2. The idea…
As
Rachel and I decided that we wanted
to use the theme of Brownies and Guides
throughout our thriller film, we needed the
perfect location to set up tents, logs and
campfires.
We came up with suggestions of open
fields or activity centers where it would be
easy to create the atmosphere we
wanted, as opposed to a false set.
3. Close to home?
Before
the school year had started, I
recently moved house. At the back of my
house, there are vast fields, woods and
even a nature reserve. This was a
plausible location as to where we would
shoot our thriller film. I looked up some
details and discovered that it is actually
common for people to go camping there.
It would additionally be easy to gather all
the cast and crew to the set.
5. But…
Although
the Bentley Priory Nature
Reserve was close to home and ticked all
our boxes, we decided that this was not
the right choice for us as we were unable
to create a campfire there as it is public
property.
Since the campfire is such a crucial part
of the mise-en-scene of our title
sequence, we decided that this place
was not for us.
6. Activity centers…
As
Rachel is a Brownies and Guides leader
herself, she came up with a list of different
places she had been camping before.
Together, we cancelled out all the options
that were too far from home or not
suitable for what we particularly wanted,
and came up with a short list of sites and
activity centers that would fit the bill.
13. Conclusion…
These
were the three locations we
narrowed the list down to, but in the end
it was the Phasels Wood Activity Centre
that we picked to film our thriller title
sequence in.
We chose this location as it is only a 20
minute drive from our houses and was
exactly where we imagined the scene to
look like in our minds.
14. Can we get it?
Once
we had chosen this location to film in,
we called up the activity centre and
explained what our situation was and when
we wanted to film by.
Since Rachel was already well known there,
they were more than happy to comply and
told us to just email them before we wanted
to come and then they would set everything
up for us, tents and campfire included.
