1. Over 50 Palawanos from across Europe gathered in Vienna, Austria for the first ever "1st Palawano baragatan sa Europa 2012" to celebrate their culture and strengthen relationships.
2. Baragatan is a month-long festival in Palawan commemorating its founding anniversary with cultural presentations, competitions, and trade fairs. This gathering in Vienna involved a simple reunion, city tour, and visits to neighboring countries.
3. The event aims to promote Palawan's sustainable tourism industry in Europe, such as the Underground River, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and source of pride for Palawanos and Filipinos.

The five (5) days “1st Palawano baragatan” sa
Europa was successfully done few days ago.
Almost 50 participants from the different
countries in Europe came. It was hosted by
Palawenos living in Vienna and friends.

The word “baragatan” is a Cuyuno word
“bagat”, means “coming together or gathering”
is a month long activity in the province
commemorating the Founding Anniversary of
the Civil Government of Palawan, where the
Palawenos are celebrating its culture and history
every month of June. During the “baragatan”
the local government from the 27 municipalities
and its people are bringing their crops to sell in
the City.

It is also the time that where they could showcase
their different ethnic
culture, song, music, traditional or ritual dances
through a cultural presentation.
Other activities includes; search for Miss Palawan
and coronation night, song writing contest, street
dancing competition, trade and food fair
, exhibition and float parade.
Now in modern time, there are nightly shows and
sounds of the era; pop, rock and disco, live band
tunes for the young ones.

But the recent event concluded in
Vienna, Austria is just merely the usual and very
simple “gathering” and knowing to each other.
It was followed by a city tour and visited the
neighboring countries. The participants took a
vacation from their jobs only to partake in the
said event.

The other purpose of holding “baragatan sa
Europa” is to promote Palawan sustainable
tourism industry in Europe. A year ago, Princesa
City was declared as the ecotourism capital of
the Philippines.
Recently the famous Underground River is
reputed to be the world’s longest is one of the
new 7 Wonders of the World, now a source of
pride of all Palawenos and Filipinos.

Khalil Mitra send his sincere and warm
congratulations to the Organizers, participants
and to all Palawenos in Europe. He also
said, this is a very good sign of unity and
strengthening the relationship of Palawenos
even they are away from home due to the spirit
of Baragatan.

The next baragatan will be in Barcelona, Spain
on the first week of August 2013. The organizers
are expecting more attendees to join the said
event.
