is
slowly becoming a mainstream interest. I grew up with video games. PokГ©mon, Mario kart, and
even Crash Bandicoot (About to make a comeback). I loved playing them because I find them
genuinely interesting. But I'm no unabashed apologist either. But deep down computer games are an
unimaginative industry. More often than not they fall well short of their creative potential and
many people who love computer games will agree that too often video games are not created with
artwork in mind, however quite recently there is a shift in the momentum of open world map games,
such as Dragon Age, Fallout and Far Cry. Today's computer games have a lot in common with early
cinema. They draw from so many other creative cultures to create its own. They can incorporate
narrative, acting, animation, choreography, music, pictures and text to fuse them to create
something that is entirely new and can be powerful or – as I will admit is often the case –
ridiculously unpopular and

There has been a lot of controversy over violent video games and their effects on people,
especially young children and teenagers. There are many arguments for both sides of the case.
On one hand you have the people that feel as though it only makes sense that a violent video
game can cause acts of aggression to surface in the underdeveloped, adolescent mind. On the
other hand you have those who say that the hostile acts can be traced back to one or more
alternate causes. In this day and age when public acts of violence are becoming a common and
accepted occurrence, we have to look at any possible source for them with hopes of reducing the
number of these atrocities. If someone were to ask you if you think that playing violent video
games can cause a person to be violent, it would be pretty easy to say yes, because in our minds,
that just makes sense. Over 150 million americans play video games regularly. That is almost half
of America. It is especially more common for young children and teenagers to play regularly. By
this logic, if someone were to commit a violent act, there would be a fifty percent chance that the
person plays such a game. The first question you have to ask is, "Why do people play
videogames?" We have to know this before we can make a connection between violent games and
violent acts. Is america using them as an innocent pastime? Almost any parent who lets their
children play will probably tell you that it keeps them busy. If a child is busy they

Argumentative Essay On Video Game Violence
Did you know that according to Dr. Bret Conrad, the majority of gamers believe that video game
violence has few, if any harmful effects on them personally? Well, many people today play games
with simulated violence ranging from games like "Killer" to games like Grand Theft Auto. One
example, "Killer", takes place in multiple New York City high schools at the end of the year. It
consists of two teams, each student is assigned a person to shoot and they have to shoot them before
they are shot. The students have to use water pistols to shoot their person. Once they are killed, their
game is over. While some agree that games with simulated violence are perilous for teens, games
with simulated violence are beneficial for teens because they help kids with problem solving skills,
keep them busy and helps them help others.
To start with, videogames can help kids improve their problem solving skills. In the game "killer"
the students are allowed to shoot their enemy whenever they want, except at school safe zone. One
of the students, Jake Protell chased his prey to the Newark airport. After recent events at airports
guns are not allowed to be brought into the airport. instead. In the article "High–Jinks: Shoot–Out",
by Guy Martin, Martin states "Protell took a car to Newark Airport, found the victims before they
passed through security, and dispatched them using two bathtub 'squirt fish.'" By using "squirt
fish" Protell was able to go near his target without being seen and shoot him with water. Since
Protell was quick at thinking, he was able to shoot them before they passed through security
where he would have needed a passport to pass through. He also followed the rule of not bringing
firearms into the airport. If he did he might have been arrested for being thought of having a
firearm. Violent role playing games also help with problem solving because they help kids make
decisions under pressure. In the game Grand Theft Auto people can choose how they want their
game to be played (sandbox). In the article "Do Games Like 'Grand Theft Auto V' Cause
Real–World Violence?" by Erik Kain, he states, "We can drive through stop lights, mow over
civilians, crash and die and start over, get in ridiculous gunfights and still

Persuasive Essay On Video Game Violence
Fighting for Violence On July 22, 2016, an 18 year old male began to open fire on the Olympia
Shopping Mall in Munich, Germany. After successfully killing ten and injuring 36 more, the gunner
turned the firearm on himself and ended his own life. After a long investigation, it was reported that
the shooter was a fan of First Person Shooter (FPS) video games. This newfound information
sparked a new flame to the decade old argument of how video game violence leads to aggressive
behavior and more real world violence in teens and young adults. While many news posts spread the
word that videogame violence is negative, there have actually been an overwhelming amount of
studies and debates that result in videogames with violence having mental and physical benefits to
the player.
With the popularity and production of video games constantly rising since the mid 90s, you
would also imagine that the violent and illegal acts in teens would have also risen, but that is not
the case. In fact, violent acts in youth have steadily decreased during the past 20 years, and are
projected to continue to fall. While there could be many reasons for this drop in violence, the
most likely one is that the inclusion of violence in video games actually provides an outlet for
frustrated and angry teens to safely discharge their anger in the digital world, and not upon anyone
in the real world. Video games offer an area in which your mind can explore and wander with no
fear of consequences, so in

Call of Duty, Mortal Kombat, Grand Theft Auto, and Doom. Many know these games for their
violent nature, stemming from their graphic scenes or gameplay involving shooting or beating up
opponents, and these factors have caused these games to stir up quite a bit of controversy. For the
last few decades, people have debated the effects of these games on the people who play them.
Many believe those who play the games become more aggressive as a result of their violent nature,
while others argue that playing the games has no effect on one's behavior. Society should realize
that violent video games have, at most, minimal effect on players' behavior. The most extensive
argument many have argued toward violent video games affecting one's behavior can simply be
described as that many shooters were fans of violent video games before committing the shootings.
A common example people making this argument raise are the Columbine shooters, who were big
fans of the video game Doom. While many believe that Doom's excessive gore and violence led the
two teens to perpetrate the mass shooting, that is not the case. What those who argue against video
games fail to realize that those who commit these crimes had a history of other conditions. After
many mass shootings, researchers often discovered in autopsies that the suspect had a long history
of aggression or mental health problems that gaming was not responsible for. Patrick Markey and
Christopher J. Ferguson, writers for US News, wrote

Argumentative Essay On Video Games
What is a Smart Game? And what makes them so "smart"? Often, video games are viewed as
simply another asinine form of time consumption, leaving little to the player. Little growth is to be
gained from the experience of playing, aside from, say, hand eye coordination. It is popularly
believed that video games do the very opposite actually, numbing your brain and desensitizing you to
the often violent imagery that occupies so much of digital entertainment today. However, video
games in recent years have begun to prove themselves useful for a variety of ways, ranging from the
introduction of motion gaming (Nintendo Wii, 2006), to cameras tracking body movements (Kinect,
2010), to virtual reality (Oculus Rift, 2016), each riding the coattails of the previous technological
advance. What destination is the leading to? "Smart Games," video games developed for remedial
purposes, appears to be just over the horizon.
Video games are generally viewed as a leisure activity at best and a mental deterioration activity at
worse. Games provide an immersive experience to the gamer, so one is left to wonder what
exactly is going on inside the mind of the gamer. Burnt corneas, brain damage, and even increased
risk of dementia are all concerns associated with long exposure to video games. Researchers at
UMontreal found that young adults who played "shooter" games possessed depleted levels of white
matter in their hippocampus, the part of the brain responsible for awareness, orientation, and the

even interactive films. Bissell says "I came to accept that games were incompetent with almost every
aspect of what I would call traditional narrative." This is showing the readers that even though there
is a plot and story line, as characters can control and alter the story line or outcome by what you do

My research shows that about four hundred billion eighty nine million four hundred thirty seven
thousand eight hundred forty seven video games are created each year worldwide, with those kind
of numbers any one person could play games for their whole life and not even put a dent in it, it is
very overwhelming. With more and more children spending time on video games society changes
a little more. Being able to play games without the internet makes it easier to play but for those
that do have internet for their video games seem to spend twice the amount of time playing
because they are playing with friends and talk and IM during the game. Reading this essay has
caused me to do more research on this specific topic and the things I have found are disturbing.
Video games change your mind set, your way of thinking and can affect you for the rest of your
life, so when it comes to the violent video games we are turning into a more violent society. It has
been studied that playing video games can affect your dreams, and your dreams affect how you
feel and treat people, it's a never ending circle. Through playing video games we are spending less
and less time with one another and I think it's a crying shame. We as a society are naturally social
people and the fact that with our recent technology we have become more and more independent.

Argumentative Essay On Video Games
Video games has been a very controversial topic for me in the past. I have always wandered are the
children that play video games better than the children that do not? Are the children benefiting from
them? They are using their hand–eye coordination while becoming part of a story. In the meantime,
they could be missing out on other important things like create their own real games while
socializing with others or spend more time with family and friends. How about all the violent themes
I see when they play video games, and even the games that are rated for their age group are many
times violent? How about addiction to video games and not getting enough physical activities and
fresh air? If we do not let them play at home, they will be playing at their friends' houses. These
questions have been bothering me for a long time. Other times, I would find my teenage boys on the
weekend safely being entertained with their virtual friends playing video games and even talking to
them. I would feel thankful for the video games. I would not want them to be wandering out at night
to meet friends or to be entertained. They are learning to read and follow stories. Then I would
wonder what kind of life skills could videos give them in the real world? For one example, when I
was their age, I was doing real gardening, and they are doing it on the computer. I even talked about
it with other people that have children that play video games. From this lesson, I want to learn

Argumentative Essay About Video Games "Teenagers today often spend a great deal of time
playing video games. These games are fun and engaging and young people often feel like playing
games is a great thing to do in their spare time. However, you shouldn't spend too much time
gaming and there are a number of reasons for this: it's unhealthy, you should spend more time

you're healthy and on video games, you're socializing with other players around the world, also
there are school studying games too or they don't have to study because there are smart people

has to be that youths that spend a long time on computers and games consoles are often not getting
enough exercise. With high obesity rates, it's very important for young people to spend as much
time being active as possible, especially since studies show that people who are overweight during

Argumentative Essay On Video Games
In the past 30 years, video games have had a major impact on how people spend their leisure time.
The first generation of video games were nothing more than simple geometric shapes, one or more
of which could be controlled by the game player. Each generation of games always uses the newest
technologies available, leading to more impressive graphics and realism. Along with these modern
technologies come more realistic violent acts and situations. Also with each new generation of
video games, people are spending more time and money on them. The term video games will be
used to define any interactive multimedia in which the human player has control over the main
"character" in a simulated game world. This can include all types of video games such as those
played on arcade machines, home consoles, hand–held consoles, and personal computers.
First, we must know what a video game is. They are electronic games where a person may use
some type of controller to generate some sort of response. One of the first video games ever was
created in 1952, called tennis for two, used an oscilloscope for a display. Over the years video
games have become more advanced in recent years, becoming a worldwide phenomenon. Some
games today, like World of Warcraft and League of Legends can have more people playing those
games at the same time than certain countries have in their entire populations. Yet, with this
revolution came many controversies, such as the inclusion of violence in games and how

Video Games What is a video game? A video game is any of various interactive games played
using a specialized electronic gaming device or a computer or mobile device and a television or
other display screen, along with a means to control graphic images ("Video Game"). Video
games came from the research labs of scientists before they hit the tv screens (History.com Staff).
Video games have been around for decades, but society is at a disadvantage on whether or not video
games are a good concept or do they just bring out the worst in people? Video games are a great
part of life because they teach people about improving hand–eye coordination, making better
decisions, and learning about the challenges that people have to face in the real world. Video
games were made for the entertainment of children and anyone else who found video games
interesting. They are a way to get away from reality and relax. When you have had a rough day,
you can come home and escape reality by putting yourself into a different mindset. Video games
also release tension in your body while your mind does all of the work. "Research to date suggests
that playing video games can change the brain regions responsible for attention and visuospatial
skills and make them more efficient" (Frontiers). As explained in this quote, playing video games
can make your brain power more accelerated than any other normal person who doesn't play video
games. They can also increase your mind's ability to think. You might have

Argumentative Essay On Video Games
Video games have been growing rapidly in popularity in recent years. They are already a 91 billion
dollar industry and they're not slowing down anytime soon. Kids, teenagers and even adults are
spending couple of hours every week just playing video games. Though video games have been
criticized for being mindless entertainment with no educational value, I disagree. They can be as
effective or even more so than the traditional teaching methods we use to teach right now.
How can they be more effective? Some might ask. Well for starters, most student these days hate
reading books. That's not a good thing since books are the most common source of knowledge.
Video games can provide a totally different learning process than traditional books. Where students
can learn by just playing a game. This might sound too good to be true but it is true. Video games
are able to teach the player about a concept easily. Like for example, students who play football
games like FIFA learn about the different rules about the actual game. A student who has no idea
about the concept of football can simply learn just by playing a simple video game. Yes, these video
games provide entertainment value or else the players won't be motivated enough to play the game
but what these video games also have is the power to teach. This education aspect of video games is
often neglected where it can be easily put up to good use.
Video games can be used to teach a particular language. There are already many games

Video Games Educational Benefits Surgeons Engineers

  • 1. Argumentative Essay On Video Games As previously mentioned, video gaming is a controversial topic in society. Even though video games had been around for a while, the controversy didn't begin until the early 2000's. The idea that video games only have a negative influence on behavior, causing increased violence, has been the focused conception in this controversy. On the contrary, it has been demonstrated that video games can be used positively in an educational environment, thus proving beneficial to our brain functions and abilities. Games are popular because of the enjoyment it brings to players. The enjoyment from playing video games is greatly determined by the games' effectiveness in teaching players to succeed and sometimes fail difficult tasks. Morihei Ueshiba once...show more content... One area is the medical profession, specifically focusing on surgeons. In another test done by Aaron Kandola, "Exquisite sensorimotor skills are a necessary component of successfully performing surgical procedures. Trainee surgeons who have experienced a greater exposure to video games tend to become more skillful at performing surgical procedures than those who have had limited exposure" (p.20). Hypothetically, if a patient came in for major heart surgery, they would have a higher survival rate if they were put in the hands of the surgeon who had a higher exposure to video games than that of a surgeon with limited exposure. This study shows that use of video games in education can be effectively applied into major influential professions such surgeons in the medical field. Another profession that has benefitted from the use of video games in the educational process is Mechanical Engineering. Richard Joiner and associates did a study regarding video games and how it helps with the learning of engineering. Joiner said, "We found that there was significant improvement in students learning [about engineering] after playing with Racing Academy, avideo game specifically designed towards mechanical engineering, There was some evidence that female undergraduate students found Racing Academy more motivating than male students" (p. 183). Video games have influenced so much of society that it's Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Persuasive Essay About Video Games The Story of the Search I dedicate a large amount of my time to playng video games, and I often hear claims like, "video games rot your brain," and, "video games aren't healthy," but I wondered, are these common arguments actually true? I decided to find out. I already knew that there were some positive effects of video games and some negative effects, and I also knew that too much exposure to screens in general. However, I was not sure what exactly what the specific benefits and detriments were. What I hoped to learn was how video games affect the brain and the body, how they helped and hurt people, and what kinds of video games are the best and worst for you. In my research process, I would search for a different subquestion each day, and I would look for the most credible source I could find, and take down all the useful information. Sometimes I would find information that opened up a new area of research and would lead me to research it more. Using this process, I was able to find a large volume of useful, credible information and find answers to all my questions. The Results of The Search I was very surprised with the results of my search, as I was expecting mostly negative effects. However, the results were that video games had overwhelmingly positive effects on the brain. The first piece of information I found was that according to Sage Publishing, studies showed a strong, positive link between action video games showed and improving attention skills, brain Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Argumentative Essay On Video Games The majority of all children, even adults, love to play video games. From a parent's perspective, most of the time they are surprised to find out how violent their children's games can be. Though, not all games are violent. According to thetoptens.com, most video games include sports, car racing, and even roleplaying ("Top 10 Greatest Video–Game Genres"). The general stereotype that parents identify video games are in the violent section where most of them assume that because they see their child playing something violent, they suspect that their child will also behave in a relaxed manner. Video games are the key to our future as they progress us further into more depth, a critical thinking way that allows us to become smarter. Without said, video games need to be embraced by everyone. Like sleep, your brain is like a battery that needs to be recharged every once in awhile. You can either sleep without any food in your system or you can eat before going to sleep and be much more energetic and aware of your surroundings. Your brain works the same way. The humanmind is a complex system that is hard for us to understand. When things become challenging, our brains allow us to understand how once we thought it was hard, now becomes clear, precise, and easy to learn. There are a few key components to the outcome of playing video games. First, your reaction timing is significantly improved my playing games that challenge your thinking process and allows you to make decisions on Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Video Game Violence has been a controversial topic for many years. It is easy to shift the blame for school shootings, and other crimes on to video games; an example of this is the Columbine High School massacre, a school shooting that occurred on April 20, 1999, where two students, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, went to their school and killed 12 students, one teacher, and wounded 21 others. Because Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold were fans of video games and actively played games such as Doom, Wolfenstein 3D, and Duke Nukem, this pushed the blame on to these companies and would lead to lawsuits and sour the mouth of the public view of video games. That is only one of the many that would paint a bad picture into the mind of the public. This...show more content... It was said Adam Lanza's existence largely involved playing violent computer video games in a bedroom. Another example was James Holmes and his shooting in a movie theater showing The Dark Knight Rises. James was a frequent player of violent video games including World of Warcraft. While they have connections to video games it was not the games them self led to the shootings, that was their own motivation. Not everything about video games are bad, in 2012, the video game industry added over $6.2 billion to U.S. Gross Domestic Product and has employed more than 146,000 people with the average salary of around $94,747. Not only have video games gave people jobs, but also helped our economy greatly. Video games also help with logical problem solving, hand–eye coordination, planning, resource management, and multitasking. There are many more benefits that could be added to the list, for example, video games also help with reading, when you play video games there is lots of text that you have to read to follow the storyline and this improves our reading skills and speed. Games like The Sims also teaches about what it would be like to own a house or have a child and a job. So while video games are thought of as bringing violent behaviour to their childen, its really helping them with valuable life skills that might help them later in Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Persuasive Essay On Video Games And Violence Video Games and Violence In today's world, one of the big topics is whether video games cause violence. I strongly believe that it isn't the case. Having been an avid gamer for most of my life and knowing thousands more, I have seen first–hand video games do not cause violence. I know you don't want to just take my word for it, so I will show you through others as well. Video games in their entirety do not cause violence. When you look at the games that are out now, most depict events in life past or present. Others go on a fairy tale ride that most people can discern the difference. One of the biggest games of all time that go on the fairy tale ride is Grand Theft Auto. GTA has been one of the best–selling and most controversial games ever made Kids from all ages play it with many adults advocating for its ban. I have played and enjoyed this game myself over the years with friends and random people on the internet. Everyone that I have come across can always discern the difference between the game and real life. The game itself has a beginning, middle, and end. The main goal is to get to the end. Sure, you have to do some questionable things along the way but at the end of the day there has been no proof to link this game to the real–world violence and crimes. A study was preformed and written on called Grand Theft Childhood. In this study/book it states that "They found a correlation between boys playing Mature–rated games and certain aggressive acts and other Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Being a person who plays video games some being violent and others being strategy based, I personally do not think that violent video games make or cause people to act violently. Yeah I will say that some games could be quite graphic but even before games came out, people were violent and acted aggressively towards each other they would fight or bully each other even kill one another they did not even need or have to play games to do such things. People tend to have violent tendencies even without playing a violent video game, just imagine the time you were so angry at somebody that you wanted to harm them be it punching, slapping, or beating them up a game did not influence you to think that way. You thought about hurting that person because you were upset with them or something they did. Do you think that violent video games make people act aggressively? But there are certain things that have happened where they believed people were influenced by games such as the shooting at Columbine High School in Jefferson County, CO on Apr. 20, 1999. "The two teenage shooters were revealed to be avid players of the weapon–based combat games Wolfenstein 3D and Doom." [1] Karen Sternheimer, "Do video games kill?", contexts. Feb. 2007" If you did not know anything about these two games you would believe that these games influenced the two shooters to shoot up their high school. • 7. Video Games Should Be A Sport Essay Although in some ways video games are unhealthy, sould they still be a sport? Why I think this ? Well... I'll tell you why. The first reason that games should be a sport is that it's similar to sports. One example is soccer. How they have championships similar to soccer games have them too. Another example is that in other sports they have trading players. Ohh what a coincidence gaming tournaments have this too. The last example is that in soccer you play with people around the world and guess what? Gaming tournaments have this too. Wow! Now it looks like gaming tournaments is copying soccer. The next reason that games should be a sport is the way it's being seen ( Not literally) . One way this is supported is that in the article it states that Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Argumentative Essay: What Are Video Games Art? Does the art community consider video games art? And how long does it take a new cultural form to convince people it deserves recognition? The "are video games art?" debate has been ongoing for as long as I can remember but it has roared to life recently. Last month, an American film critic by the name of Roger Ebert stated in an article suggesting that video games "can never be art''. And in terms of our own local culture, an Australian film critic Lynden Barber ran a similar argument in an Australian paper. Tens of thousands of blog posts, comments, articles began to argue each other's points as to why video games should be considered art or not. And it would be fair to say that there hasn't been a lot of movement between the opposing views, with both sides assuming they are more than right....show more content... I believe that video games are an important, often amazing, under–appreciated cultural form that is slowly becoming a mainstream interest. I grew up with video games. PokГ©mon, Mario kart, and even Crash Bandicoot (About to make a comeback). I loved playing them because I find them genuinely interesting. But I'm no unabashed apologist either. But deep down computer games are an unimaginative industry. More often than not they fall well short of their creative potential and many people who love computer games will agree that too often video games are not created with artwork in mind, however quite recently there is a shift in the momentum of open world map games, such as Dragon Age, Fallout and Far Cry. Today's computer games have a lot in common with early cinema. They draw from so many other creative cultures to create its own. They can incorporate narrative, acting, animation, choreography, music, pictures and text to fuse them to create something that is entirely new and can be powerful or – as I will admit is often the case – ridiculously unpopular and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. There has been a lot of controversy over violent video games and their effects on people, especially young children and teenagers. There are many arguments for both sides of the case. On one hand you have the people that feel as though it only makes sense that a violent video game can cause acts of aggression to surface in the underdeveloped, adolescent mind. On the other hand you have those who say that the hostile acts can be traced back to one or more alternate causes. In this day and age when public acts of violence are becoming a common and accepted occurrence, we have to look at any possible source for them with hopes of reducing the number of these atrocities. If someone were to ask you if you think that playing violent video games can cause a person to be violent, it would be pretty easy to say yes, because in our minds, that just makes sense. Over 150 million americans play video games regularly. That is almost half of America. It is especially more common for young children and teenagers to play regularly. By this logic, if someone were to commit a violent act, there would be a fifty percent chance that the person plays such a game. The first question you have to ask is, "Why do people play videogames?" We have to know this before we can make a connection between violent games and violent acts. Is america using them as an innocent pastime? Almost any parent who lets their children play will probably tell you that it keeps them busy. If a child is busy they Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Argumentative Essay On Video Game Violence Did you know that according to Dr. Bret Conrad, the majority of gamers believe that video game violence has few, if any harmful effects on them personally? Well, many people today play games with simulated violence ranging from games like "Killer" to games like Grand Theft Auto. One example, "Killer", takes place in multiple New York City high schools at the end of the year. It consists of two teams, each student is assigned a person to shoot and they have to shoot them before they are shot. The students have to use water pistols to shoot their person. Once they are killed, their game is over. While some agree that games with simulated violence are perilous for teens, games with simulated violence are beneficial for teens because they help kids with problem solving skills, keep them busy and helps them help others. To start with, videogames can help kids improve their problem solving skills. In the game "killer" the students are allowed to shoot their enemy whenever they want, except at school safe zone. One of the students, Jake Protell chased his prey to the Newark airport. After recent events at airports guns are not allowed to be brought into the airport. instead. In the article "High–Jinks: Shoot–Out", by Guy Martin, Martin states "Protell took a car to Newark Airport, found the victims before they passed through security, and dispatched them using two bathtub 'squirt fish.'" By using "squirt fish" Protell was able to go near his target without being seen and shoot him with water. Since Protell was quick at thinking, he was able to shoot them before they passed through security where he would have needed a passport to pass through. He also followed the rule of not bringing firearms into the airport. If he did he might have been arrested for being thought of having a firearm. Violent role playing games also help with problem solving because they help kids make decisions under pressure. In the game Grand Theft Auto people can choose how they want their game to be played (sandbox). In the article "Do Games Like 'Grand Theft Auto V' Cause Real–World Violence?" by Erik Kain, he states, "We can drive through stop lights, mow over civilians, crash and die and start over, get in ridiculous gunfights and still Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Persuasive Essay On Video Game Violence Fighting for Violence On July 22, 2016, an 18 year old male began to open fire on the Olympia Shopping Mall in Munich, Germany. After successfully killing ten and injuring 36 more, the gunner turned the firearm on himself and ended his own life. After a long investigation, it was reported that the shooter was a fan of First Person Shooter (FPS) video games. This newfound information sparked a new flame to the decade old argument of how video game violence leads to aggressive behavior and more real world violence in teens and young adults. While many news posts spread the word that videogame violence is negative, there have actually been an overwhelming amount of studies and debates that result in videogames with violence having mental and physical benefits to the player. With the popularity and production of video games constantly rising since the mid 90s, you would also imagine that the violent and illegal acts in teens would have also risen, but that is not the case. In fact, violent acts in youth have steadily decreased during the past 20 years, and are projected to continue to fall. While there could be many reasons for this drop in violence, the most likely one is that the inclusion of violence in video games actually provides an outlet for frustrated and angry teens to safely discharge their anger in the digital world, and not upon anyone in the real world. Video games offer an area in which your mind can explore and wander with no fear of consequences, so in Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Argumentative Essay On Violent Video Games Call of Duty, Mortal Kombat, Grand Theft Auto, and Doom. Many know these games for their violent nature, stemming from their graphic scenes or gameplay involving shooting or beating up opponents, and these factors have caused these games to stir up quite a bit of controversy. For the last few decades, people have debated the effects of these games on the people who play them. Many believe those who play the games become more aggressive as a result of their violent nature, while others argue that playing the games has no effect on one's behavior. Society should realize that violent video games have, at most, minimal effect on players' behavior. The most extensive argument many have argued toward violent video games affecting one's behavior can simply be described as that many shooters were fans of violent video games before committing the shootings. A common example people making this argument raise are the Columbine shooters, who were big fans of the video game Doom. While many believe that Doom's excessive gore and violence led the two teens to perpetrate the mass shooting, that is not the case. What those who argue against video games fail to realize that those who commit these crimes had a history of other conditions. After many mass shootings, researchers often discovered in autopsies that the suspect had a long history of aggression or mental health problems that gaming was not responsible for. • 13. Argumentative Essay On Video Games What is a Smart Game? And what makes them so "smart"? Often, video games are viewed as simply another asinine form of time consumption, leaving little to the player. Little growth is to be gained from the experience of playing, aside from, say, hand eye coordination. It is popularly believed that video games do the very opposite actually, numbing your brain and desensitizing you to the often violent imagery that occupies so much of digital entertainment today. However, video games in recent years have begun to prove themselves useful for a variety of ways, ranging from the introduction of motion gaming (Nintendo Wii, 2006), to cameras tracking body movements (Kinect, 2010), to virtual reality (Oculus Rift, 2016), each riding the coattails of the previous technological advance. What destination is the leading to? "Smart Games," video games developed for remedial purposes, appears to be just over the horizon. Video games are generally viewed as a leisure activity at best and a mental deterioration activity at worse. Games provide an immersive experience to the gamer, so one is left to wonder what exactly is going on inside the mind of the gamer. Burnt corneas, brain damage, and even increased risk of dementia are all concerns associated with long exposure to video games. Researchers at UMontreal found that young adults who played "shooter" games possessed depleted levels of white matter in their hippocampus, the part of the brain responsible for awareness, orientation, and the Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Professor Yates English 101 12 May 2013 Summary and Response Tom Bissell, in his essay, "Extra Lives: Why Video Games Matter" has described video games and how they are unique and different from movies, books, or even interactive films. Bissell says "I came to accept that games were incompetent with almost every aspect of what I would call traditional narrative." This is showing the readers that even though there is a plot and story line, as characters can control and alter the story line or outcome by what you do or see throughout the game. My research shows that about four hundred billion eighty nine million four hundred thirty seven thousand eight hundred forty seven video games are created each year worldwide, with those kind of numbers any one person could play games for their whole life and not even put a dent in it, it is very overwhelming. With more and more children spending time on video games society changes a little more. Being able to play games without the internet makes it easier to play but for those that do have internet for their video games seem to spend twice the amount of time playing because they are playing with friends and talk and IM during the game. Reading this essay has caused me to do more research on this specific topic and the things I have found are disturbing. Video games change your mind set, your way of thinking and can affect you for the rest of your life, so when it comes to the violent video games we are turning into a more violent society. It has been studied that playing video games can affect your dreams, and your dreams affect how you feel and treat people, it's a never ending circle. Through playing video games we are spending less and less time with one another and I think it's a crying shame. We as a society are naturally social people and the fact that with our recent technology we have become more and more independent. • 15. Argumentative Essay On Video Games Video games has been a very controversial topic for me in the past. I have always wandered are the children that play video games better than the children that do not? Are the children benefiting from them? They are using their hand–eye coordination while becoming part of a story. In the meantime, they could be missing out on other important things like create their own real games while socializing with others or spend more time with family and friends. How about all the violent themes I see when they play video games, and even the games that are rated for their age group are many times violent? How about addiction to video games and not getting enough physical activities and fresh air? If we do not let them play at home, they will be playing at their friends' houses. These questions have been bothering me for a long time. Other times, I would find my teenage boys on the weekend safely being entertained with their virtual friends playing video games and even talking to them. I would feel thankful for the video games. I would not want them to be wandering out at night to meet friends or to be entertained. They are learning to read and follow stories. Then I would wonder what kind of life skills could videos give them in the real world? For one example, when I was their age, I was doing real gardening, and they are doing it on the computer. I even talked about it with other people that have children that play video games. From this lesson, I want to learn finally if video Get more content on HelpWriting.net

These games are fun and engaging and young people often feel like playing games is a great thing to do in their spare time. However, you shouldn't spend too much time gaming and there are a number of reasons for this: it's unhealthy, you should spend more time studying, and you need to socialize more." This paragraph is from a persuasive essay about video games written by The Scholar Advisor, they're saying that teenagers shouldn't spend a lot of time on video games because it's unhealthy, we need to socialize more, and that we should spend more time studying. Well some are true but some do not cause if you're eating every day then you're healthy and on video games, you're socializing with other players around the world, also there are school studying games too or they don't have to study because there are smart people playing video games. The second paragraph says "The primary reason to cut down on gaming time has to be that youths that spend a long time on computers and games consoles are often not getting enough exercise. With high obesity rates, it's very important for young people to spend as much time being active as possible, especially since studies show that people who are overweight during childhood and adolescence are far more likely to become overweight adults than those of a healthy weight when they're young.
