Diet and Nutrition Essay
A person eats to gain energy from food that allows our body to perform various functions that
allows us to survive. The food that people take in will go through their digestive system that then
allows them to harness the energy within food. That energy that is taken from the food is then
sent, via the bloodstream, to all of the living cells. These cells then use this energy to perform
their daily functions and tasks. We also eat food to help rebuild and repair damaged and old cells.
Diets are particular foods that are eaten by a particular person or group. There are many types of
diets that can either differ in small ways or big ways. Different diets can also be healthy or

The easiest way to lower a persons' risk of lifestyle disease is to change their diet to a more
healthful one, and staying out of harmful environments. So, lifestyle diseases are diseases that
you can't always control but a person can greatly lower his risk of obtaining them. There are six
different food groups and they are: Fruit, Grain, Lean Meat and Poultry, Milk and Dairy, and
Vegetables. You should eat mostly grains, vegetables, and fruits. From most to least you should
eat: Grain, Vegetables, Fruit, Lean Meat and Poultry, Milk and Dairy, and then lastly fats, oils,
and sweets. You should in small amounts and only sometimes eat fats, oils, and sweets. All of
these different food groups contribute to your daily diet. The Daily intake guidelines are the
amounts and percentages of fats, proteins, carbs, etc. that a person should intake every day for
healthy eating. These guidelines are based on your weight; for example a person who weighs
100 lbs. would need less carbs than a person who weighs 200 lbs. It is also based on your level of
physical activity, height, and age. The daily intake (DI) you see on various foods is based on an
average adult's daily requirement of 8700kJ. The amount of kJ a person needs varies from person
to person because we are all different and require different amounts of nutrients. Minerals are a class
of a class of nutrients that are inorganic compounds and that are necessary for certain body

Healthy Eating Essay
How does healthy eating affect your life? Many people really pay attention to the food they put in
their bodies, until we get sick and need medical attention. I know that many of us love to eat fast
food, but it catches up with us in the long run. While eating healthy would stop you from getting
sick, and lower the cost of health care, healthy eating can enrich your body and prevent you from
getting high doctor bills. How can I eat healthier? Healthy eating means picking all natural foods
from the basic food groups; meats, dairy, fruits and vegetables, grains and stop eating too many
sweets and fats. The first step in eating healthy is to know the good fats from the bad fats. Fats are
another vital part to a healthy diet. Good fats...show more content...
Once you know what to eat, now you have to consume too much. One of the biggest problems
with eating healthy knows when you have had enough. Not knowing when to stop can result in
one developing an eating disorder. There are many types of eating disorders. The main two types
of eating disorders people get from excessive eating is obesity and anorexia. Obesity is a disease of
excess fat tissue in the body, or when someone eats too much. Anorexia is when someone who has a
low self–esteem and often a tremendous need to control their surroundings and emotions by
consuming as little food as possible. Someone who is overweight will eat because they are not
happy with the way they look. Someone who suffers from anorexia starves themselves because
they are unhappy with the way they look. People with these certain eating disorders should come
together to help each other get through these hard times. One can get tired thinking about all of the
sicknesses one could get from eating unhealthy. High medical bills can leave one bankrupt. The
problem that comes with unhealthy eating also comes with high medical cost. Doctors who
specialize in illnesses dealing with eating disorders and heart diseases tend to have high premium
cost. You have to put at least six hundred dollars or more just for the visit. Medical illness can be a
financial nightmare leading to bankruptcy. (Jeanie Lerche Davis, Feb. 2, 2005,). The way our

Benefits of Healthy Eating
Healthy eating is the right choice for everyone's body, how many of the people know are eating
healthy these days? There are many benefits to the body when people eat healthy. The three benefits
that point out are keeping a healthy weight, preventing health problems and acquiring more energy.
Even though there are people who think there are no health risks when they avoid eating healthy,
eating healthy helps them have a healthier body, and prevent diseases and other risks to the body.
Some reasons people may avoid healthy eating are that they are not financially able to buy the
necessary items to have a healthy diet or that they just don't know how to maintain a healthful diet.

You have only to walk down the aisle at your local supermarket to discover that there has been a
vitamin revolution. Every possible vitamin and mineral needed by the body is available in

from alcohol are the best way to go. Having a healthy diet is not as far fetched as people may
think all they need to do is develop a healthy eating habit and stick to it. If society doesn't start
thinking about the health risks that follow by not eating healthy and drinking alcohol in the future
can be deadly because some of the major organs in the body can stop working from not being
properly taken care of, and alcohol can play a major part in this also.

Maintaining a Healthy Body Essay example
Maintaining a Healthy Body When people eat the things that they want to at the time, it's an
almost guaranteed bet that they don't know what's nutrients are inside of the food, or what's good
for their body. If they did, they wouldn't put half of what they eat in it. What you put in and out of
your body decides how healthy your body can or will become. Having good eating and drinking
habits will most likely force your body to be in good health. To have a healthy body, junk food needs
to be avoided. If too much of the wrong foods can cause your body to deteriorate slowly. There are
several ways to maintain a healthy body. One of these ways to eating properly is to follow the

Too much alcohol can only be harmful to your body. This list isn't the only way to maintaining a
healthy body. There are six different food groups that can help you maintain a healthy diet and
body. The groups are: meat, bread and cereal, fruits, dairy, vegetables, and fats/oils. These groups
provide the nutrients that a body needs. The meat group includes other foods beside the basic beef.
There are foods like poultry, fish, dry beans, eggs, and nuts. The bread/cereal group also includes
pasta and rice. Fruits are pretty self–explanatory right along with vegetables. The dairy products are
the foods made with milk like yogurt and cheese. One group that you need but can't have a lot of is
the fats. Even though it has fat in it, your body can't live on those nutrients alone. All of the foods
go hand in hand, if used properly. That means you have to maintain a good eating balance. Balancing
your diet is one of the most important way to staying healthy. Eating too much of one thing, whether
healthy or not is not keeping your diet balanced. The correct amount of each food group will help
you maintain a balanced diet. When consuming products from the dairy category, only 2–3 servings
are sufficient. While eating from the meat group, you should only take in 2–3 servings also.
Sometimes a second helping is okay. In the vegetable group, you should eat 3–5 servings. In the fruit
group, you should have 2–4 servings (of different fruit). The most you

Importance Of Healthy Lifestyle Essay
Health is very important. It's how you treat yourself and how you define it. It's very important to
maintain a healthy lifestyle. One should make time for everything within their busy lifestyle for
things like sleep, exercise and eat healthy. I believe that those are necessary factors for an
everyday lifestyle. I know that for myself I would want to prevent diseases in any possible way that I
can. In order for myself to accomplish this, I try to take care of myself as much as I can. To feel
emotionally and physically healthy I always fit in the time and effort to add those factors to my
everyday life.
What does it mean to be emotionally and physically healthy? Well, in my definition it means that I
shouldn't let myself down and I should have positive thoughts about everything that makes me
happy. Physically healthy I think for myself should be that I take the time to do some sort of
physical activity and eating well most of the time so I can feel good about myself.
Being happy is also a major factor. One thing that I have learned over time is that being fit is not
the only way that you can feel fresh. When I feel that I am healthy, I feel like I have all the energy
in the world. Feeling healthy just makes me feel more alive and that way I'm more productive. I
don't slack around and do nothing. I'm able to stay focused on school, go to the gym, and also go
to work. It makes it easier for me to do all these things rather than complain about all of the

Persuasive Essay On A Healthy Diet
A healthy diet helps maintain or improve overall health. A healthy diet provides the body with the
necessary nutrients: liquid, a sufficient amount of essential amino acids from the protein [1]
Essential fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, fiber and enough calories. The requirements
for a healthy diet can be met from a variety of botanical and animal foods, even though those
following a vegan diet need non–animal sources of vitamin B12 [2]. A healthy diet supports energy
needs and provides nutrients to the human body without exposure to toxicity or heat consumed in
the body in excess of the body's required weight. A healthy diet, in addition to exercise, is
considered as an important factor in reducing health risks such as obesity, heart disease, type 2
diabetes, hypertension and cancer [3]. According to WHO statistics, one of the major causes of
death in the modern world is cardiovascular disease, particularly in advanced economies. Experts
believe that the main reason for these diseases is an unhealthy diet. And this is just a group of
diseases. In fact, up to 90% of diseases are directly related to poor diet. It reduces human life by 2–3
times. This short life has become an ongoing struggle with various diseases (Kharofa, 2014).
Insisting on a healthy lifestyle with our own example has proven that people can live more than 80
years and stay healthy and active (Archer, 2011). One of the major components of a healthy lifestyle
is a proper and healthy diet.

But all of that is changing, people are realising that fats are crucial for a healthy body and brain.
Without the correct amount of fat, you will lack endurance, and you're actually at risk for gaining
weight. Now let's talk about proteins, if you don't get the sufficient amount of protein your body
will suffer drastically. If you deprive your body of proteins (amino acids are found in proteins)
then your body will take the amino acids needed from you skeletal muscle in order to supply the
heart with the nutrients. Not eating enough proteins will also result in muscle atrophy due to
your body ultimately feeding off your muscle fibers to produce the necessary amino acids. Lastly,
carbohydrates. Everyone knows about carbs, or they think they do anyway. Carbs are one of the
hardest things to limit in order to have a healthy diet, they're found in everything yummy. You like
cake? Yep, carbs. You like bread? Yep, carbs. You like candy? You guessed it, carbs. Now don't get

Eating too many bad carbs will literally leave you feeling sick and heavy. Good carbohydrates are
critical for body function for an athlete. Carbs are our energy source, without them you will literally

When it comes to picking a diet, there are 150 to choose from. So how do you know which ones to
choose? Well, pick one that is healthy and won't harm your body, one that works well and can make
you feel better about your self–boost your self–esteem. Some people start to go on a diet because
they think that all their problems in their lives are about their weight. Others believe that it's an area
of their life that they can't control, they go on a diet so they can focus on something that they can
control – their exercise and food intake. Some main diets that you might hear are being a vegetarian
and paleolithic. There are plenty of others, but there is a diagnosis that is beginning to come around,
which is being gluten–free. A vegetarian diet consists of only: vegetables, fruits, and dairy products

killing of animals and then eating them. "A theory that most people have is they can cook a healthy,

a vegetarian, you can lose the daily needs of your body, like the protein, but some grocery stores
have soy burgers and fake meat so that kind of diet can stay healthy. When purchasing these
items, it can be a bit overpriced. When looking for a source of protein, go towards eggs. They are
a good way to save money instead of buying pounds of meat. When looking for grains, beans, and
rice, being a vegetarian is the way to go (Vegetarian Diet). If you keep eating fruits, veggies, and
grains, they will make your body feel full of fewer calories. When considering weight loss, it is
likely to lose weight because of the fewer calories and the body mass isn't high enough. When it
comes to preparing the food, there will always be a tasteful recipe on the internet that will give
you energy for the day and can cover your snacking habits (Vegetarian Diet). Next is being a

Eating Healthy Can Be a Challenge
Are You Up to It?
Taking care of your health should be a priority for every individual – and it is critically important for
anyone who is struggling with obesity or disease. Without good health, life can be very difficult.
For those who are naturally healthy, it is easy to ignore healthy eating habits because they tend to
believe they are invincible. But, poor eating habits will catch up with you eventually. Now is the
time to pay attention and make any necessary changes.
As you search the Web for articles that discuss the best foods to eat to build and sustain a healthy
body, the answers may sound fairly simple – eat only foods that are good for your body. In fact, isn't
that a non brainer?
All the experts, doctors, dieticians, health coaches, and medical researchers tell us to eat raw fruits
and vegetables. That advice is accompanied by information on how to select meats that are low in
saturated fat and cholesterol; plus, the importance of eliminating all processed wheat products and
refined sugar products, and replacing them with 100% whole grain breads and pastas, and natural
sugars like honey and real maple syrup.
See – it sounds simple . . . right? So, why is it so difficult for most people to maintain a healthy diet?
Many, many people understand the importance of eating healthy, nutritious foods– and, yet, they
continue to eat foods that are known to be unhealthy. WHY do so many people struggle with this
problem?

Healthy Diet
A healthy diet is one that helps maintain or improve health. It is important for lowering many
chronic health risks, such as obesity, heart disease, diabetes, hypertension and cancer.[1] A healthy
diet involves consuming appropriate amounts of all essential nutrients and an adequate amount of

Persuasive Speech: Making healthy Nutritional decisions.
Specific Purpose: To persuade my classmates to make healthier nutritional choices.
Thesis Statement: Healthy eating is not something to worry about down the road; we need to act
now, while we are young to develop good habits for the future.
1.Introduction:
a.Attention Getter: I visited Holly Drougas–our very own licensed dietician here at Virginia Western.
I asked her, "What is the first thing that comes to mind when I say the word 'Nutrition'?" She shocked
me by saying, "Confusion". With so much conflicting and confusing information from both the
scientific community and the lay press, many people simply don't know what to eat to be healthy or

Relevance: When it comes down to it, I'm not going to shove kale down your throat if you tell me
that you just hate kale, even though it appears to be another one of the big health crazes. I'm just
trying to show you all that eating healthy doesn't have to be a miserable experience, and despite our
limitations as college students, we can overcome the hurdles of Availability, Time, and Money, to
maintain a healthy diet.
e.Preview: So today, we're going to talk about the wonderful world of Nutrition, and I'm going to try

2.Problem Step:
a.Internal Preview: So let's start with some reasons as to why so many people are confused about
what to eat: misinformation and marketing.
b.Since 1992 the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has provided the nutritional food

multiple things needed throughout your life. These things include growing physically, mentally, and

This is what causes us to be sore. The muscles then build back up, becoming stronger than before.
(lifehacker.com) People still need to be careful when they exercise because they can hurt themselves
or overexert themselves while doing it. Being a little sore for a 24–48 hour period is normal but
when being sore is a severe pain, it was probably caused by overexertion. (lifehacker.com)
For people who want to lose weight when they exercise they need to take a completely different
approach. Instead of doing high–intensity workout for short periods of time, they need to do the
exact opposite. Brian Parr from the Department of Exercise and Sports Science at the University
of South Carolina says: "When you exercise for a longer duration, you're going to use the slow
twitch fibers that are really good at burning fat. If you went and did a couple hundred meter sprints
for your workout, it only works the fast muscle fibers, and they use primarily carbohydrates and don't
burn that much fat at all.
For example, when you get on an elliptical or treadmill you can push the "fat burning" button, it
will be longer and lower intensity because that favors the muscles that are going to burn more fat.
So if you do a jog instead of a sprint, you're burning more fat." (lifehacker.com)
Even through all of this you need to have some variety because some exercises just burn the fat in

Benefits Of Eating Healthy Diet Essay
It is often hard for me to maintain a healthy diet. Although I have took several classes that outline
the benefits of eating healthy, I often find myself setting a healthy eating goal and relapsing the
next day. My goals first consisted of me getting a balanced diet for three months. This goal began
to fail after two days. I had visited family members during the thanksgiving holiday and ate
several unhealthy foods. I then set a small goal of consuming only healthy foods for a week. I
wrote down the foods I would eat each day, within that week, and their proportion size. This goal
last for three days, and failed due to financial issues. Foods that were easy to prepare became my
best friend. However, when I became pregnant, I began to gain excuses weight. My doctor
informed on the importance it was to eat a balanced diet. He also taught me the effects unhealthy
foods could have on the baby, as well as me while being pregnant. Eating healthy then became a
struggle, due to me having a loss of appetite. Now that I am not pregnant anymore, and have
gained my appetite back, it was not evident to me the different foods and calories I consume in a
day. Completing a dietary analysis has allowed me to gain insight on the foods I eat, my normal
calorie intake, and the amount of calories recommended. For 24 hours, I wrote down everything I

You Are What You Eat Essay
"You are what you eat." I sat and stared at the poster hanging on the back of the door at the
doctor's office. It was a picture of a man with his internal organs replaced by pictures of fish,
chicken, vegetables, and fruits instead of a heart, lungs, and intestines. It was a catchy poster, but
it didn't mean much to a twelve year old. However, as I have grown up and tried to be as healthy as
possible for athletic activities and sports, I have learned the importance of nutrition and a healthy diet.
A diet filled with nutritious foods not only increases energy, growth, and cell activity, more
importantly, new studies are proving a healthy diet is prevention for the most common killers in the
United States. What you eat can actually prevent disease, improve mental health, and increase

Heart disease and diabetes are currently the number one killer in America, followed by the
dreaded "C" word, cancer (Babcock). Despite advancements in the medical field and advancement
in testing and treatments, the death toll has risen to these deadly diseases. Doctors are finally

Governments also put pressure on businesses to promote healthful food options, consider limiting the
availability of junk food in state–run schools, and tax foods that are high in fat[citation needed].
Vending machines in particular have come under fire as being avenues of entry into schools for
junk food promoters. However, there is little in the way of regulation and it is difficult for most
people to properly analyze the real merits of a company referring to itself as "healthy." Recently, the
United Kingdom removed the rights for McDonald's to advertise its products, as the majority of the

This list isn't the only way to maintaining a healthy body. There are six different food groups that can help you maintain a healthy diet and body. The groups are: meat, bread and cereal, fruits, dairy, vegetables, and fats/oils. These groups provide the nutrients that a body needs. The meat group includes other foods beside the basic beef. There are foods like poultry, fish, dry beans, eggs, and nuts. The bread/cereal group also includes pasta and rice. Fruits are pretty self–explanatory right along with vegetables. The dairy products are the foods made with milk like yogurt and cheese. One group that you need but can't have a lot of is the fats. Even though it has fat in it, your body can't live on those nutrients alone. All of the foods go hand in hand, if used properly. That means you have to maintain a good eating balance. Balancing your diet is one of the most important way to staying healthy. Eating too much of one thing, whether healthy or not is not keeping your diet balanced. The correct amount of each food group will help you maintain a balanced diet. When consuming products from the dairy category, only 2–3 servings are sufficient. While eating from the meat group, you should only take in 2–3 servings also. Sometimes a second helping is okay. In the vegetable group, you should eat 3–5 servings. • 7. Importance Of Healthy Lifestyle Essay Health is very important. It's how you treat yourself and how you define it. It's very important to maintain a healthy lifestyle. One should make time for everything within their busy lifestyle for things like sleep, exercise and eat healthy. I believe that those are necessary factors for an everyday lifestyle. I know that for myself I would want to prevent diseases in any possible way that I can. In order for myself to accomplish this, I try to take care of myself as much as I can. To feel emotionally and physically healthy I always fit in the time and effort to add those factors to my everyday life. What does it mean to be emotionally and physically healthy? Well, in my definition it means that I shouldn't let myself down and I should have positive thoughts about everything that makes me happy. Physically healthy I think for myself should be that I take the time to do some sort of physical activity and eating well most of the time so I can feel good about myself. Being happy is also a major factor. One thing that I have learned over time is that being fit is not the only way that you can feel fresh. When I feel that I am healthy, I feel like I have all the energy in the world. Feeling healthy just makes me feel more alive and that way I'm more productive. I don't slack around and do nothing. A healthy diet provides the body with the necessary nutrients: liquid, a sufficient amount of essential amino acids from the protein [1] Essential fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, fiber and enough calories. The requirements for a healthy diet can be met from a variety of botanical and animal foods, even though those following a vegan diet need non–animal sources of vitamin B12 [2]. A healthy diet supports energy needs and provides nutrients to the human body without exposure to toxicity or heat consumed in the body in excess of the body's required weight. A healthy diet, in addition to exercise, is considered as an important factor in reducing health risks such as obesity, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, hypertension and cancer [3]. According to WHO statistics, one of the major causes of death in the modern world is cardiovascular disease, particularly in advanced economies. If you deprive your body of proteins (amino acids are found in proteins) then your body will take the amino acids needed from you skeletal muscle in order to supply the heart with the nutrients. • 10. Persuasive Essay On A Healthy Diet When it comes to picking a diet, there are 150 to choose from. So how do you know which ones to choose? Well, pick one that is healthy and won't harm your body, one that works well and can make you feel better about your self–boost your self–esteem. Some people start to go on a diet because they think that all their problems in their lives are about their weight. Others believe that it's an area of their life that they can't control, they go on a diet so they can focus on something that they can control – their exercise and food intake. Some main diets that you might hear are being a vegetarian and paleolithic. There are plenty of others, but there is a diagnosis that is beginning to come around, which is being gluten–free. A vegetarian diet consists of only: vegetables, fruits, and dairy products to a certain limit. When going on this diet, it excludes eating all meats. They don't believe in the killing of animals and then eating them. "A theory that most people have is they can cook a healthy, meat–free that supports weight loss and reduces the risk of heart disease"(Vegetarian Diet). Being a vegetarian, you can lose the daily needs of your body, like the protein, but some grocery stores have soy burgers and fake meat so that kind of diet can stay healthy. When purchasing these items, it can be a bit overpriced. When looking for a source of protein, go towards eggs. They are a good way to save money instead of buying pounds of meat. When looking for grains, beans, and rice, being a vegetarian is the way to go (Vegetarian Diet). If you keep eating fruits, veggies, and grains, they will make your body feel full of fewer calories. When considering weight loss, it is likely to lose weight because of the fewer calories and the body mass isn't high enough. When it comes to preparing the food, there will always be a tasteful recipe on the internet that will give you energy for the day and can cover your snacking habits (Vegetarian Diet). Next is being a paleolithic. The aim of a paleo diet is to return to a way of eating that's more like what early humans ate. MEAT! When following this diet, the main goal is to lose weight, and they can sometimes have trouble planning their meal plans. When shopping for the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Benefits Of A Healthy Diet Essay Today 's economy is in tough shape. As a result, many Malden residents have lost their income and their dental insurance. Soon, courtesy of Massachusetts lawmakers, MassHealth will only cover adults for dental cleaning, exams, x–rays and extractions. At the same time, physicians, insurance companies and the public understand that oral health is closely linked to physical health. It is more important to maintain oral health now than ever. Fortunately, there are many inexpensive techniques to keep teeth healthy and prevent expensive dental set backs. Start with a healthy diet. Soda is very acidic. So acidic that even diet soda will cause tooth decay. Keep soda and sweetened drinks to a minimum, not more than one or two glasses of soda in a week. Do not drink milk or eat snacks at night after brushing. Only eat sticky sweets close to meal times. Remember that processed fruit snacks including Fruit Roll–ups and Fruit by the Foot are not healthy snacks; fruit snacks are candy wearing a healthy looking package. Plaque is a layer of bacteria that forms on teeth within a few hours of cleaning. Plaque becomes calculus or tartar when left alone. Bacteria in plaque causes cavities and gum disease. Remove plaque at least twice a day by brushing and flossing to prevent cavities and gum disease and to save money. Brush teeth two or three times per day. Always use a soft brush. The muscles then build back up, becoming stronger than before. (lifehacker.com) People still need to be careful when they exercise because they can hurt themselves or overexert themselves while doing it. Being a little sore for a 24–48 hour period is normal but when being sore is a severe pain, it was probably caused by overexertion. (lifehacker.com) For people who want to lose weight when they exercise they need to take a completely different approach. Instead of doing high–intensity workout for short periods of time, they need to do the exact opposite. Brian Parr from the Department of Exercise and Sports Science at the University of South Carolina says: "When you exercise for a longer duration, you're going to use the slow twitch fibers that are really good at burning fat. If you went and did a couple hundred meter sprints for your workout, it only works the fast muscle fibers, and they use primarily carbohydrates and don't burn that much fat at all. For example, when you get on an elliptical or treadmill you can push the "fat burning" button, it will be longer and lower intensity because that favors the muscles that are going to burn more fat. So if you do a jog instead of a sprint, you're burning more fat." • 16. Benefits Of Eating Healthy Diet Essay It is often hard for me to maintain a healthy diet. Although I have took several classes that outline the benefits of eating healthy, I often find myself setting a healthy eating goal and relapsing the next day. My goals first consisted of me getting a balanced diet for three months. This goal began to fail after two days. I had visited family members during the thanksgiving holiday and ate several unhealthy foods. I then set a small goal of consuming only healthy foods for a week. I wrote down the foods I would eat each day, within that week, and their proportion size. This goal last for three days, and failed due to financial issues. Foods that were easy to prepare became my best friend. However, when I became pregnant, I began to gain excuses weight. My doctor informed on the importance it was to eat a balanced diet. He also taught me the effects unhealthy foods could have on the baby, as well as me while being pregnant. Eating healthy then became a struggle, due to me having a loss of appetite. Now that I am not pregnant anymore, and have gained my appetite back, it was not evident to me the different foods and calories I consume in a day. Completing a dietary analysis has allowed me to gain insight on the foods I eat, my normal calorie intake, and the amount of calories recommended. For 24 hours, I wrote down everything I consumed. This included meals, drinks, condiments, and snacks. I began my day by eating 1 pack of Quaker corn grits with cheese, two sausage links, a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. You Are What You Eat Essay "You are what you eat." I sat and stared at the poster hanging on the back of the door at the doctor's office. It was a picture of a man with his internal organs replaced by pictures of fish, chicken, vegetables, and fruits instead of a heart, lungs, and intestines. It was a catchy poster, but it didn't mean much to a twelve year old. However, as I have grown up and tried to be as healthy as possible for athletic activities and sports, I have learned the importance of nutrition and a healthy diet. A diet filled with nutritious foods not only increases energy, growth, and cell activity, more importantly, new studies are proving a healthy diet is prevention for the most common killers in the United States. What you eat can actually prevent disease, improve mental health, and increase energy and growth. Heart disease and diabetes are currently the number one killer in America, followed by the dreaded "C" word, cancer (Babcock). Despite advancements in the medical field and advancement in testing and treatments, the death toll has risen to these deadly diseases. Doctors are finally beginning to zero in on the old adage, "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" ("Articles") Many physicians are promoting the healthy diet of mostly lean protein, whole grains, vegetables and fruits. Processed meats and sugars are being blamed for the diabetic and heart disease epidemic our nation is facing. Simply eating two slices of processed deli meat a day along Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Healthy Diet A healthy diet is one that helps maintain or improve health. It is important for lowering many chronic health risks, such as obesity, heart disease, diabetes, hypertension and cancer.[1] A healthy diet involves consuming appropriate amounts of all essential nutrients and an adequate amount of water. Nutrients can be obtained from many different foods, so there are numerous diets that may be considered healthy. A healthy diet needs to have a balance of macronutrients (fats, proteins, and carbohydrates), calories to support energy needs, and micronutrients to meet the needs for human nutrition without inducing toxicity or excessive weight gain from consuming excessive amounts. | [edit] Dietary recommendations There are a number of diets...show more content... Governments also put pressure on businesses to promote healthful food options, consider limiting the availability of junk food in state–run schools, and tax foods that are high in fat[citation needed]. Vending machines in particular have come under fire as being avenues of entry into schools for junk food promoters. However, there is little in the way of regulation and it is difficult for most people to properly analyze the real merits of a company referring to itself as "healthy." Recently, the United Kingdom removed the rights for McDonald's to advertise its products, as the majority of the foods that were seen have low nutrient values and high fat counts were aimed at children under the guise of the "Happy Meal"[citation needed]. The British Heart Foundation released its own government–funded advertisements, labeled "Food4Thought", which were targeted at children and adults displaying the gory nature of how fast food is generally constituted. [edit] Cultural and psychological factors From a psychological and cultural perspective, a healthier diet may be difficult to achieve for people with poor eating habits.[16] This may be due to tastes acquired in early adolescence and preferences for sugary and fatty foods. It may be easier for such a person to transition to a healthy diet if treats such as chocolate are allowed; sweets may act as mood stabilizers, which could help reinforce correct nutrient intake.[citation needed] It is known that the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
