4. Pat Robertson wrote;
“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy,
is a command for the personal benefit to
each citizen. Our minds, spirits, and bodies
demand a regular time of rest. Perhaps
God’s greatest gift to mankind’s earthly
existence is the ability to be free from work
one day a week.”
(The New World Order, Pg. 236)
5. Pope John Paul II -- Dies Domini # 16
“The commandment of the Decalogue by
which God decrees the Sabbath observance
is formulated in the Book of Exodus in a
distinctive way: ‘Remember the Sabbath day
in order to keep it holy’ (20:8).
6. Pope John Paul II -- Dies Domini
“And the inspired text goes on to give the
reason for this, recalling as it does the work
of God: "For in six days the Lord made heaven
and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and
rested on the seventh day; therefore the Lord
blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy" (v.
11).
Before decreeing that something be done,
the commandment urges that something be
remembered.”
7. Pope John Paul II -- Dies Domini
“It is a call to awaken remembrance of the
grand and fundamental work of God which is
creation, a remembrance which must inspire
the entire religious life of man and then fill
the day on which man is called to rest. Rest
therefore acquires a sacred value: the faithful
are called to rest not only as God rested, but
to rest in the Lord, bringing the entire
creation to him, in praise and thanksgiving,
intimate as a child and friendly as a spouse.”
8. Dr. James Kennedy, Coral Ridge Presbyterian
Church, Fort Lauderdale FL, 11 /4 / 2001
“God so loved the human race that He gave us
the Sabbath. In fact, before the state, before
the church, before even the family, the first
institution that God gave to mankind was the
Sabbath. Having created the heavens and the
earth and all things therein, he rested on the
seventh day and blessed the seventh day and
hallowed it. And He commands us to keep it
as such, because He loves us. And if we love
Him we will love His Sabbath.”
9. Dr. James Kennedy, Coral Ridge Presbyterian
Church, Fort Lauderdale FL, 11 /4 / 2001
“The Sabbath, the first institution given to
man, is one that is vitally important. It is the
longest commandment of the ten, more words
dedicated to that throughout the rest of the
scripture, mentioned more than virtually any
other, and it was a very serious matter. God
intended us to keep it.”
10. Christianity Today editorial, November 2003
“Our churches and families need to return to
a Sabbath consciousness that can provide a
platform for countercultural witness.”

61. 12. What are the identifying marks of
the little horn power?
a. Verses 8 & 24 - Rose out of the fourth beast.
b. Verse 24 – Appeared after the ten horns.
c. Verses 8 & 20 – Little at first, became great.
d. Verses 8 & 24 – Subdued 3 kings.
e. Verse 24 - Different from the rest.

h. Verse 25 – Persecutes the saints.
i. Verse 25 – Speaks against the Most High.
62. 13. Who, or what power, is
represented by
the little horn?
The Roman Papacy
63. (a) The Papacy was established during the
rule of Rome, the fourth beast.
(b) It was seen after the division of Rome
into the ten kingdoms of Europe.
(c) It was not a major power at first, but
over time grew,
(d) eventually supplanting 3 kingdoms
(Heruli in 493, Vandals in 534, Ostrogoths
in 538).
64.
65. 13. Who, or what power is represented by
the little horn?
(e) The ten kingdoms that came out of the
Roman Empire were political kingdoms. But
the Papacy combined religious and political
authority.
(f) The leader of the Papacy is a man whose
title is the Pope.
66. 13. Who, or what power is represented by
the little horn?
(g) The Papacy claims to have the authority
to change divine law. “The Pope is of so
great authority and power, that he is able to
modify, declare, or interpret even divine
Laws.” (emphasis supplied)
(Source: Lucius Ferraris, Prompta
Bibliotheca “Papa,” article 2).
67. 3. Who, or what power is represented by
e little horn?
(h) The saints would be persecuted for time,
times, and the dividing of times. In a parallel
prophecy, Revelation 12:6 and 13:5 shows this
period to be 42 months, or 1260 days, or
literal years (a prophetic day is a literal year;
see Ezekiel 4:6). From 538 AD, when the last
of the three horns were “plucked up,” to
1798 AD, when the Pope was arrested and
exiled by French general Berthier, the Papacy
persecuted and killed thousands of Christians
who would not submit to its authority.
73. Prophetic years = 360 days
3 ½ years = 1260 days (or literal years)
3 ½ years
Time, Times, and half a time
3 ½ prophetic years
74.
75.
76. 13. Who, or what power is represented by
he little horn?
)Pompous, or blasphemous words would be:
1) Man claiming to forgive sins; see Mark 2:7
2) Man taking the place of God; see John 10:33.
he Papacy does both: “The priest holds the place of
he Saviour himself, when, by saying ‘Ego te absolvo,’
e absolves from sin.” (Duties and Dignities of the
riest, by Liguori, pg. 27) “All names which in
cripture are applied to Christ, by virtue of which it is
stablished that he is over the church, all the same
ames are applied to the Pope.” (On the Authority of
ouncils, book 2, chapter 17, 1619 edition)
We hold upon this earth the place of God Almighty.”
The Great Encyclical Letters of Leo XIII, page 304)
77. 14. What law and time did the little horn
attempt to change?
God’s Ten Commandment Law
78. a. God’s Ten Commandment law.
The Roman church “modified” the law by
eliminating the second commandment and
splitting the tenth commandment in order to
still have ten. The fourth commandment is
moved up to third, and the reference to
Sabbath being the seventh day is removed.
(See “the Convert’s Catechism of Catholic
Doctrine,” Pg. 37, 38; 1946 edition)
110. On the first day of the week let each one of
you lay something aside, storing up as he
may prosper, that there be no collections
when I come.
1 Corinthians 16:2
111. Now on the first day of the week, when the
disciples came together to break bread,
Paul, ready to depart the next day, spoke to
them and continued his message to midnight.
Acts 20:7
So continuing daily with one accord in the
temple, and breaking bread from house to
house, they ate their food with gladness and
simplicity of heart.
Acts 2:46

The Sabbath was established hundreds of years before the Jews. It was made for all mankind. It was first given and observed in the Garden of Eden.
The Gentiles observed it throughout the New Testament and beyond.
It will be observed in the New Earth. As God’s chosen people, the Jews were responsible for preserving God’s truth and presenting it to the world.
Sabbath is a gift from God to man. But just as some people today return or exchange gifts for something else they like more, some Christians have exchanged the Sabbath God gave them for one of their own choosing.

Those who have accepted Jesus as their Savior are adopted into His family: they become “Abraham’s seed.” They are then eligible to receive the benefits of being in the family, but would also be required to abide by the rules of the family.
Under the new covenant, God did not make new laws. He simply said that He would “write them on their hearts.” (click to dissolve in the verse) “For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.” Hebrews 8:10 God’s law would no longer be obeyed externally, but would become an integral part of the life of His children.

In these 4 beasts we see described the four world kingdoms represented in Nebuchadnezzar’s image.
Babylon, the head of gold, is represented by the lion.
Medo-Persia, the arms and chest of silver, is represented by the bear.
Greece, the belly and thighs of bronze, is represented by the leopard.
Rome, the legs of iron, is represented by the fearful, ten-horned beast.
The ten toes of the image and the ten horns of the fourth beast are a parallel.
They represent the ten tribes that came out of the Roman Empire.

How much actual time in days or years is represented by “time, times, and half a time? It equals 3 ½ years. Time is equivalent to one year, times is 2 years, and half a time would be ½ year, totaling 3 ½ years. It is the same time period as 42 months, or 1260 days, or literal years. A Bible month is 30 days, and a year is 360 days.
The Papacy began in 538 AD.
It lost power in 1798 when General Berthier took the pope captive, a time period of exactly 1260 years

The law, including the Sabbath, was not changed, or done away with, but will remain in God’s law “until heaven and earth pass away.” (See 2 Peter 3:10).
While the sacrificial and ceremonial laws found their fulfillment in the cross of Calvary,
the Sabbath “remains a rest for the people of God.”
The Sabbath will continue even in the New Earth.
What are the reasons often given for worshiping on Sunday?

I then tell the people I am going to take one of these ladies home with me tonight. Each one is a nice lady, so does it matter which one I take home, as long as I only take one? Of course it matters. One of these ladies is special to me – I have a relationship with her that I do not have with any of the others.
So it is with God’s Sabbath. It is a special day created for us to be with God. Does it really matter which day I keep, as long as I keep one? It matters to God, and it should matter to us as well.
God made one day special. He made one day holy, different from the rest.
He invites us to meet Him on His special day each week. (Invite the people to attend church with you on the next Sabbath. Use a Sabbath appeal card)
