2. Convention – Usually tragedies involve someone being severely sick and having little time left before they pass
away. Stereotypically the character which is sick in some way has a friend/partner/family member which is
doing everything they can to keep them motivated. Usually dull colours are used to set a mood for the
audience and natural / no lighting is used. The narrative structure is also stereotypical and as told by Todorov
most tragedies have a romantic link to them.
TRAGEDY

3. Inspirational – Tragedies are more commonly becoming linked with true stories to generate more attention
from the audience.
What I find inspirational is using true stories as a base for movie making. It allows the audience to create a
connection with the movie and have a emotional link.
A example of this is ‘’letters to God’’ which is based on a true story about a sick child which likes to write
letters to God.
