1. Why AZ?
If you are thinking of moving to Arizona, or the Phoenix Area in particular, here is a list that I
made of why you might consider moving here…
Why Phoenix?
Cost of living: Often the most important thing. Living in Phoenix is very affordable when
compared to our neighbors in California, or our friends in the East Coast. The most obvious
example is the cost of a home. You can easily get double the amount of house in Phoenix for
the money you would pay in California.
Weather and climate: Phoenix has over 300 days of sunshine a year, and while the summer
can be a blistering heat, I’ve heard overwhelmingly from non-AZ natives that the “dry heat” is
much more bearable than the humid summers endured in most other states. But with the state
getting so much sun for the vast majority of the year, you’ll more often than not be enjoying the
clear skies in the winter and autumn or soaking up sun at the pool during the spring and
summer.
Sports: The Arizona Cardinals, the Phoenix Suns, the Arizona Diamondbacks, and the Phoenix
Coyotes offer spectators entertainment in great facilities in Downtown Phoenix and nearby
Glendale. Tempe is also home to the Arizona State Sun Devils for alumni and those who enjoy
college football. You can also see your favorite baseball teams practice their spring training at
the Salt River Fields.
Shopping and Nightlife: Downtown Phoenix, Old Town Scottsdale, and Mill Avenue in Tempe
provide shopping, restaurants, and active nightlife to the Phoenix Metropolitan Area. Old Town
in particular is located adjacent to Scottsdale Fashion Square, the premier shopping mall of the
Phoenix Area. Other shopping centers include Paradise Valley Mall, Chandler Fashion Center,
and the Biltmore Fashion Park.
Hiking and Water Recreation: They call us the Valley for a reason! With the McDowell
Mountains, Four Peaks, The Superstitions, South Mountains, and the White Tank Mountains
surrounding the city, and Piestewa Peak and Camelback in the middle, a hiker of any skill level
can enjoy and experience nature in a desert landscape. You can also enjoy a nice day at Lake
Pleasant or go tubing down the Salt River.
Easy to get around: the Phoenix Area is served by several freeways that cut through and
around the metropolitan area, as well as a light rail system that began service in 2009. From my
own experience, and living in North Central Phoenix and Tempe, I can usually get anywhere I
want to in the city in 25 minutes or less.
Golf: To say we have a lot of golf courses in Phoenix, would be an understatement.
Central location: the Phoenix Area is a convenient flight or road trip to Las Vegas, Los
