One of the first things you need to know when you start using a new facial care system is how to use the products. Using products in the wrong order means that you aren’t getting the most benefit from them. As a general rule, apply your facial care products lightest to heaviest after cleansing. Topical prescription medications should usually be applied first (after cleansing) so there is nothing between them and your skin.
Cleansers remove dirt, oil, and other impurities from the skin. Cleansing should always be the first step of your skin care system so you don’t wash away any of the product that’s meant to stay on. Both the TePoemä Cleansing Gel or Cleansing Oil can be used during the Deep Cleanse Mode of the Defy Ultraderm Therapy device. See the device instruction video or booklet for detailed instructions. When using the Cleansing Oil in Deep Cleanse Mode, emulsify it first (mix a little water with the Cleansing Oil in your hand until it turns white).
The Microderm Treatment device should be used on a make-up-free face after cleansing. See the device instruction video or booklet for detailed instructions.
Toners are used to balance, prepare, and lightly hydrate the skin. Because they also help remove any impurities that may be left on the skin, they are best used immediately after cleansing (or after using the Microderm Treatment device).
Serums are fluid beauty products that feel light on the skin. They typically absorb deeper into the skin than creams do, so it is best to apply your serum before any facial creams. For maximum absorption into the skin, the serum should be used with Permeate Mode on the Defy Ultraderm Therapy device. See the device instruction video or booklet for detailed instructions.
The skin around the eyes is very delicate, and eye creams are specifically formulated to address concerns in this sensitive area. Eye cream should be applied before face creams so you don’t risk rubbing it into your eyes.
Facial creams moisturize and protect the skin. They should be applied last to help seal in the other products you have applied. Sunscreen should be applied after your daily moisturizer.

The Microderm Treatment device should be used after cleansing and before you apply any other product.
Deep Cleanse Mode on the Ultraderm Therapy device should be used with your cleanser; Permeate Mode with your serum. If you are using both the Microderm and Ultraderm devices, do not use the Deep Cleanse Mode on the same day you perform a Microderm treatment.
